Though I do like the idea of a Can’t Play Well With Others Club.

"I don't want to belong to any club that will accept people like me as a member." - Groucho Marx

"Diversity is our strength!"

Oh wait.

David

First, it’s the notion that ostentatiously excluding “able-bodied straight white men” as some inherent problem somehow means “equal rights for all.” And then there’s the conceit that the kinds of personalities attracted to such labelling and intersectional scolding are the kinds of personalities most likely to achieve this fragrantly egalitarian utopia. Rather than the whole thing resulting in endless, fractal sub-divisions, each claiming greater victimhood (and therefore greater piety), while jostling for status as rulers of the crab bucket.

RightofGenghis

This identity politics nonsense is in a contest with enviro-nutbag-ism to see which is the world's dumbest religion

Farnsworth M. Muldoon

A new party the "centers" everyone but able bodies straight white males ? WTF - they already have that in the democrats and I imagine the labourites.

Lab Rat

This identity politics nonsense is in a contest with enviro-nutbag-ism to see which is the world's dumbest religion

This.

At least the more traditional religions acknowledged a power greater than humanity in play.

These modern secular religions have turned inward, beyond navel gazing, to orifices further down, degenerating into, as David often describes them, crabs in a bucket.

Something that recently occurred to me...One nice thing about 1984's Two Minutes of Hate was that it only lasted two minutes. Would make for a much healthier society if you ask me.

David

Related, this:

This statement is in response to an upstanding community crack dealer and career criminal, a self-declared “gang banger,” choking on his own stash while resisting arrest, and whose associates decided to express their grief at this great loss to humanity by donning masks, smashing windows, and assaulting and terrorising random people.

You’ll be astonished to hear that Skylar Baker-Jordan, pictured above, has “an academic background in gender studies.”

Someone call the stereotype police.

Mr. Saturn

For all their talk the people who cause me to develop an antipathy towards minorities of any kind are not the white supremacists they use as a boogeyman but groups and people like them. Fortunately I am of a stronger mind than to succumb to their garbage but sometimes it is extraordinarily hard not to.

David

Someone call the stereotype police.

And a hairdresser.

David

Someone call the stereotype police.

Again, this isn’t some random fit of idiocy; this is a learned behaviour. Skylar, like so many others, has been severely educated.

David

“All white people are complicit in white supremacy - ergo, racism,” says Skylar.

Because cultivating paranoia and resentment is so helpful, of course. And what every minority person needs to succeed in life is someone to tell them, often and emphatically, that the fault, whatever it is, always lies elsewhere, and that their fate is not their own.

Because whitey.

Sam

Skylar Baker-Jordan, pictured above, has “an academic background in…

gender studies.”

Thomas Fuller

In response to Cathy Young's call for a party that includes everyone except white men, would it not be perfectly reasonable to found a corresponding party that is open only to white men?

Aims of said party would be the formation of a white homeland (let's call it the Fatherland) where blacks, homosexuals, Jews, etc., etc. would be unwelcome to the point of ... you get the picture.

Logically and morally the two parties would be identical.

David

It’s not Cathy Young’s call. She’s mocking it. It’s the idea of “former journalist” Wendy Brandes.

Mike

Because cultivating paranoia and resentment is so helpful, of course. And what every minority person needs to succeed in life is someone to tell them, often and emphatically, that the fault, whatever it is, always lies elsewhere, and that their fate is not their own.

I want to upvote this.

Sadly, it’s a common feature of “social justice” advocacy; more poisonous counsel.

“I only got a ‘C’ on my English test. Maybe I should have studied more.”

“Studying won’t help. It’s because of white supremacy.”

If that sounds outlandish, consider the Writing Centre at the University of Washington, Tacoma, the stated goal of which is to “help writers write and succeed in a racist society,” and which aims to improve the life chances of brown-skinned students by encouraging them to give employers the impression that they’re incapable of mastering even rudimentary grammar. Because the way for minority students to flourish as writers is to dismiss any criticism of their prose, and any attempt to improve it, as a racially motivated “microaggression” and an “oppressive practice,” and thus proof of “an inherently racist society.” And because that ungrammatical job application, the one enlivened with incomprehensible sentences and lots of inventive spelling, will do just fine, apparently.

