That’s the glory of it. You don’t have to agree with the man to register what it is his presence brings to light on almost every campus he visits. A dumb and malevolent, and quite vicious, pantomime of piety. To borrow a phrase, you could think of him as a dentist’s plaque discloser. To borrow again, from I, Claudius, “Let all the poisons that lurk in the mud hatch out.”

Speaking of Milo, regarding his recent episode at DePaul, Milo protesters = troops hitting the beaches at Normandy.
Meanwhile an assistant professor at the same institution fails to grasp the fundamental concepts:
So by this logic, I guess it is OK to interrupt the entire grievance studies departments.
Posted by: Farnsworth M Muldoon | May 27, 2016 at 12:37
If one comes to a college to say something that has no intellectual worth can interrupting them be a violation of their right to speak?
The idea of Grievance Studies lecturers as the arbiters of intellectual worth is so perverse it’s funny.

"The trouble with socialism," Margaret Thatcher once famously intoned, "is that eventually you run out of other people's money." The problem with being a socialist, however, is explaining away the inevitable impoverishment and collapse — and worse — of countries that adopt it.

Unintentionally funny headline
Posted by: Ted S., Catskill Mtns., NY, USA | May 27, 2016 at 22:00
As Milo says, “One down.”
Literally the first three words in the article are:
A sociology professor …
It’s all just so drearily predictable that I half-convinced myself that it had to be too good to be true - that the reporter had got it wrong and she was from another Faculty.
But, no - a moment’s work on the Google machine shows that, yes indeed, "Shu-Ju Ada Cheng is an associate professor in sociology”
And if that wasn’t already cliched enough, the courses she teaches/taught on are, inevitably:
Sociology of Women; Sociology of Sexuality; Sex, Sexuality, and College Students; Sociology of Masculinity and Manhood; and Sociology of Sexual Perversion; Gender and Society; Sex, Sexuality, and Politics; and Men, Masculinity, and Power
You know, I’m really starting to think somebody should send a search party out for that 1 in 44 …

When I first started doing this, I’d occasionally receive emails or comments complaining that I must be cherry-picking these frauds and hustlers, and insisting that they must be vanishingly rare aberrations that I’d obviously spent ages trying to search out and had then framed in the worst possible light to make them sound foolish. And yet here we are, almost a decade later, with umpteen examples in the archive, and no sign of running out any time soon.

Thank you Anon. Finally! The long lost, never before seen, Monty Python scripts!
"Secret Life of the Human Pups is a sympathetic look at the world of pup play, a movement that grew out of the BDSM community and has exploded in the last 15 years as the internet made it easier to reach out to likeminded people. While the pup community is a broad church, human pups tend to be male, gay, have an interest in dressing in leather, wear dog-like hoods, enjoy tactile interactions like stomach rubbing or ear tickling, play with toys, eat out of bowls and are often in a relationship with their human “handlers”.
In the documentary, we see Tom, AKA Spot, take part in the Mr Puppy Europe competition in Antwerp, a mix of beauty pageant, talent show and Crufts; David, AKA Bootbrush, talk to camera in a leather dog mask; two pups walk through London pretending to wee on lampposts to raise awareness of their identity; and lots of men jumping up for “treats”, barking and wagging their mechanical tails."

Given the likelihood of recidivism, around 60% or higher, depending on the demographic, are law-abiding citizens supposed to gush with appreciation and buckets of cash immediately, or do they get a few weeks to see how things go? And what if they get car-jacked in the meantime? Are they still obliged to be thankful?

And speaking of Milo acting as a plaque discloser, here’s some ‘progressive’ student journalism. Apparently, it’s perfectly fine for a journalist to omit and dismiss a person’s pointedly stated reasoning as “beside the point” and as “shoddy logic” without knowing what that reasoning is, or how shoddy it might be.
Posted by: David | May 28, 2016 at 12:32
… emails or comments complaining that I must be cherry-picking these frauds and hustlers, and insisting that they must be vanishingly rare aberrations that I’d obviously spent ages trying to search out and had then framed in the worst possible light …
Such evasions are all too common:
- If you summarise what are sometimes quite complex issues down to a few key points, those points will not be addressed, refuted or even acknowledged, but simply criticised as an overgeneralisation (which is an incredibly silly criticism given that it must be obvious that a summary is a form of generalised statement by definition).
- If on the other hand you cite specific examples, those examples will not be addressed, refuted or even acknowledged, but simply criticised as cherry-picking.
In either of the two previous cases, you will generally be exhorted to ‘educate yourself’ - surely the most idiotic diversionary tactic ever - as inevitably you will be told that what you are criticising is not the ‘real’ Socialism/Feminism/Marxism/Frankfurt School/Bourdieu/Sociology etc., but some fancy of your own imagination. And all this, too, will generally be accompanied by attempts to mock, shame and humiliate you (while once again, not addressing, refuting or even acknowledging the arguments you’ve made).
The content of your points are irrelevant - the only criteria used to evaluate them is whether or not they will lead to “Progress”.
It’s all very dishonest, all very disheartening.
Still, on the bright side they do provide some often much needed light relief. And as you say, there is a plentiful supply with "no sign of running out any time soon."

> … here’s some ‘progressive’ student journalism.
I wrote the previous comment before watching the video of Eder Campuzano - he of “the Tweet aggregate” on Milo’s Oregon talk - just incredible: the evasiveness, the absurd gurning, the false - and totally irrelevant - equivalence between a report of Christians in America opposing gay marriage with Muslims in the UK wanting to outlaw homosexuality altogether, added to all of which is the Melissa-‘Hey-I-need-some-muscle-over-here!-Clickishness of the heavy set bearded guy (who looks eerily like Randy Hickey from My Name is Earl) who loiters in what is obviously meant to be an attempt to physically intimidate the interviewer.
It’s all very dishonest, all very disheartening.

I think what jars is the juxtaposition of intellectual feebleness and full-on self-satisfaction. But on the upside, thanks to Milo and others, this kind of thing is now being seen quite widely, and in many cases for the first time.

So...I have this mental problem where in everyday life I overestimate how much my perception of reality overlaps with most people, even most "rational" and "educated" people...so I often feel this need, socially awkward as it often is, to ask what may seem to be rhetorical questions, but ... It is generally understood, is it not, that threats of violence and the intimidation that stems from such, and even actual violence itself cannot be refuted and especially not repelled by the use of logic? Even in the airy-fairy world of make-believe, Spok had to pull the old Volcan grip thing at times.

It depends on what the logic is, e.g., as put by General Mattis to Iraqi leaders:
At the time the Iraqis in his AO saw the logic of that and calmed right down.
Posted by: Farnsworth M. Muldoon | May 29, 2016 at 17:34
Of course Tammerlain would have lopped off his head right there and sent it back in a box. Gotta know your opponent. Yet still there was the threat of return violence. As some thug is supposed to have once said, you can get more with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word. These thugs threaten violence and intimidation. All they seem to get in response is an argument, and even the arguments, the ones they are most likely to actually hear, are rather appeasing.

Whatever you do, avoid the US version like the plague, it is a shambolic copy of the UK version; the three dweebs they picked have no personalities, and less chemistry. Only one was a car guy prior to the show, and I doubt the other two have ever so much as changed a tire.
