We could, for instance, establish, on a level of 1-10, how indecent and distressing this thing here is, and whether it constitutes grounds for divorce.

Definitely a micro-aggression.

Definitely a micro-aggression.

It’s madness, I say.

I see an educated Pillock called Dr Pollack-Pelzner [Linfield College, Oregon] has stated that Mary Poppins contains a racist black-face scene because Mary Poppins [Julie Andrews] rubs or powders her face with soot during the song "Step in Time" with Dick Van Dyke: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6661605/Mary-Poppins-branded-racist-academic-blacking-iconic-sweeps-rooftop-scene.html

I guess the pretentious Dr Pillock-Poseur would consider these men to be racists too:

Are there any sane people living on the West coaast of the USA?

Oh., there's one or two of us . . . . more northern CA than southern, and there are parts of Washington as well . . .

Hal

And some of you may care to theorise about this other thing and how it came to be.

I'm going with boredom and not quite careful staging . . . that alleged soot pattern on the wall looks brushed in . . .

David

Dr Pollack-Pelzner… has stated that Mary Poppins contains a racist black-face scene

The earlier books, written in the 30s and 40s, did originally include some incidental but rather dubious racial caricatures, long since removed. But as Daniel pointed out recently, to a modern audience, the films have no such connotations. (The one racial detail I can think of in the 1964 film is the admiral’s reference to the chimney sweeps as “Hottentots.” The obvious point being that the admiral is a buffoon, a comedic relic.) To find the Mary Poppins films “troubling,” as Dr Pollack-Pelzner puts it, requires a certain amount of contortion and active grievance-seeking. Which woke academics seem all too happy to indulge in, if only to gain attention and justify their salaries.

We could, for instance, establish, on a level of 1-10, how indecent and distressing this thing here is, and whether it constitutes grounds for divorce.

It's to balance the box.

David

It’s to balance the box.

I see the benefit of an egg box that isn’t overly weighted at one end; but once opened, why keep the egg box at all? There’s generally a perfectly serviceable egg holder in the fridge door. From which, the exact number of eggs required can be transferred to a hob-adjacent surface - atop a piece of kitchen towel to avoid unwanted rolling, obviously. Said kitchen towel can subsequently be used to transfer the shells and any residue to the bin in a pleasingly mess-free fashion.

But I suppose some people just want to be savages.

Don’t keep your eggs in thefridge door. Too much temperature fluctuation. Leave them in the carton, as God intended, and keep it on the shelf.

WTP

I see the benefit of an egg box that isn’t overly weighted at one end; but once opened, why keep the egg box at all? There’s generally a perfectly serviceable egg holder in the fridge door.

Bingo. Given that there are (prime number) seven there is no OCD satisfying pattern anyway, thus a somewhat random scattering, like pebbles in a pond, can distract from the necessity. I know it's hard but I've found this a good place to start on my own OCD angst. Also, I believe on this side of the pond our refrigerator design folks have moved away from the egg holder in the door concept. Probably because it gathered flotsam and jetsam. Or because it requires a certain egg-centric commitment. And given our betters who decree what's good for us, there was an assault on eggs being bad, bad, bad a while back.

But I suppose some people just want to be savages.

Meh. We're a bit nonplussed about it.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

Meh. Given the attitudes of our current crop of billionaires, I'm beginning to think this would be a good opportunity for someone in the GOP to co-sponsor such an idea with AOC. Gates, Buffet, etc. are all good with a slow bleed of us proles. I say let's get on with it. It's the slow boil of the frog that will kill us anyway, but they'll peel those of us at the bottom off first. Why not just push legislation right on through to flush those bastards out, especially their billionaire fellow travelers who keep hush-hush about it. These billionaires, with all their...billions...depend on those of us doing well but barely staying one step ahead of the socialists to do the heavy lifting. The donating, the political fighting, etc. F 'em. I'll even volunteer a slogan for the effort, free of charge. "There is a great deal of ruin in a nation. Let's get on with it!"

Steve E

Given that there are (prime number) seven there is no OCD satisfying pattern anyway...

