She’s an educator, you know.

You see, reporting the crime would be proof of your “privilege”

The privilege of being mugged.

David

The privilege of being mugged.

Well, quite. While conversely, being granted a license to mug others with impunity and no fear of the police being summoned or any punitive consequences, on account of one’s melanin levels, is in no way a privilege, apparently.

But if we pull at the knots and contradictions we’ll be here all day.

The privilege of being mugged.

And let’s not forget Harvard-educated sociology professor Crystal Fleming, who championed the looting of trainers while the law-abiding were distracted by an oncoming hurricane.

David

Oh, and we mustn’t neglect Salon’s Scott Eric Kaufman, who told his readers, emphatically, that young black males “shouldn’t have to” comply with lawful instructions from the police. Mr Kaufman, who is white, dismissed any cooperation with the police as being “servile,” presumably on grounds that being combative and physically resisting detainment or arrest will improve the situation no end.

It's as if these people want to ruin the lives of those they pretend to care about.

I doubt she's going to like the results.

Left unchecked, human beings tend to develop convoluted systems of special rights and privileges. The now-fading modernist ideology of equal protection of the laws might perhaps be a hothouse flower that doesn’t flourish without constant care. One distinctive aspect of postmodern privileges is that they are justified in the name of equality, but the workings are not all that different from the premodern world.

Does she live it or just preach it?

My guess is that she lives in a great LA neighborhood in a 24/7 doorman-protected building. Where it's safe to be down with the cause.

I believe this is called doubling down:

The victims of thugs, muggers and other criminal predators will doubtless be chuffed.

Miss Abdullah (she is, to no one's surprise, unmarried) also has Woke™ chirrens...

“Lots of people have died because of you,” Abdullah’s 10-year-old daughter told LAPD Chief Charlie Beck. “I think it’s horrible that you don’t care what you have done, and killed so many young children.”

“I don’t know who to call anymore when I need help,” Abdullah’s 13-year-old daughter told the LAPD commissioners. “We see incident upon incident of people who call the police for help and end up being shot to death.”

“You’re supposed to protect and serve,” said Abdullah’s 7-year-old son. “It’s more like you’re protecting and serving yourselves.”

How all this squares with being a "scholar" of hip hop, a genre of "music" that glorifies drugs, pimping hos, and busting caps on peoples' asses remains unclear - and now the reveal...

For much of her life, Abdullah was known as Melina Reimann, the granddaughter of a world-renowned Marxist economist named Günter Reimann, who joined Germany’s Communist Party around 1920.
David

I see that our esteemed intellectual, our “womanist, truth-teller,” claims that policing is “intentionally constructed” to “return enslaved people to their alleged owners.” It is, she says, merely a tool of – wait for it - “white supremacist patriarchal heteronormative capitalist society.” A string of words that should remind us of how the regurgitation of Marxoid phrases is merely an approximation of mental activity.

It would be unkind to wish on this preposterous woman a small taste of the unpunished thuggery and lawlessness that she wishes to inflict on others, including other, more law-abiding black people. But it is, I think, tempting.

Chester Draws

She aims to replace police with community based safety teams.

This is, indeed, Marxist dogma.

What happens, inevitably, is that those community based teams get sick of doing it for free. So they end up being paid.

Then they demand training, so that they know what they are doing.

And they slowly demand that someone decent is put in charge, to stop the politicised know-nothings from stopping them from operating effectively.

And you end up with police again. Except they are now called militia (or militsia, when the USSR did it) or similar. Generally it takes about 5 years to end up back where you started. But with the benefit of having beat up quite a few political opponents along the way.

Not a single Socialist regime has made a citizen police force work, and many have tried. Still, I suppose next time will be different.

(Marx advocated a similar "citizens militia" to replace the army too. That was even less successful. Generally it lasts until the first defeat, which is when they meet the first professional opponent.)

Farnsworth M Muldoon

It is, she says, merely a tool of – wait for it - “white supremacist patriarchal heteronormative capitalist society.”

Well, yes, that is, I think, a given.

However, upon learning more about the esteemed Genosse Reimann and his issue, it is apparent that Miss Abdullah is herself at least 50% white devil, and unless here bairn were borne as if Minerva (or there were turkey basters involved), she too may be suffering from a touch of heteronormativity.

I hope she is reporting herself for appropriate Struggle Sessions.

The race war they so desperately want will kill young people of all races, it won't kill these assholes.
Just now sick and depraved are they?
They are weaponizing children, they are destroying young lives.

The Phantom

In cities where concealed carry is legal, people call the police on black people much less often. Because the crime rate is so much lower, they don't have to.

Leftists now screaming at their computer screens are encouraged to go look that up. Its one of those inconvenient truths Lefties don't like to acknowledge.

Generally it takes about 5 years to end up back where you started.

In the university town where I pursued my undergraduate studies, there was a "barter network" amongst the painfully hip businesses that supported students (like the video rental store, the vinyl record store, the "alternative" bookstore, etc.). The idea being that they could swap goods and services B2B without using money, as money was a tool of the capitalist oppressors. Except they quickly realized that the problem with a barter network was that Alice may need your business' services, but you may not need hers; you need Bob's instead.

