Somewhat related.

I feel sorry for that one, in the abstract.

So he/she makes his/her gender as confusing as possible then gets angry when someone guesses wrong?

David

So he/she makes his/her gender as confusing as possible then gets angry when someone guesses wrong?

Miss Dainty Herself™ has certainly fashioned a look that, from a distance, would make assuming gender a dicey endeavour and far from a sure thing. But she and the broader “social justice” contingent don’t seem overly concerned with reciprocity. Hence the convenient if unobvious distinction between Miss Dainty’s property rights, which are unassailable, and those of of everyone else, which, again conveniently, are not.

Patrick Brown

All she really needs is studs in her forehead and she'd be Vyvyan from the Young Ones.

R. Sherman

So, is it a guy pretending to be a woman, who's affecting a butch lesbian? I'm so confused. And that's before we get to his/her/its thoughts on private property.

I thought this was going to be about Republicans having a barbecue next to the Yale 'hunger strike':

"gender as confusing as possible then gets angry"

It's a feature, not a bug.

aelfheld

What a sad & disturbed creature.

when said lady discusses her busy afternoon of social engagements.

"I have friends who are smoking weed somewhere and I gotta find them."

David

It’s a feature, not a bug.

In terms of everyday practicality, it does seem a little perverse to cultivate a kind of surly, unwashed butchness and to then complain vehemently when that appearance is taken at face value.

Stan

The proper response to her would have been "Yes Sir!"

PiperPaul

OT: Canadian NFB clip from 1960-ish saying there are too many people at universities who don't belong there and it's Going To Cause Problems.

neal

Is Cheryl the exotic sidekick that is secretly the brains of the outfit?

Dragonladies, I swear.

WTP

Yeah, that Candian NFB clip is creepy in more ways and coming from more creepy directions than I can count.

TheTooner

"I have friends who are smoking weed somewhere and I gotta find them."

I am unconvinced by her claim that she has friends. Though if they do exist, I am sure they must be on some kind of drugs.

Poor Cheryl.

"I'm not a man, I'm a woman"

Not buying it.

BTW this August hubby & I are moving my stepson from Vancouver, WA to Berkeley for his first year of law school at Boalt Hall.

Ought to be interesting.

WTP

This. Soooo much this.

The lie we were told as kids was this: The end of American liberty would come at the hands of the political right.

Conservatives would take away our right to speak our minds, and use the power of government to silence dissent. The right would intimidate our teachers and professors, and coerce the young.

And then, with the universities in thrall, with control of the apparatus of the state (and the education bureaucracy), the right would have dominion over a once-free people.

Some of us were taught this in school. Others, who couldn’t be bothered to read books, were fed a cartoon version of the diabolical conservative in endless movies and TV shows. The most entertaining of these were science fiction, sometimes with vague references to men in brown shirts and black boots goose-stepping in some future time.

Women would become handmaids, subjugated and turned into breeders. And men would be broken as well. The more lurid fantasies offered armies of Luddites in hooded robes, hunting down subversives for the greater good.

But the lie is obvious now, isn’t it?

Because it is not conservatives who coerced today’s young people or made them afraid of ideas that challenge them. Conservatives did not shame people into silence, or send thugs out on college campuses to beat down those who wanted to speak.

The left did all that.

It’s there in front of you, the thuggish mobs of the left killing free speech at American universities. The thugs call themselves antifas, for anti-fascists.

They beat people up and break things and set fires and intimidate. These are not anti-fascists. These are fascists. This is what fascists do.

Some liberals also have seen their careers ruined by mob rule. Those two professors at Yale, a husband and wife, come to mind. She told Yale students not to worry if some other student wore a sombrero as a Halloween costume, that there were more important things to worry about than political correctness and a student wearing a sombrero.

But a Yale student, a woman, a minority, screamed in response, weeping in hideous self-indulgent theatrics captured on video. And all of this caught fire on the internet and sparked the virtual mob on social media. The professors, the husband and wife, with decent records and obvious care for the intellectual development of their students, were shamed out of Yale.

And all educators across the country took note.

"Women would become handmaids"

Coincidentally, a new TV series with a similar theme debuted tonight in North America, just in time for International Workers' Day!

There's some great quotables at https://www.city-journal.org/html/french-coming-apart-15125.html

I could have sworn I'd seen the link posted here, but I can't seem to find it in the past few stories.