And if you think that must be a one-off aberration, follow the links in the piece and subsequent comments.

Jen

As Heather Mac Donald noted, it’s like watching a co-dependent relationship. Or at best, a shockingly incompetent parent.

Sporkatus

In much the same way as psychology majors often are trying to understand their own mental issues, should I assume that the Skylar-person chose its major to find out just what in the hell its sex actually is?

I myself remain a bit baffled.

David

I myself remain a bit baffled.

You’ll notice I carefully skirted around that whole issue.

Sporkatus
Logically and morally the two parties would be identical.
They wish to create such a party by exclusion, because the villain role is already defined. The costumes all fit, so to speak. Nothing could make them happier than to be opposed to such people - Nazis. And obviously, if they bring in everyone who might have once been given the side-eye by some iniquitous White Person, then only Nazis will be left. The only person who will oppose a left-wing nazi of sorts will clearly be a right-wing Nazi. Right?

Unfortunately, out here in the real world, this defines their opposition as Nazis, people who're a bit annoyed by them and contrary, and... people other than totally mad. The clustering by race also suggests a bit of the old politics-by-genes, being "authentic" nonsense.

Since they have a surfeit of opponents rather than a small and easily defeated cadre - because their definitions spread a much wider net than their rhetoric - the only thing that remains is to bemoan the enormous scope of hallucinatory Nazism at large.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

Fair warning - it appears zer has infected Blighty, but we don't want zit back here either. Perhaps y'all can banish xem to some island off Scotland ?

David

I see Skylar is a Laurie Penny fan. You can imagine my surprise.

David

And goodness me, lookee here.

Every pretentious intersectional tic, every cliché, regurgitated wholesale. It’s as if some people aspire to being cartoons.

Sporkatus

Pinned tweet is a reply to self on some Deeply Important Issue, with minimal context. Thus forcing one to do one's own digging to find out what the Vitally Important notice that The Skylar has issued and demands your attention to really means.

Professional writer and editor, you see.

David

And goodness me, lookee here.

From the linked article:

Racism and sexism require both prejudice and power, and as a woman of colour, Mustafa lacks both white privilege and male privilege, and thus lacks any structural or institutional power in these areas. Yes, she is a student leader at a fairly prestigious college, which may give her cultural currency and even other types of privilege, but that is irrelevant to this discussion. Intersectionality — the theory we are all differently privileged and oppressed — is key to understanding why, coming from Mustafa, #KillAllWhiteMen is different than, say, #KillAllGayMen.

Note the carefully contorted definitions, the airy unrealism, and the reliance on double standards. (Basic reciprocity is, it seems, terribly old hat.) And so, for instance, the 18-year-old mentally impaired white man who was beaten and tortured by laughing black assailants - who livestreamed the assault on Facebook while shouting “Fuck white people” - this wouldn’t count as racism. According to Mr Baker-Jordan.

Who, lest we forget, has “an academic background in gender studies.”

Spiny Norman

And goodness me, lookee here.

As you say, clown shoes. >_<

David

As you say, clown shoes.

It’s stupefying stuff, a cultivated unrealism.

It’s stupefying stuff, a cultivated unrealism.

Indeed, cultivated and pretentious unrealism: Ten things you may not know about Skylar Baker-Jordan, but probably didn't want to anyway.

It’s as if some people aspire to being cartoons.

I think this bozo has more than aspired to, but actually mastered, being a living cartoon.

David

As you say, clown shoes.

The irony being that if you wanted to see some shockingly racist behaviour – behaviour that’s being publicly and widely applauded - then a very good place to look would be a campus crawling with “social justice” devotees.

