RE: Flemish style portraits

I went to see these exhibited at Dunedin public art gallery (Nina made the images on a flight to New Zealand afaik). Due to their small size, and with the right framing and use of direct soft-glow lighting, they looked quite convincing and had a painterly feel.

Well, that’s how I’ve been doing it. I’m just a little worried he’s giving away our secret.

I spotted this footnote to the British accent video:

David Ley recently became an internet sensation for his use of a vibrator to improve vocal range for singers and actors.

I just thought I’d mention that.

Probably not the place, but Norman Geras (who linked to this blog) has died this morning http://normblog.typepad.com/normblog/

Whilst I often disagreed with Norman I always found him someone worth reading

sackcloth and ashes

If I may suggest an addition to today's ephemera, can I suggest a hat-tip towards Norman Geras (linked to on this page), who has sadly passed away.

Norman Geras was a man of the left (like myself), but someone who was able - in elegantly-written blog posts - outline the intellectual and moral decay of the British left, and I suspect that on more than a few issues, David, you and he would have seen eye-to-eye.

Anyway, he was a good scholar and a good man, and his passing is a great loss. If I had been editor of the 'Guardian' he would have had a column, and had I been a BBC producer I would have frequently invited him to be a talking head.

Likewise.

Bugger.

On some, we did. More to the point, Norm always struck me as someone with whom you could disagree in good faith, at length, and do it in a gentlemanly way. Which may sound a little silly, but isn’t. I can’t help thinking the left could use more Norms and fewer Laurie Pennys.

Very sad news, RiP, Norm.

Somebody tries to tag over a Banksy work. Hilarity ensues. If you find committing violence in the name of hypocrisy hilarious.

When transgressive art transgresses against the wrong people (ie. Communists)

David

I still like Theodore Dalrymple’s profile of Banksy, the “anti-capitalist” millionaire and radical conformist.

Oh, and there’s some Norm in the latest post.

When transgressive art transgresses...

Truly "speaking truth to power" and "power" did not like it one bit. Ferchrissake, 2 years in prison?

Bloody brilliant ephemera this week. All the pingpong videos are worth a look .. the first in this series was my favourite
