Lifted from the comments, where Jen asks an inevitable question,
Does she think Israel is ‘whiter’ than Estonia?
Geographically and demographically, it’s all rather confusing. What with the violent logic of whiteness. But like so many others, the above isn’t a load-bearing statement; it’s just there for effect. To alert us to an eruption of wokeness, and therefore superiority. Eleanor Penny, by the way, is not only an editor for Red Pepper, but also a senior editor for Novara Media. Where socialists and feminists, and socialist feminists, rub their throbbing brains until something oozes out.
Via Obnoxio.
the violent logic of whiteness

Sigh.
Yes, it’s wearying. Imagine being the kind of person who, while watching the campy, trashy fun of the Eurovision Song Contest, decides to publicly assert their wokeness by regurgitating some convoluted reason to find it problematic.

It appears the concept of researching something before spouting off is as alien to this dolt as it is to her sister as this apparent Aussie informs her:
Oh well, it looks like the sisters Penny accounted for two seats on the short bus.

Eleanor Penny. Once again giving inadvertent evidence in support of my theory that "social justice feminism" is really the abolition of good manners in disguise.

As the archives here testify, it does seem to attract a high concentration of unlovely people. More than chance alone would seem to allow.

Socialist feminism is the reason men had to create the Patriarchy in the first place - to clear space for sanity and reason to take hold.
I denounce myself.

Given that Europe is an "imaginary community . . . sustained by the violent logic of whiteness," I assume Eleanor campaigned and voted for Brexit.

I confess I do like the phrase "violent logic of whiteness". I'm not sure if the full phrase or just "Violent Logic" would be my preferred band name.
It's a bit like a lyric from an Oasis song, in that it sounds like it ought to mean something but really doesn't.

Here I thought the whole point of being a younger sibling was the opportunity to learn from your elder's mistakes. Penny II presumably witnessed the unhappiness and loud-rattling void of her sister's life then nonetheless chose a battlecry of, "Hold my cosmo!"

What could be more campy and trashy than complaining about whiteness while watching Eurovision?
a song contest that was brought into being to prevent great power conflict
and sure enough there hasn't been one, the entire time Eurovision has existed. Well done!

As these allegedly diabolical institutions - the ones “sustaining the violent logic of whiteness” - aren’t actually specified, I’m assuming they include everything from post offices to the Chelsea Flower Show. To ensure the widest possible spread of all that lovely pretentious guilt, which both sisters wish to propagate.
What with white people sucking as a “collective social condition.”
And “every white person” being “personally complicit” in racism.
What, you didn’t know?
Posted by: David | May 13, 2018 at 18:23
But they're white. And I presume they're what y'all call middle class, which I think means they came from fairly well-off parents, and aren't struggling paycheck to paycheck themselves. So they're white and slathered in that stuff they call White Privilege.
So why haven't they donated everything they have to their friendly local PoC and offed themselves in an suitably eco-friendly way? It's a zero-sum game, after all, so less of them means more for PoC, yes?
I know, I know - off to the Scold-O-Matic 3000 with my sorry carcass.

I wonder if the Penny sisters’ podcast is still going. Dear lord I listened to one and half epidodes of that before deciding it wasn’t worth it even as a source of blogging fodder. Two empty-headed adolescents giggling at one another for an hour. Maybe I should check back, I was always hoping they’d do a show where they list all the rapists they’re friends with.

Much of my family are Mizrahi Jews in Israel who were originally kicked out of Arab countries. They look like Arabs, they cook like Arabs and they can speak Arabic. My understanding is that DNA genealogy shows little difference between them and the Iraqi or Yemeni societies they came from. I love the way "white" doesn't actually mean "white" when it's convenient for it..not to.
Posted by: dan | May 14, 2018 at 13:34
who were originally kicked out of Arab countries.
Most products of modern education would have never heard so much as a peep regarding the percentage of Israeli Jews who are refugees, or the offspring of refugees, from the Lands of Diversity and Peace.

“I'm not sure if the full phrase or just "Violent Logic" would be my preferred band name.”
It ocurred to me the other day that “Problematic” would make a great album title.
“Since she's listed as @eleanorkpenny, perhaps from this day forward she should be referred to as eleanork.”
I assumed Nork was her middle name.
“What with white people sucking as a 'collective social condition.'”
An oldie, but a goodie.
“I love the way "white" doesn't actually mean "white" when it's convenient for it..not to.”
There was a conversation in the comments at Instapundit about this recently. People descended from Spaniards are “Latin” and therefore not “white”. But actual Spaniards are “white”. As are the original Latins - Italians - and their descendants. For some reason.
One might almost get the impression they're making this up as they go along, to suit some agenda or other.
Posted by: Sam Duncan | May 14, 2018 at 18:09
Few "Latin" Americans are descended from Spaniards to any significant extent. The number of peninsulares who went to the Americas was very small (and almost entirely to men). You walk around the Yucatan and you don't get the impression that any Spaniards made it at all.
Central Mexico City is pretty "white", but the ethnic component of most of Mexico is overwhelmingly Indian. And Mexico was the country that got the most Spaniards. Further south you get more blacks mixed in, of course. Bolivia and Paraguay are almost entirely Indian.
You get a false impression watching TV and political figures, both of which are ridiculously over-represented by European looking people. I was impressed in my visit in Mexico just how racially unrepresentative their TV is.
The "Spanish" component of Latin America extends to language and, to a certain extent, religion. That's about it really. The Americans fought off the Spanish and Portuguese at the first opportunity and like it that way.
I reckon it is perfectly correct that the Latin American are not "European" in any meaningful way.
