I do hope I didn’t miss anything while I was away. While I do my stretching exercises and regain my blogger’s bearings, here’s a little something spotted during the week. The Normblog profile of novelist Meg Rosoff has an interesting convergence of ideas:
What do you consider the most important personal quality? > Compassion.
What personal fault do you most dislike? > Mediocrity.
And,
If you could effect one major policy change in the governing of your country, what would it be? > Outlaw private education.
Readers may find it strange that a dislike of mediocrity should be expressed with an urge to stop children escaping the mediocrity of, say, a state comprehensive school. (Though it is a common urge among the ostentatiously altruistic.) Presumably that escape route would be blocked compassionately.