"Never have conditions been more favorable for deluding a class of fortunate people into thinking that they owe their privilege to being nicer, or smarter, or more honest, than everyone else. Why would they think otherwise? They never meet anyone who disagrees with them."

and

"In France, political correctness is more than a ridiculous set of opinions; it’s also—and primarily—a tool of government coercion. Not only does it tilt any political discussion in favor of one set of arguments; it also gives the ruling class a doubt-expelling myth that provides a constant boost to morale and esprit de corps, much as class systems did in the days before democracy. People tend to snicker when the question of political correctness is raised: its practitioners because no one wants to be thought politically correct; and its targets because no one wants to admit to being coerced. But it determines the current polarity in French politics. Where you stand depends largely on whether you believe that antiracism is a sincere response to a genuine upsurge of public hatred or an opportunistic posture for elites seeking to justify their rule."

Daniel Ream

Coincidentally, a new TV series with a similar theme debuted tonight in North America, just in time for International Workers' Day!

Based on the book by Margaret Atwood, the crazy cat lady of CanLit.

If literary pundits had any intellectual honesty, they'd acknowledge that Atwood's Christofascist future is already here, it's just Islamofascist.

sk60

Best line: "Did you buy it with the swastika and then put the X through it?"

Ray

Soooo it's a bloke pretending to be a dyke? Isn't that what Eddie Izzard does?

There are some amusing comments on Handmaid over at Arse Technica. People point out that ISIS are doing this right now, and they're not noted for personal liberty and property rights and then this happens: "Given that Hitler was rightist..." Time for another cleansing flood, Lord.

David

It’s a feature, not a bug.

I wonder if it ever occurs to Miss Dainty Herself™ that such behaviour doesn’t exactly reflect well on the cause of transgender acceptance. I should imagine there are some transgender people rolling their eyes in dismay.

Tim Newman

Joking aside, he/she is seriously distressed. I'm not the first to point out that a lot of these people are genuinely mentally ill, and instead of being given help are being used for political ends. I mean this in all seriousness.

Stephen

I'm on Newman's side. That was clearly a man who had no idea what to do with himself; who was using the current confusion of sexual identities as a refuge for his real problems. And, in fact, I use the expression "real problems" knowing it is a euphemism for all sorts of oddities. Maybe he is a narcissist; maybe he is just an exhibitionist of the modern order. Maybe he just wanted attention that day, and is mostly just odd.

--Stephen

David

and instead of being given help are being used for political ends.

There does seem to be an element of role-play, of acting out an expected part, badly and with evident discomfort. If Miss Dainty Herself™ is in fact transgender, I don’t think the role of intolerant leftwing activist is an obvious path to happiness.

WTP

Been waiting for someone else to point this out but I guess I'll have to say so myself.

Why do these college republicans just take this? I mean, yes I know why, because they're scared of the law. I personally am not a violent guy but if in my youth some clown, flying virtually solo none the less, had walked up to me and my friends and so purposely, in-your-face manner, damaged our personal property in this manner, there would at the very least been an in-your-face response. May not have been physically violent, may have waited for the aggressor to throw the first punch, shove, what have you. But there would be some show of strength. What pussies young republicans have become.

Which goes to another point quite tangentially, I can totally understand sending STEM oriented young men and women off to college even though I increasingly believe even that is a waste of time and money outside of the medical field. But if I had a daughter who wasn't completely interested in a STEM field, there is no way I would want here hanging around the sort of nut jobs that are at universities. A son as well, but less so and for some other reasons. In spite of PC and all that we still, even the leftists who deny doing so, are far more protective of our young women folk than our boys.

SumDumGuy
Why do these college republicans just take this? I mean, yes I know why, because they're scared of the law.

They don't fear the law, they are using non-violent resistance and making the leftist nuts look terrible as a result. If they were to actually tear that poor confused child a new one they would instantly become the aggressors and would lose any sympathy to be gained from moderates.

Taking one on the chin and smiling is how we win.

WTP

Taking one on the chin and smiling is how we win.

Bull. It's how you lose and ultimately how you get Donald Trump. Then you win. Maybe. See hiw you've bought in to the narrative? I explicitly stated there was no immediate need for physical violence but a much more serious confrontation was definitely warranted. This...entity broke the rules first and paid zero price for doing so. This is the game they play. We let them make the rules and then they violate even their own rules by redifining the meaning of the words that make up the rules. Which of course means there are no rules. You will never win in such a situation except by the rules of nature. Even an animal has a right to defend itself and its territory.

