I haven’t been able to find specifics, but I think it involves using electric saws to carve blocks of tens of thousands of interconnected sheets of paper.

There are actually several ways to tie shoes. Poor Terry Moore simply seems to have learned the worst method in his youth. He shows how to move from the looped granny knot to a looped square knot, which is a vast improvement. Next, one could make two twist knots in the first step and make it a bowed surgeon's knot--even better. Finally, one can make a twist knot of the bows themselves, which parents of toddlers have been using for a long time. There are other variations in Asia that are also quite effective.