Sporkatus
According to Mr Baker-Jordan.
We'd gone so far without any explicit mention of the sex, and now you've let it slip and the whole thing is shattered. Mystery laid bare, suspense come to an end.

I know, no refunds, credit note only.

Sporkatus

And of course I missed your edit above to clarify the he-ness, so the blame is lying on the wrong REVEAL comment. I maintain it is a *just* blame, however.

I ask you, when has clarity ever contributed to the fun of a thing? Never, that's when.

Why am I not surprised to learn that Skylar "is single and finds dating annoying and exhausting"? I'm inclined to believe it would have been the counterparty (if indeed there were any) who experienced the annoyance and exhaustion.

I knew I'd seen that Skylar name somewhere before. Oh yeah:

The representations of the UW Tacoma Writing Center and its antiracism statement being made by national issues-oriented blogs are completely inaccurate.

Heh. Quoted verbatim, here and elsewhere, they’ve chosen to lie. Why, it’s almost as if they’re hustlers.

Jonathan

English people seem to me to be the most tolerant on Earth, but sure, keep aggravating able-bodied straight white men and see what happens.

Lab Rat

Why, it’s almost as if they’re hustlers.

You don't say... Flabbergasted, I am.

Truth is as fluid as gender these days, it seems.

Sporkatus
The representations ... made by national issues-oriented blogs.
Well, since David's not a *US national* blog of such kind, they don't quite contradict him, do they?
David

Flabbergasted, I am.

Actually, hustlers doesn’t quite capture the degeneracy of what they do. These so-called educators, self-styled champions of “social justice,” function more as saboteurs. In that, if you were spiteful and wanted to undermine the practical life chances of black students, and leave them resentful, unskilled and racially fixated, and heavily in debt, it’s hard to see what you’d do differently.

Lab Rat

In that, if you were spiteful and wanted to undermine the practical life chances of black students, and leave them resentful, unskilled and racially fixated, and heavily in debt, it’s hard to see what you’d do differently.

Amen!!

And here in the US, at least, this keeps them dependent on the politicians who promise the free goodies to which they are "entitled" because of all the Oppression listed above. Keeps them chained on the Democrat - Leftist - plantation. It's a vicious little cycle.

The black students refuse to see how badly they are being used, and by whom. Yet they can spot a "microaggression" a mile away.

It's enough to drive a thinking person to drink. Good thing I've come to the right place.

Sporkatus
Keeps them chained on the Democrat - Leftist - plantation.
And what was the purpose of the classical plantation if not to enrich the operator and grant him power?

An odious quality of the welfare-state plantation is that the slave does not generate wealth as in the old model, he merely serves as an appropriating vessel to obtain it from the general fund. His role is to transform that "crop" of safety net transfers into the substance of a thousand governmental agencies, supporting businesses, convenience stores, slumlord empires, and on - on which foundation the Party builds its edifice. The sytem does not debase him with the whip because it does not have to, and it debases him a thousand other ways.

What if one is a fugitive from this plantation? Well, it has ensured that the fugitive has not been educated, has no useful skills, has little discipline, no savings, and otherwise cannot survive outside - a more comparatively dramatic state of affairs than the 1850s. Having nothing but the clothes on his back is that much further from what he must leave behind, and far below society in general. In his first relocation and job, his resources will dry up, and society will cast him out again, returning him to the plantation because it is now... everywhere. In the mean time, his chains rest lightly.

The gifts that the slaveholder never meant to give were the knowledge of labor, a limited cage, and the lack of anything to lose. The modern slaver does not mean to repeat those mistakes.

Lab Rat

[eyes the eggs suspiciously, then shrugs, taking one]

These can't be any more odious than the behaviors and philosophies being discussed in this thread. And I should consume something solid if I will be drinking.

What if one is a fugitive from this plantation?
It should also be mentioned what the fugitive's former compatriots will do to one attempting to flee from this plantation - and we've come again to the crab bucket analogy.

Farnsworth M. Muldoon

The real oppression, for the most part, comes from within.