PiperPaul

"instead of being given help are being used for political ends"

Empowered by the collective, weaponized by the manipulators and amplified by the media.

PiperPaul

"if I had a daughter"

WTP, the New Leftist Stylebook for DoublePlusGoodThink Writing now obliges that words such as 'son' or 'daughter' now be safe-space embraced in quotes, because, well, we can never really be sure, you know.

R. Sherman

I explicitly stated there was no immediate need for physical violence but a much more serious confrontation was definitely warranted.

Therein lies the rub. Any of these incidents when taken alone is insignificant. Together however they take on a more insidious meaning. I've no doubt that if given a black mask and the opportunity, the protagonist above would gladly pepper spray someone or swing a bike lock at someone's face. While I agree, the Left would undoubtedly cast any more robust response as an "overreaction," but so be it. We've reached the point where there is really no other choice. The Left as deliberately removed all other options and relies solely on the restraint of its opponents. Unless the Left is disabused of the notion that anything it does will be met appeals to decorum, then the rest of us should just surrender the field now.

fnord

Taking one on the chin and smiling is how we win.

======
Things the Jews said.

Hal

People point out that ISIS are doing this right now, and they're not noted for personal liberty and property rights . . .

And along with Daesh there is equally the Word of Faith Fellowship and Warren Jeffs, et al, and prolly rather a few others of the same sort. Then again, mere right wing is indeed mere right wing, regardless of whatever faith it's based on, the actions chosen do show the details and what to oppose . . .

WTP

WoFF and Warren J are personality cults. As bad as they are they are still a long way from being a serious threat to those who don't buy into their cult.

SumDumGuy

Funny thing about the Jews? They are still here. Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, etc. not so much.

It isn't up to college republicans to fight back. It isn't up to you or I as individuals to fight back. Creaming some ladyboy bully in front of a huge group of leftists is a sure fire way of losing moderate America. Moderate America put DT in office and as long as people like the above don't get it, we win more and more of moderate America. What we can do is they are doing; be jerks who aren't actually hurting anybody. Nobody should ever be offended by a banner and a BBQ, but they are and when they are on camera pushing us around, we win.

So I repeat, taking it on the chin and smiling is how we (as individuals) win. Because the game that ultimately wins is the long game, not the current hot topic game.

Deborah

I did notice Miss Dainty Herself is wearing a kitty cat shirt with the word Purrgatory on it, this almost deserves its own thread.

Deborah

SumDumGuy,

I would venture to guess that taking it on the chin is our red-headed diva's stock in trade.

Perhaps, we should use an alternate phrase. Just sayin'

WTP

Funny thing about the Jews? They are still here.

Some 6 million of them aren't. Nor are about 7 - 10 million Ukrainians. Those are real people, not ideologies. Both Communism and Nazism survive to this day. The latter more repressed but still easy to find if you look. 15 million real Jews and Ukrainians, not so much.

I would venture to guess that taking it on the chin is our red-headed diva's stock in trade.

Perhaps, we should use an alternate phrase. Just sayin'

I would venture to say that taking it on the chin in the context you speak of is far more accurate in describing the republican boys here. Either way, I don't see it as winning.

While I agree, the Left would undoubtedly cast any more robust response as an "overreaction," but so be it. We've reached the point where there is really no other choice.

Precisely. It's not the 20th century any more.

Deborah

WTP,

Don't misinterpret my lame humor to mean that I disagree with your position, to the contrary, I am in your camp. I do not agree with the insistence that those on the right must always maintain decorum. Pffft! I'm a life long scrapper, which is to say that I do not take a lot of shit. I will give some rope and I would never instigate, but there is a line, that once crossed requires a setting aside of certain niceties. Always and consistently turning the other check generally serves only to embolden the aggressor, which goes a long way to understanding how we got where we are today. No one is going to convince me that being a doormat is the winning path, in the long or short turn.

WTP

D, yes np. I was kinda thinking you were agreeing. I give a lot of rope as well. I good bit. At one point in my youth I went through a bit of a pacifist phase after getting in trouble for fighting back because, as I was told, "All fighting is wrong" and "turn the other cheek". Being rather tall and a pretty good student (back then) I became a target for bullies. One day I actually got in trouble for "fighting" when I hadn't even thrown a punch back. At that point I realized that I was going to get in trouble anyway, f' the bastards and went back to my old ways. Such is why crap like this totally pisses me off. It's not so much the offenders themselves, who are generally useful idiots. It's the administrators, the teachers, and in grown-up world the judges, the politicians, even the police, the "authority" figures who take this approach that I truly blame. Left to their own devices children will mostly take care of things themselves. The weak do need help, but once we transitioned to this BS of all violence is wrong, we f'd our society and the weak from the bottom up. So now we have re"thug"licans being pussies and clowns like this POS pushing people around.

