professors of Afro-American Studies... are supposedly experiencing “a version of post-traumatic stress syndrome” and “a mental health crisis as serious as those following campus shootings or natural disasters.”

I don't think it's a good idea to let escaped mental patients teach kids.

Liz

Are there *any* grown-ups left on campus?

ACTOldFart

Desiring to watch the best sporting events, you see, is merely a “societal (and cultural) bias” against women.

Er, isn't that a sort of admission that women are second-rate at some things?

Well, I shouldn’t think much of the content will shock regulars here, but apparently such things are deemed scandalous by faculty and administrators at Westmont College, and likely to induce trauma, and so must be formally disavowed. Citing crime and policing statistics to support an argument is now, apparently, inflammatory, practically an act of hate. And it’s interesting to note that there’s no attempt by administrators even to hide their malicious pettiness, as when refusing to advertise the venue or forbidding students from filming a speaker who was more than happy to be filmed. It’s like peeking through the looking glass into a leftist Wonderland.

Be black and threaten racial violence against whites, defacing/destroying public and private property.?

"He's just misunderstood!"

Be white and be the victim of a vague and unsubstantiated rape accusation months after the fact?

I don’t think Ben Shapiro would do much better over here:

"54% of students asked thought the ['no platform'] policy should be enforced against people who could be found intimidating."

"Could be".

Re Mr Shapiro and the derangement his mere presence induces among left-leaning students, see also the second item here and of course this ripe slice of psychodrama.

Most of Mr. McDonald's graffiti seems to be the kind of thing one would normally read on a placard. Perhaps after his debt to society is paid he should be encouraged to stand on corners with the rest of the nuts.

"Mr. McDonald's graffiti seems to be the kind of thing one would normally read on a placard."

Change only a few words and it would be the sort of placard carried by Neo Nazis and Klan members.

Isn't that redundant?

Isn’t that redundant?

Pretty much.

Of course it never gets mistaken for the reality of current events . . .

A depressing news aggregation which seems to have a common theme/causation. That being that the degenerated politics we see daily are the result of degenerated intellect in the general academic system.

It is really stupid to think you can get justice with injustice, peace with violence, equality with bigotry and political converts with intimidation.

To me it appears there is a whole generation of presumptious sheltered entitled diaper-wetting zombies who are about to self destruct on the reality of life outside their privileged safe space and be ground up in the ensuing social/civil upheaval they agitated for.

dicentra

It is really stupid to think you can get justice with injustice, peace with violence, equality with bigotry and political converts with intimidation.

And it's equally foolish to think that these people are actually trying to achieve justice, peace, equality, and political converts.

They are not.

With enough chaos in the influential institutions, society itself begins to shake apart, and the ensuing chaos makes us all ripe for dictatorship.

The French Revolution just keeps happening over and over and over — the corrupt ruling class runs society into a ditch, then comes the Terror, then Napoleon.

Or it's the Romanovs => Bolsheviks => Soviets

Seems unlikely.

It presumes that the rich -- and let's face it, the SJWs causing the trouble didn't grow up poor -- don't get well educated. We can argue about whether the poor are as well educated as they used to be, but the rich don't have to struggle through a local badly run state school.

When I was a kid these people were plentiful. They were mostly quite strong Marxists back then though, arguing that the state forcibly sharing resources was the only way forward (and that the Iron Curtain was poor implementation, not a an inevitable result). In the generation before mine they were the hippies, touting communal living and free love. In between they congregated at Greenham Common and went on "gap years" to poor places.

They will always be around, and must be fought by anyone who cares for society. The only difference now is that the SJWs are, on the face of it, much less radical -- they are not arguing for instant changes to either the social or economic system. The stealth technique they are adopting now is far harder to fight against.

But people with loony social ideas are not new.

R. Sherman

Worth rereading in light of the various tidbits on offer today. A longish excerpt for which I apologize:

In that promising land the spirit of I’m as good as you has already begun something more than a generally social influence. It begins to work itself into their educational system. How far its operations there have gone at the present moment, I should not like to say with certainty. Nor does it matter. Once you have grasped the tendency, you can easily predict its future developments; especially as we ourselves will play our part in the developing. The basic principle of the new education is to be that dunces and idlers must not be made to feel inferior to intelligent and industrious pupils. That would be “undemocratic.” These differences between pupils – for they are obviously and nakedly individual differences – must be disguised. This can be done at various levels. At universities, examinations must be framed so that nearly all the students get good marks. Entrance examinations must be framed so that all, or nearly all, citizens can go to universities, whether they have any power (or wish) to profit by higher education or not. At schools, the children who are too stupid or lazy to learn languages and mathematics and elementary science can be set to doing things that children used to do in their spare time. Let, them, for example, make mud pies and call it modelling. But all the time there must be no faintest hint that they are inferior to the children who are at work. Whatever nonsense they are engaged in must have – I believe the English already use the phrase – “parity of esteem.” An even more drastic scheme is not possible. Children who are fit to proceed to a higher class may be artificially kept back, because the others would get a trauma — Beelzebub, what a useful word! – by being left behind. The bright pupil thus remains democratically fettered to his own age group throughout his school career, and a boy who would be capable of tackling Aeschylus or Dante sits listening to his coeval’s attempts to spell out A CAT SAT ON A MAT.

