The bastards!

David

The bastards!

Well, quite. But running a small business is apparently an act of “exploitation.” You see, by employing people, and paying taxes, and providing goods and services that others willingly pay for, you are of course oppressing them. Obviously.

It’s also worth noting the trajectory. The same institution that’s been endlessly indulgent of their vanities and pretensions, and their disruptions, and their vandalism, is now in effect dismissed as corrupt, oppressive and unworthy of their efforts.

The bourgeois oppressors who’ll be left to cover these communists’ student loans.

I somehow doubt that the corruption they refer to includes their own parasitism and colossal sense of entitlement, or the institutional indulgence of it, or a worldview in which the bill is always and forever some other sucker’s business.

PiperPaul

Hey, they're just following in the non-funny Marx brother's footsteps, so their purity is intact.

Tangentially related, In America coffee wakes you, in Soviet Seattle, you Woke™ coffee.

“In the time of Black Lives Matter, when we see over and over again how coffee spaces, cafes, and the coffee industry exclude people of color...Coffee, cafes are seen generally as the first wave of gentrification ...How should the industry increase coffee consumption among African Americans and other minority groups, Johnson asked. Her answer: “Hire them.”

a) I am guessing they forgot coffee wasn't invented in Seattle;
b) Not having a Starbucks in a ghetto does not mean "people of color" don't drink coffee, just that they don't drink overpriced boutique coffee;
c) Which do you want - "people of color" to drink more boutique coffee, or not;
d) I am also guessing Johnson hasn't been in many places other than Seattle to see who is making the coffee;
e) Let's continue to politicize all the things - next up, is your oil change racist ?

The Left used to pretend that its hatred of capitalism stemmed from how "big business oppresses the workers", but every now and then the Left lets slip that it hates all private enterprise right down to those bastards the "rich kulaks".

Farnsworth M Muldoon

Naked Capitalism has a category called “The Ongoing Crapification Of Everything.”

Speaking of ongoing crapification, your daily dose of the Clown Quarter, brought to you by the journal of "Feminist Geography"; Trans objects: materializing queer time in US transmasculine homes

They provide a means for trans folks to acknowledge the queerness of the multiple life course temporalities co-present in the intimacy of private space, and we suggest that through these objects trans bodies engage in a process of becoming through moments of ‘co-substancing’ with the objects that are cherished, displayed, or hidden, in trans homespaces.

Yeah, what zhe said...

We argue that more scholarly attention needs to be paid to the everyday, mundane geographies of transgender lives.

I argue that more scholarly and clinical attention needs to be paid to the mental health problems of the Clown Quarter.

Hopp Singg

How can I tell when people are writing Clown Quarter articles vs when they're having a stroke? I'd hate to rub DMSO all over a feminist by mistake.

PiperPaul

Clown Quarter introspection.
Navel-gazing is so old fashioned.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

How can I tell when people are writing Clown Quarter articles vs when they're having a stroke?

As the main symptom of Clown Quarter Article is logorrhea, the differential include stroke, psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia, manic phase of bipolar disorder, etc), and just Useless and Angry Studies Degree. The latter does not preclude the other two, and some studies have shown the second to be a prerequisite for the latter.

Unfortunately, logorrhea, if the result of a stroke, is due to a frontal lobe lesion, and unless it is significant enough also to involve any of the motor cortex, there may be no visible signs such as any form of paresis, and diagnosis would rely on imaging.

If there is any doubt, the best course of action is to hoist the yellow flag and stay well away from the afflicted.

“For all you Brit birdwatchers, from Naked Capitalism:”

Some of the tweets (heh!) there are terrifying, e.g.:

She put a wild owl in her car... with a baby.

This is what happens when a nation becomes so prosperous that it thinks wildlife is something to be worshipped rather than feared. The hunter-gatherers of the last ice age didn't end up as a spacefaring species by inadvertantly feeding their offspring to ravenous birds of prey. Then again, I suppose in a way we should be grateful there are - that is, that there can be - idiots like this around.

“Trans objects: materializing queer time in US transmasculine homes”

Doing what now? It sounds like the sort of bullshit Brannon Braga used to louse up Star Trek: Voyager with. Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow!