PiperPaul

"the game that ultimately wins is the long game"

When does the game stop and who determines when?

Tom
So I repeat, taking it on the chin and smiling is how we (as individuals) win.

Taking abuse stoically worked well for Martin Luther King because the national media of the day were, if not entirely on his side, at least honestly objective. I believe they were completely on his side and the slide towards full leftist support was already underway but that's neither here nor there.

The same tactic won't work anymore because the media will portray it as they want it to appear and the mythical moderates (I keep hearing people talk about them but I've never met someone who didn't take sides in a political discussion.) will see and believe the twisted narrative, fake news if you will.

I tend toward the pessimistic so I think none of this matters, we've already gone too far in the wrong direction and the end result is either conflict or enslavement, not actual shackles mind, you'll have lots of cool stuff just not very many rights. In that case, 'When the fall is all you have, how you fall matters.'

WTP

you'll have lots of cool stuff just not very many rights.

Until, increasingly, you can't buy more cool stuff as the supply dwindles, professional help from the likes of doctors to electricians to plumbers becomes harder and harder to find because supply dwindles, many people's personal aspirations and life satisfaction dwindle because it's not so much about having cool stuff but using the cool stuff to make more even cooler stuff is what they enjoy, and the cycle continues perhaps not to actual shackles but Venezuela or Cuba. But on a wider international scale.

Personally I'm trying real hard to be optimistic as being in that latter group of people, that's no world i want to live in.

WTP

Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, hey hey, goodbye.

Surrender is best left to the professionals.

Microbillionaire

Here's an entire collection of creatures of decorum and poise.

WTP

Micro,
Woman...or whatevers, can't assume eh?...bottom right, glasses, looks like an msnbc talking head.

Microbillionaire

A lot of them look like talking heads to me. There's a certain kind of odd uniformity about the collection that I'm not sure what to call, but I will note the general lack of tattoos. Also no odd piercings and no persons of blackness or whatever the term is this year. Maybe the 3 Photo Not Available all happen to be Af-Am, but I doubt it. Also few chins and many rounded-off balloon-heads.

Anyone with better facial recognition skills and vocabulary who can try to elucidate what's up with them?

Thomas Fuller

Seems to me that the modern version of not taking it on the chin is to record the incident and upload it to YouTube. Win-win-win: no one is physically hurt, the people being abused are thus flameproof and will not be rusticated, and the incident is exposed to a wider audience -- sometimes very wide indeed. Result: the aggressor looks bad, brings the left even further into disfavour and undermines the Gramscian strategy that spawned all this unhappiness in the first place.

SumDumGuy

Yes, millions of Jews died and it took the entire world to save the rest. But the world didn't step in after they found the death camps, they stepped in when their own best interests were under attack or when it became obvious that they were next on the list. And that is pretty much what is going to happen here as well. Just without all the killing, I hope.

The civil rights movement was different. Dr. King had liberal and religious opinion on his side, it really was a slim majority of Southerners that opposed equal rights for blacks, everyone else just didn't want to speak up because nobody wants to start trouble. It wasn't until they saw the dogs and fire hoses that southern public opinion started to sway and everybody else grew a spine. The media helped then, but it won't help now and that's okay. They have next to zero credibility in conservative circles and not much more when it comes to moderates on either side of the aisle. Besides that, they are practically irrelevant these days with the internet providing a platform for every conservative blogger in the world to provide the other side of the story to their readership.

How much longer? Not much longer. Because every time a big tough ladyboy barges up full of righteous anger; bravely crumples up a banner and verbally assaults a little brown kid we win, no matter how it's reported. Note how said decorous creature starts to falter 90 odd seconds in, he doesn't have the spine for a prolonged confrontation and neither does most of the extreme left. They've been given a free ride for decades, been allowed to get away with increased demands and lowered expectations. They've been coddled and pampered and insulated from the real world. But now, like the spoiled children they are, they've just about pushed too far and need to be put in time out.

This a game moderates can win and we won't have to play much longer. Public opinion has been swayed and the harder and more ridiculous the left's demands, the more people will stop catering to them.