David

[ Returns from fridge, having checked that the eggs are still correctly aligned. ]

WTP

With 7 eggs you have the beginning of a fibonacci sequence: 1,1,2,3

True. But given the limitations of the container, I'm not seeing how you could:
1) Arrange the eggs such that the sequence is clear
while also satisfying:
2) maintaining some balance of both the eggs (by mass) without creating some other OCD problem

Example (key being E=egg, X=empty space):
EXEXEE
XEEEXX
or
EXEXEE
XXEEEX

Unless there's some other arrangement that meets requirements 1 & 2 that I'm not seeing.

Yes. Yet oddly it doesn't seem to apply to the way I use language in my posts. At least not until after I hit the "Post" button. And no, "Preview" doesn't seem to help me that much in this regard. I think it's the lack of commitment that I subconsciously find contemptible.

The most frightening thing is that these loons are serious.

WTP

The most frightening thing is that these loons are serious.

What is more frightening to me is that we paid for their "education" and we continue to pay to pump this BS into the heads of young people such that they really believe this crap. Serious young people believe this. They might not be all-in on proposals such as this right now but given the proper social pressure, over the proper amount of time, even the "conservative" young will fall in line. That is what is frightening. There is a great deal of ruin in a nation. Let's just get on with it. The sooner we get there the sooner we can get back.

Doubting Rich

Does anyone else leave the eggs in the box to keep the C of G as close as possible to the centre of the box? Of course it's not always possible with a 6 or 12-egg box to have it on the centre. With a 15-egg box you can always do it, but then I have to try to minimise the moment of inertia too, by keeping the eggs as close as possible to the C of G.

David

Does anyone else…

It’s all coming out now.

Sam

@WTP

Keep the faith, brother! The war for civilization is fought on many fronts, and wins from Team Sane are basically invisible while losses are front and center in our minds.

Never forget that the internet rewards stupidity and our society is still learning how to deal with this damned thing. We see dispiriting, tyrannical idiocy every day but the strong and wise are numerous and still have something to say. I often feel as you've expressed and want to burn the whole thing down and start anew. And, while a shooting war is still an even bet, we cannot lose hope.

This fight will never end or lessen. The price of freedom, despite popular belief, has not dropped to "$1.05", but remains "eternal vigilance".

WTP

Does anyone else leave the eggs in the box to keep the C of G as close as possible to the centre of the box?

This. I'm a bit irritated on this subject as late last week I was taking the 18-egg carton out of the fridge and damn near lost the remaining three as what small-ish item had been sitting on top slipped forward so as to add further weight to the front-loaded egg carton, which given the unexpected (to me) weight distribution nearly ended on the floor. As I was unable to immediately locate a rod smaller than the size of my thumb, I decided to just let it go.

Pogonip

Listen up, everybody. This is how you place your eggs:

1). Remove carton full of eggs from grocery sack.
2). Check weather, paying particular attention to humidity.
3). Open fridge door.
4). Remove curious cat from fridge he just climbed into.
5). If ambient humidity is over 20%, move carton of Greek yogurt you bought because it’s In, but that nobody ate, 3 inches to the left. Move bottle of kombucha, that you bought because it’s In, but that nobody ate, two inches to the right.
6). Remove cat from fridge. Offer cat Greek yogurt.
7). Cat having fled to hide under bed, align eggs along magnetic north-south line.
8). Consider cleaning out fridge.
9). Come to your senses, close fridge, and go read David Thompson.

David

8). Consider cleaning out fridge.

No, all wrong.

1. Go to grocery store egg section.

2. See eggs, remember that anything that comes out of a combination vagina, rectum, and urethra is not not fit for human consumption.

3. Go home, throw egg holder in fridge away, put something edible in the now free egg place. If egg holder is molded in, use it to store loose change and/or ammo.

WTP

Spiny,
That's a fav of mine as well. But as you say, I doubt it would be appreciated. Or even understood. I mean of course they would understand the meaning of the words but how such a thing could come to be is hard to for them to swallow. After all, such a theme has not appeared in their literature. My first youthful encounter as a twenty-something with Mencken's observation that "The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it" took a while to sink in. I fear I've become more cynical than HLM in that the "almost always" seems rather generous to me. To save (or more accurately help) individuals or small groups, OK. Noble. But those with The Grande Idea To Save Humanity I don't trust in the least.