Indeed, and summarized in this essay, The Pettiness of the Left.

Certainly there are some leftist and democrats who do no begrudge those that have more. But the majority of them stew in their jealousy which turns into hatred, forcing them to live lives where all they do is obsess about the rich instead of appreciating what they have and getting lives of their own...They are miserable people who will waste their entire, precious lives being envious of what others have instead of appreciating what they have. And when the day comes that they're on their death bed, all they will have to point to is a life of whining, complaining, hatred, and jealousy.
Monty James

Lab Rat mentioned the possibility of this being a parody account. I wish it was, I can't help thinking that America owes Britain some sort of apology for this. Each country has their nuts, this promiscuous hands across the sea lunatic exchange isn't helpful to either of us.

That boy couldn't have had a father growing up. The haircut's the tell. A dad would have put his foot down and told him "I'm not going to stand idly by while you think of new ways to get your ass kicked", when he got home from the stylist sporting a hairdo like that, and hauled him to the barber.

Flubber

This is why the radical left loves Islam - they're too pussified to actually undertake a proper revolution, so they'll use Islamic extremists as their storm-troopers.

The fact that these same extremists will kill them afterwards, is off little concern. Their hate trumps their self regard.

Sporkatus

@Flubber: Entirely true, but understates the extent to which all of this is based on I Hate You, Dad and seeking solace with Mother State.

Christianity plays the role in their little mental pigeonhole system of Bad Dad, so therefore Islam (mom's boyfriend) must be supported in all things, just as mom continues to find hard luck with her attempts to change him and comes home with a fat lip. It's all still Dad's Fault even when dad isn't around.

To be a guest conductor of a symphony orchestra, you'd better not be caught being conservative.

David

Mr Baker-Jordan is now upset about the attention his various pronouncements have attracted. Some people have tweeted mean replies.

Thing is, if you gleefully insult people based solely on their race, baselessly and perversely accusing them of being bigoted by definition, and if you then sneer at their complaints and corrections as collectively invalid, again by definition, and if you do this in order to signal membership of some modish in-group and thereby assert your own imagined status, then quite a few people will feel no obligation to be polite in return.

This should not be surprising. Even to someone with a minor in Women’s Studies.

Yes. I was about to say a mashup of PF and The New Republic. Had that same "yeah...riiiight" sensation I got from Stephan Glass's pieces.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

From the "Let's All Be Offended" files, some silly adjunct professor gets bent out of shape over the term "paddy wagon".

Two years ago, I complained to the New York Times about the appearance of “paddy wagon” in a crossword. Puzzle editor Will Shortz dismissed my objections, writing: “The Irish are not a group that’s discriminated against in the U.S.”...That’s generally true. But each use of the phrase “paddy wagon” evokes a time when they were.

Glossing over the fact that in NYC it was mainly Irish cops throwing other Irish into the paddy wagons, I can't say that I have ever been triggered by the word paddy wagon because it "evoked" a time when my ancestors might have been discriminated against, but then, I am not woke. However, wake me if there are going to be some sweet, sweet, reparations.

Darleen

When your “social justice” article looks a lot like something from Stormfront.

The original article is attacking the children of black & white parents ...

This kind of manipulation of using your mixed Black child to denounce antiblack racism as a means to recenter your whiteness is violent.

As is Laurie Penny. The other day she let everyone know some lover of hers (I doubt he was an actual boyfriend as normal people would understand the term) had dumped her in a particularly offhand and callous manner. I have a theory that feminists get enraged by men mainly because they choose to associate with some of the very worst types, probably because their politics align.

Wait, so she is queer (adopting qualities of both gender roles), non-binary (don't assign me your gender roles, man), and "femme" (adopting excessively feminine mannerisms in accord with a female gender role) all at once? A person who is femininely female in accord with actual sex (?) and somehow not female or male and both female and male as well insofar as it's trendy. Right.

Gads, these people can't even keep their psychoses consistent. To say nothing of apparently thinking that "black and fat" define sexual roles.
