An detailed examination of the available evidence reveals that Mary Poppins could sit on a cloud (ie: was lighter than air) whereas her umbrella would sink through. Ergo the umbrella was was not an aid to flying, and we need lighter clowns and a tighter rope.

I am glad that the 'do not try this at home' warning was prominent at the beginning. It would have been annoying to fire up both balloons for nothing.