So after a couple of years they invented "barter dollars", a scrip that was only usable amongst businesses in the network and that could be exchanged at any one of them for services.

If they'd just said "look, it's a tax dodge" I'd have had more respect for them.

Meanwhile, on the topic of controlling sexual assaults and violence, a professor at Northeastern Illinois University echoes... what was that demented bastard's name, "sandwichman"? Anyway, we need to tax Jeff Bezos in order to make shorter work weeks possible, providing sexual fulfilment for any and all "incel"s! Marxism, the miracle cure for everything:

https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=10887

Of course, there is a convenient ignorance that lack of fulfilment in jobs, miserable conditions in long weeks to merely survive, et al are fueled by the *real world* impact of wealth distribution schemes. There is a resentment, out of which grows the "feeling entitled to" sex and other things, because of the *sure knowledge* that a single man attempting to work hard and establish himself is being taken advantage of.

A scheme by which anyone willing to work hard will then continue to be taxed (worse!), putting in long hours, and see more of his peers supported off his misery in hopes that *they* will not go mad... well, it suggests to me that our professor has not actually *worked* a day in his life.

Nor is his sophistry very good, as any scheme resulting transparently in "the hard worker gets it in the shorts" might even give old Karl pause. Removing incentive for hard work is one thing, attempting to enslave hard workers is more idiotic still.

Governor Squid

(Marx advocated a similar "citizens militia" to replace the army too. That was even less successful. Generally it lasts until the first defeat, which is when they meet the first professional opponent.)

This is why the "well regulated" language is so important. It's ironic, the way in which those who'd love to set up a "citizens' militia" never seem to recognize that the scheme was thoroughly debated in Philadelphia in the 1780s.

David

Removing incentive for hard work is one thing, attempting to enslave hard workers is more idiotic still.

I see that Mr Zimmer, our “philosopher and educator,” and gifted fantasist, approvingly retweets, twice, Ms Danielle Corcione’s Teen Vogue article on Marxism – the one noted here, and which somehow failed to mention the, shall we say, historical downside of Marxoid conceits – i.e., some of the greatest horrors of the Twentieth Century.

Our brightest and best, then.

Generally it takes about 5 years to end up back where you started.

It’s what happens when you mix ignorance and vanity – often in the conceit that these ideas are so daring and original they can’t possibly have been considered, and rejected, by any previous human being. There’s a South Park episode, Die Hippie, Die, which pokes at this quite effectively.

Bill Peschel

So she approves of George Zimmerman, then? He was on citizen's patrol when he shot the guy trying to turn his skull into guacamole.

Mr Kaufman, who is white, dismissed any cooperation with the police as being “servile,” presumably on grounds that being combative and physically resisting detainment or arrest will improve the situation no end.

I am reminded of a story told by someone I once worked with. He was a young guy, vegetarian, quite to the left in his beliefs - yet he couldn’t stand homeless people. His dislike came about after doing a photo documentary project on a homeless encampment in the area. Again and again he would witness church groups and other charities help his subjects acquire jobs, and, like clockwork, also watch his subjects quit those jobs within a few weeks. They would return to living as they were accustomed: sleeping, eating, and shitting in the same patch of refuse-littered woods, taking handouts from suckers, paying protection money to a homeless mafia, and bartering with homeless pimps for the services of homeless prostitutes.

The reason they gave, always, for quitting the jobs they had been given? They didn’t like anyone telling them what to do.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

Another thought regarding Abdullah (who was known for much of her life as Melina Reimann), it is interesting to note that somewhere along her lived life experience, as the woke kids say, she has culturally appropriated an Arabic last name.

As we all know, (cough), the Arabs never had a hand in the slave trade, and that the Arabian peninsula is known as the cradle of some the most non-paternalistic, non-misogynistic, non-heteronormative societies ever known.

It never ceases to amaze me the mental mental gymnastics and depths of cognitive dissonance these SJW fools choose to live with just to appear Woke™.

David

the mental mental gymnastics and depths of cognitive dissonance these SJW fools choose to live with just to appear Woke™.

Given the active cultivation of these mental knots and contrived anxieties, it’s no wonder so many wokelings claim to suffer from depression and other mental health issues. For instance, here.

Spiny Norman

Squires,

The reason they gave, always, for quitting the jobs they had been given? They didn’t like anyone telling them what to do.

In other words: YOU AIN'T THE BOSS OF ME!

(Well, except the homeless mafia, they ARE the boss of them.)

Reminds me of the "homeless activist" I encountered in San Diego 20 years ago, who wanted me to sign a petition DEMANDING that the entire Miramar Naval Air Station (ever see Top Gun? Yeah, that place) be turned over to the homeless.* I had the temerity to ask this "activist" if he had the energy and drive to do this, why couldn't he find a job? "Ain't no fucking way I'm gonna work for the Man!" was his rather petulant reply.

