Tiny origami robot folds itself, performs tasks, dissolves into nothing. // The road to success. // Days of future past. (h/t, Pootblog) // Eco-pod. You want one and you know it. // Plants and mirrors. // Cloudreporter. // Here’s some weather in a box. // Balloon creatures. // Hot dog style guide. // I think we need more logos. // A map of horror movie locations. // Odorous alarm clock. If you’re going to wake up to a smell, why not make it one of these? // Octopus lugs coconut shells. // It’s probably best not to try this at home. // Avengers interface porn. // At last, a 10-storey urban playground. // Smart device gesture sensing. // Done with magnets, marbles and sand. // Oh dear, something is sucking the eggs. (h/t, Julia) // And finally, I’m having second thoughts about this cunning plan.

The City Museum is really a treasure. Kids go nuts NB, it's art which is self-sustaining. Official Website.

Mattress Girl does a porn. There are no words to describe the vid itself except to say she seems to recreate her own rape. The temptation is to say that this psychotic person is sick, which is likely true. But what does it say about a society in which either no one discovered this mental disaster before 2012 or failed, from parents to beyond, to communicate the concept of boundaries?

Obviously nsfw. All presumable trigger warnings apply.

Siiiiggggghhhhhhhhhh.

I keep having to work around idiots like this . . . especially when things have broken again, and the frantic chorus is that No, things have Not broken, everything remains flawless and ever improving!!!!

David

Obviously nsfw.

Judging by the Tumblr and Twitter accounts of SJWs, mental illness is the new must-have accessory. I lost count of how many times “depression,” “self-harm” and “mental health issues” were mentioned as both an interest and a fascinating personal quirk. It’s practically a credential, something to display. Apparently, you’re nobody without a disorder to brag about, preferably an outlandish one. The assumption seems to be that pretending to be unwell will make them interesting. It’s like the goth kids from South Park, but with more psychodrama.

Hal

Octopus lugs coconut shells.

But what is the water speed velocity of a laden octopus?

rjmadden

If you’re going to wake up to a smell, why not make it one of these?

You should work in advertising, David. :-)

All that time travel really took its toll on Hugh Jackman.

So you wake up to the smell of bacon and eggs, hot croissants and a cup of coffee and find that if you want to consume these wonderful things you have to make them yourself?

Hide cat! Hide!

David

Hide cat! Hide!

Yes, it only creates the illusion of a wonderful start to the day, thus leading to crushing disappointment when you actually get up.

A colleague sent this to me this morning:

Oh dear, something is sucking the eggs.

Tip for the day: If you keep your eggs in the fridge the snakes can't get 'em.

Mattress Girl

If anyone visiting blog sees this message and happens to have an understanding of the law, can anyone explain to me how Sulkowicz has not been pressed up to 'Carry that Weight' all the way to prison?

Seriously, how can her actions not fall under the legal definitions of stalking and/or harassment of Nungesser (the alleged 'rapist')?

If they those definitions don't apply to this case, should the law be changed to accommodate them?

If I were to walk around the neighbourhood where Sulkowicz lives with a big sign-board that said, I don't know, 'Sulkowicz is a liar' or whatever, surely I would be arrested or issued with a court order requiring not to go within 10 miles of her whatever.

Or am I being naive here?

David

Last I heard, Mr Nungesser was suing Columbia University, citing the university’s own rules regarding “gender-based harassment.” It must be distressing enough to be falsely accused of rape by a woman with serious mental health issues, but to then see your slanderer being indulged by the university and awarded course credit for continuing to slander you is, I think it’s safe to say, a bit much.

Mattress Girl's numerous credibility problems.

David

Re the “Mattress Girl” saga, Ace of Spades does a pretty good parsing of her bedlamite conceit:

It is difficult, at this point, to believe that Emma Sulkowicz is anything more than what she appears to be, a liar and lunatic… If you watch this video “without her consent,” you’re raping her. A video she’s putting up herself -- not something hacked from her account. And what constitutes “consent”? That you watch it on the terms she demands, in support of her beliefs. That is, if you emotionally affirm her, then you have not raped her. If you do not emotionally affirm her, then you have raped her, even though she has quite clearly given her consent. She’s just deciding that your lack of emotional affirmation can invalidate her consent (and thereby render your own actions “rape”).

There’s plenty more at the link.

R. Sherman

I've read through Sulkowicz's site now several times. (I did not watch the video.) As for her writing, I've encountered more meaningful, lucid and philosophically consistent prose at the Post-Modern Essay Generator.

A short film which is actually better than Mattress Girl's effort.

Eco-pod. You want one and you know it.

Watch that third step, it's a doozy.

On a positive arty note, and guessing possibly in the vein of UK art subsidized, caught this channel surfing last night. Yes, sad and somewhat depressing, but touched a chord with me. Perhaps you Brits have seen it. I thought it to be very well done for a short film.

And in the UK civil service, you're no-one unless your department has someone to brag about.

I give you... 'neuro-diversity'!

David

I give you... ‘neuro-diversity’!

So GCHQ needs more people who have either difficulty reading or physical co-ordination problems? I feel safer already.