“[The] individual walked around from my left and splashed my pants, our club banner, and other club materials with black paint,” he said. “Additionally, the school’s table and canopy were splashed with the paint.”

The perpetrator proceeded to take a picture of the vandalism before fleeing the scene...

Brilliant camouflage, I'm surprised the police corralled the (unnamed) androgynous perp so quickly.

. . . by the musicians placing great demands upon the venue, then not showing up to perform, then demanding full appearance fees . . .

Keep in mind that this is also a quite proven method for enforcing performance and show hall safety requirements. When dealing with idiots who may resort to merely frantically waving their hands about,'tis better to utterly require that they actually note and acknowledge the correct details.

The staging sank through their floor. They didn’t bother to look at the weight requirements or anything, and this sank through their new flooring and did eighty thousand dollars’ worth of damage to the arena floor. The whole thing had to be replaced.

I don't think any of those words mean what they think they mean. That's some weapons grade stupid.

David

I don’t think any of those words mean what they think they mean.

As I said at the time, you have to marvel at supposedly educated people, self-styled intellectuals, who insist that supporting one’s family and enabling employees to support theirs is a bad thing, something to be demonised and destroyed. And who insist that “the wealth” is something to be “allocated” by an enormous government apparatus, via endless cronyism, and that “equitable distribution” should take no account whatsoever of who did what to generate the wealth being “allocated,” or of how to ensure that the wealth-creating process continues.

People who, being educated, imagine themselves as enlightened angels while salivating at the thought of “expropriating” the eventual, modest rewards of some random stranger’s sacrifice and hard work.

Still, I suppose it’s good to be reminded that there are people whose worldview is a near-total inversion of reality, and utterly poisonous.

Yes, very odd: An individual store owner offering someone X dollars a week to run the cash register or stock shelves is "domination", but a government telling everyone that they must take the job they are assigned and work for the wages decreed is "freedom". One can only suppose that these enlightened beings are deluded by theory and by a psychological defect.

I do wonder how one could ever walk back from such a worldview. Does reality ever impinge on their revolutionary fantasies? Would vanity permit it? Or do they end up old and resentful, and still coughing up the same Marxoid claptrap?

For instance, Bearded Hat Guy, above, who looks down his nose while regurgitating his lectures notes, and who fantasises about punishing random strangers for daring to own a small restaurant – what will he be doing in forty years? Will he be happy? Will his have been a life well lived?

Yes, but my chief concern is with the many people will have made unhappy and the lives he will have damaged. Those are the ones who most deserve our compassion.

The prospect of doing harm thrills them and energizes them.

Now you've done it. I could write 10,000 words on this topic, though I'd substitute "Nature" generally for wildlife. Any un-woke person who's spent ten minutes at Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon can give a witness of the truth of that statement. Nature is not an effing petting zoo or a Disneyland ride, you twits.

Insert catapult clip from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. "Moo!"

David

The prospect of doing harm thrills them and energizes them.

Having poked through this stuff, and these people, for more than a decade, the two common motives do seem to be vanity and malice. It’s telling, for instance, that the Mao-lings’ alleged consciousness-raising almost always takes the form of harassment, insults and attempts to dominate, either physically or psychologically. And so we’ve seen them using loudhailers in a library so no-one else could study for exams; and blocking the path of white students and making them walk through mud; and trapping a wheelchair-bound woman in a lobby and jeering at her predicament; and shattering the windscreen of a random female motorist, then laughing as they videoed her distress. Endless variations of the same dumb malevolence.

If you’re sufficiently twisted, and insufficiently deterred, it’s a powerful motivator.

My father visited Romania in the '60s. It was right at the beginning of Ceucescu's reign, and it was still considered an interesting destination. He got talking to his “travel agent”, because it turned out she'd trained in law, as he had. So why was she doing this? “Because I speak English. I trained as a lawyer, that's what I wanted to do. But the communists gave me a 'choice': be a travel agent, or work in the fields. What would you do?”

What frustrates me is that people only seemed to notice the desucrification* of fizzy pop after it became mandatory. It's been getting harder and harder to find real, unadulterated, lemonade for years. Now, no doubt, it'll be impossible and I'll have to resort to Coke this summer.