(*The US Navy was shutting down operations there and moving the Top Gun school to Florida. A commonly- and widely-misinterpreted law was claimed to make shuttered military facilities available as homeless shelters. The US Marine Corps now operate that facility, so his petition's argument was moot anyway.)

WTP

This may be off topic...but then in context ironically appropriate...In our morning standup meeting, it was mentioned that a car had overturned on the interstate this morning, big backup, sadly the person driving died, AIUI. One of my coworkers, one who has signaled somewhat similarly on other occasions, said he passed by the accident and opined how fortunate he feels to be alive, how good he has it...as a 6'4" white guy, the privileges of such, etc. etc. etc....What puzzles me is from all outward appearances, on one, besides me of course, was puzzled as to what a car overturning on the highway has to do with being white. Or tall, for that matter.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

...moving the Top Gun school to Florida...

Moved to NAS Fallon, Nevada. NAS Pensacola, Florida is where the Blue Angels live (and primary training for Naval aviators).

Spiny Norman

At the time, it was announced that Top Gun was moving to Pensacola. The move to Fallon must have been later decision, I'd guess, because, as you might expect, the move was big news in San Diego.

Spiny Norman

Please note: my ignorance of the eventual new home of the Navy's Top Gun school should not invalidate the rest of my comment. What I described DID happen. I remember the encounter clearly, because it was memorable in its stupidity.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

The move to Fallon must have been later decision...

Perhaps someone in the Navy noticed that between the primary training, the Blue Angels practicing, Eglin AFB, Hurlburt AFB, and Ft. Rucker nearby training Army helicopter pilots that the sky was already what you might call a trifle full.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

...should not invalidate the rest of my comment...

Spiny - did not in any why mean to imply that - for reasons that are unimportant now, I have heard before people thought Top Gun went to Pensacola.

Spiny Norman

Perhaps someone in the Navy noticed that "we got too much consolidatin' goin' on here"?

It's odd that the Florida panhandle has that much (crowded) military presence, when that was the very excuse for closing so many military bases in Southern California (even George AFB out here in the desert).

ComputerLabRat

I remember the encounter clearly, because it was memorable in its stupidity.

Even if they DID manage to take over something as large as a military base, and move all the homeless into it, the basics of day to day life still need to be covered.

Who pays to heat it, light it, cool it? Who pays and who maintains the place?
Who pays for water to flush the their shit? I won't go as far as to say water for bathing, but we can include it for completeness.

Who cleans up after several thousand "homeless" humans? Who cleans the facilities? Who stocks the loos with paper? Who pays for all that?
Where do they cook? Or does someone staff the mess halls and cook for them?

A lot of these people do not seem able to, and of the ones able, many do not want to, do any of the very basic things non-homeless humans do for themselves.

I'm sorry, but - ok anecdotal - data from homes taken over by squatters suggests that several homeless living in one place, no matter how nice it starts off, end up destroying it.

How would taking over a military base be any different?

These do-gooders just don't think these things through. It's all feelings. GAH!

I need a drink.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

...that was the very excuse for closing so many military bases in Southern California...

I think the operative word might be "excuse", one reality is it costs a mint to keep service members in the San Diego Area - the difference, for example, in Basic Allowance for Housing for an O-4 (Major/Lieutenant Commander) with dependents between San Diego and Fallon (or Pensacola) is over $20K/year. Probably less local regulations with which to comply as well.

Spiny Norman

ComputerLabRat,

This all stems from the quite obvious nonsense, and yet an absolute truth perpetuated by Teh Narrative, that homelessness is some function of a lack of available housing. Habitat For Humanity, etc. etc. etc. We used to call such people "bums". One can say that was not a nice word (the root of which I now see is German for loafing around) but at least it was accurate. The stupid concerning this issue is stunningly broad. They're more Hopeless than Homeless. Soapless even. Is the Correction Booth locked? I think Pogonip had the key last I checked in.

“It was when you insisted that the, uh, young lady, Tish—that Tish must pay, too. ‘Tone-stopple,’ or something like it.”

“Oh, ‘tanstaafl.’ Means ‘There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.’ And isn’t,” I added, pointing to a FREE LUNCH sign across room, “or these drinks would cost half as much. Was reminding her that anything free costs twice as much in long run or turns out worthless.”

“An interesting philosophy.”

“Not philosophy, fact. One way or other, what you get, you pay for.” I fanned air. “Was Earthside once and heard expression, ‘Free as air.’ This air isn’t free, you pay for every breath.”

Black Ball

I reckon this has been discussed before but worth another go.

1. Physically attractive workers are more confident, and higher confidence increases wages.

2. For a given level of confidence, physically attractive workers are (wrongly) considered more able by employers.

3. Controlling for worker confidence, physically attractive workers have better verbal skills (such as communication and social skills) that raise their wages when they interact with employers.

Markus M Mobius has written an essay on this theme. Wondering what the response will be from the perpetually outraged.