David

In case you thought things weren’t getting silly enough at Wisconsin’s Afro-American clown school:

Another protester then proceeded to read off the list of demands, which included the complete dismissal of the investigation into McDonald’s involvement in the 11 instances of vandalism on campus, saying “his human rights were violated.”

What with him being so innocent and all.

Students also demanded that McDonald’s “items” be returned to him immediately, seemingly asking that the materials McDonald allegedly used to spray paint his campus be returned by the police department.

Hey, these kids are quality material.

John D

Students also demanded that McDonald’s “items” be returned to him immediately,

He was holding those spray cans for a friend.

David

He was holding those spray cans for a friend.

It’s comical, yes, but also quite sad. I mean, if you wanted to lend credence to unflattering racial assumptions, visiting the nearest Afro-American Studies Department would probably do that quite nicely. And being so drunk on identitarian leftism, and so hopelessly mediocre, I don’t think the lecturers and students grasp that.

Myrddin

It’s quite a lot of morally-inverted tools.

Expect further outrage and unrest at UW-M.

Pretty sure a number of white folks are standing in front of persons-of-colour in the protest mob. Check your privilege, honky!

Regarding the female sports issue.

I wonder if the social justice warriors have considered the consequences of the current 'bathroom war'?

Their position hinges on the principle that identity is self-declared. Anyone who declares himself to be a woman – regardless of biology – must, by law, now be allowed access any facilities.

There is a logical consequence to this for sporting events. I recently found out that the US women's Olympic hockey team prepare for the Olympics by practising against high school boys team. As that is the physical performance level they are at. Same thing for athletics. The women's world hundred metre record is about the same (actually, after checking it slower) than the high school boys record.

Any enterprising sports man should now self identify as female. There will be a lovely grace period where the politically correct Warriors find it impossible to deny them entry to the high-paying female sports world. The current female prize-money at Wimbledon is £2.15 million. But any halfway decent mail (not even low ranking) tennis player could beat Serena Williams.

It would be fun to see them tie themselves in logical knots trying to prevent it happening.

That's happening now in MMA: there is a transgender fighter called Fallon Fox who entered the women's competition and is beating the shit out of her opponents quite literally:

Critics are scrutinizing mixed martial arts (MMA) competitor Fallon Fox, after the transgender fighter gave her opponent a concussion and broke her eye socket.

Fox defeated her opponent, Tamikka Brents, by TKO at 2:17 of the first round of their match. Brent’s eye injury resulted in a damaged orbital bone that required seven staples.

Whoops!

In the US at least, Dicentra is correct as there is a very large difference between going to school, and being educated.

In most high schools, and nigh all colleges/universities, the core courses that have traditionally defined "educated" have been either abandoned, or adulterated with revisionist history, pomo English, Commie Core math, &c. Further, it is not just badly run state schools, but private schools have been infected. As an example of the latter, the one I went to, used to require Latin (three years minimum), one other foreign language, math through Calculus I, ancient history, American history, world history, biology, chemistry, physics, English (every year) and a couple of electives.

As they send out mailers begging for money, for reasons not readily apparent, they brag that is largely out the window and they have gone hard over for the fuzzy studies after middle school.

College was similar, there were core courses that were required of every major - physics students had to take a language, English, history, and so on. English majors had to take a minimum of algebra, a hard science, history, and so on.

Now if one shows up having come from my former middle/high school, and enrolls at my former college with a major in Useless Studies, zer or xim will never have to be exposed to any courses other than their Useless Studies and supporting electives. Grad school only magnifies their isolation from reality.

That is schooled, but not educated - granted, one could argue that a grad student in physics probably doesn't know a Botticelli from boccie ball, but I have run into these Useless Studies clowns who are so plug ignorant that they truly think the US started WWII, and that, I think, is far more dangerous.

That's happening now in MMA: . . .

Yes, there are those whose quite honest and genuine reaction starting from some age is Yes, this is my body, but has the Wrong parts!!!!!

. . . . and then there are those who are utterly and opportunistically riding the situational and cultural coattails, and sorting those out will be an interesting, ah, discussion . . .

Dunno of the cited fighter, I rather expect that will also be part of the sorting out . . . .

'Education' is pretty much a dead letter. At best what occurs now is more accurately, and generously, described as 'schooling' ( in the sense of schooling a horse in dressage). I've come to prefer the term ''processing', as in cheese food product.

Just remember one key thing: there are no "men's" sports leagues. There are women's sports leagues, and mixed sex sports leagues. There are just no women good enough to play in the mixed leagues; with one very very notable exception: Danica Patrick.

This just in: We should no longer speak of young criminals but rather of "justice-involved youth":

And here I thought "justice-involved" meant "participating in a summer internship program at the local police department or district attorneys office". Feh.

I was wanting to point to this also. I was a fair javelin thrower as a young bloke. Didn't take it up until I was fourteen but as a sixteen year old could throw the womens' implement further than any woman has to this day. No chemical aids either as was the case with that womens' 100m world record. Good fifteen to sixteen year old male athletes regularly surpass womens' world records.
