'Labour backbenchers had previously known Milne only as "that f***ing communist" who had for years been unflatteringly nicknamed "Shameless Bilge"... Former colleagues reveal how, despite his slight figure, Milne had a remarkable habit of refusing to give way in corridors. Over several years, his fellow journalists grew tired of his insistence that oncoming co-workers make way for him. Eventually, one snapped, telling his desk, "I'm not going to do it again. Next time he plays chicken with me, I'm not going to get out of the way." The whole office waited for the inevitable confrontation. Soon enough, it happened. As Milne walked down a corridor, the six-foot colleague approached from the other direction. They smashed into each other, sending Milne flying, along with the papers he was carrying. "Seumas was in shock," recalls an onlooker. "No one had ever done that to him before. He expected people to show deference to him. There was a horrible silence in the office. It was a moment that demonstrated how aloof he seemed from the rest of the working environment."'

Oh, very well done.

And then in turn; Thalberg refused to take credit as producer, and as a result his name never appeared on the screen while he was alive.

It’s how egalitarians roll, apparently.

That GQ article is superb!

Even Corbyn's visit to flooded villages in the north of England was handled with maddening amateurism. An advisor asked the leader's aides what he was going to wear, given the affected areas were submerged in four feet of water. "You're not going to send him wearing his brown loafers and that jacket are you?" Corbyn's team, according to those present, took offence and dismissed the question as flippant. Days later, a national newspaper published a story headlined "Jeremy Corbyn spurns wellies for brown loafers on visit to flood-ravaged York". "People will put up with the silly left-wing politics," says a leading MP, "but what they cannot abide is the incompetence. It's not as if they're not told about this stuff."

Bwahahaha!

Long time lurker; first time commenter here. David, has it really been 9 years? That's incredible. I've been lurking here a while and it never gets old. This site is one of my favorite on the internet. You and your commenters are a treasure. Keep it up! Where's that tip jar...?

David

David, has it really been 9 years?

I’m hoping there’s going to be cake when I reach ten.

That's got to be one of the funniest things I've ever read - from naive teen girl to shitlord in 24 hours. What exactly did they imagine was going to happen? I mean, you'd think people at Microsoft would be at least somewhat familiar with the internet (shakes head in wonder).

I have seen that Scott Sterling video about a half-dozen times and it still makes me ROTFL.

Filmed at my alma mater, that was.

My favorite Studio C sketch is Flirting Academy.

You mean feminists are wildly misinformed and/or inclined to lie?

I may need to sit down.

Mike,

Scott Sterling and his face of steel. I did laugh (poor chap).

If that was completely staged, I'm impressed. The blood looked real.

I played soccer as a youngster, and not being the most fleet of foot, I usually played goalkeeper... until the day I took two shots off the noggin. The first just made me angry, the second put me in the hospital with a detached retina.

dicentra

If that was completely staged, I'm impressed. The blood looked real.

It's completely staged by a comedy troop at Brigham Young University called Studio C.

"Scott Sterling" is played by Matt Meese, one of the producer/writers at the show.

They're all a bunch of Mormons. Who knew they could be that funny?

Spiny Norman

So how they do the shots to the face? Was that digitized? It looked awfully real. I was thinking, I know it's "staged", but why would someone volunteer for that abuse?

Spiny Norman

Oh, and I've never doubted that a Mormon could have a sense of humor. I had a Mormon friend in high school who as as much of a nut for Monty Python as I was. I would often start quoting a gag and she'd finish it. Some people thought we were weird.

mike fowle

Many thanks, dicentra. Had a feeling it was staged but very impressively down and very funny. I've had a look at some of their other videos - good stuff.

I don't know the inside story. I DO know that BYU has one of the best Animation programs in the country, so maybe they got some help. Or maybe the BYU Motion Picture studio has their own gadgetry. Prolly that.

37 million views and counting.

Well done, Studio C. Well done.

'[A] submarine surfacing in the Arctic Circle'.

OK, I admit. I muted the sound when watching the video of the USS Hartford surfacing, and then played the main theme of 'Ice Station Zebra'.

It fits it to a tee.