Sam,
This fight will never end or lessen. The price of freedom, despite popular belief, has not dropped to "$1.05", but remains "eternal vigilance".
Agree but my concern is that the vigilance is lacking. The more I speak with younger people, the more concerned I am. Yes there are a few exceptions. But I'm beginning to think that the sooner the Gods of the Copybook Headings have their say, the sooner we will get back to vigilance. We wouldn't be the first exceptional civilization to meet its end at the hands of those who fail to understand what makes things work.

Spiny Norman

In the article neurotic Nelly says:

I, on the other hand, started obsessing over it. I couldn’t be the girlfriend of someone who had an Asian fetish because that would make me complicit in a pattern that was rooted in violence and colonization.

Like the Asian lady who became my son's landlord at University said while my son and wife were having an emotional goodbye moment:

"Who care!"

Ten

Why not just push legislation right on through to flush those bastards out...

You seem to be under the impression that a so-called representative democracy is not actually a full-on ensemble of lying grifters trading favors and power for precisely as long as it takes for the structure under them to collapse from our willful blindness and sloth. And the grifting.

I bet you thought that was rhetorical.

It's the slow boil of the frog that will kill us anyway, but they'll peel those of us at the bottom off first.

That was sarcasm on her part. The rest is, admittedly, toxic neuroticism. Ironically, the proof that her husband does have an Asian fetish is that he's still putting up with this bint.

It’s not just neurotic women, of course. Men are also rendered neurotic by woke politics.

Neurosis is emotional energy, deceptive ideology gives it degenerate focus.

David

deceptive ideology gives it degenerate focus.

While parsing leftist outpourings, it’s a question that’s occurred to me repeatedly. When you read things like this, by Melissa Fabello, you have to wonder, did the intersectional ideology make her dysfunctional, or was she attracted to the ideology because she already was? In that, intersectional fretting seems all but designed to excuse and exacerbate a neurotic inclination.

Goodness, wonder the over/under of how long this relationship will last?

As most of the world now knows, that once-soggy, monochrome, conservative and somewhat provincial country known as Ireland has now become the Wokest Among All the Nations.

Our Progress (all bow) means of course that we are striving to be the most multi-cultural nation on earth.

One of the many things I had noticed appearing was the remarkable number of white male/ Asian female couples which appears to be a "thing" in formerly White European counties and, it would appear, in the USA as well. (by Asian I mean China to Japan, and all countries in between)

However I doubt that I have seen one white woman/ Asian male couple for every 10 of the reverse.

Any theories why? It is not old men and "postal brides". Most of the youngish men with Asian girlfriends that I would know of would be of the "woke" variety.

In comparison, the white male/ black female versus black male/ white female ratio seems much more even

(p.s. I don't care that anyone would fancy/fall in love with/ marry an Asian girl- I am just curious as to why this imbalance seems to be a phenomenon. It is not as if we have a shortage of Chinese males either)

Pogonip

After 60-+ years of modern feminism, we are told that girls are still “behind” in STEM. I
see 2 possible explanations:

1). Feminists have been too shy about getting their message out.
2). They got their message out, but people aren’t interested.

The government, colleges, schools, all communications industries, and a fair number of Protestant denominations are controlled by feminists and adhere to feminist principles. This was not true 60 years ago. Therefore, either:

1). Feminism is the right way to go. Feminists lead happier lives than non- or anti-feminists and things are run more efficiently than in the pre-feminist era.
2). Feminism is neutral and has had no appreciable effects on feminists or on anyone else.
3). Feminism is the wrong way to go. Feminists are unhappy, make everyone else unhappy, and under their rule society is fubar’d.

See which statement most accurately reflects what’s going on around you and you know whether feminism’s good or bad. This approach helps uncomplicate any -ism, not just feminism.

WTP

It is not as if we have a shortage of Chinese males either

And that’s all I have to say about that.

Revelino

Any theories why? It is not old men and "postal brides".

Steve Sailer's theory is that blacks on average are more "masculine" (bigger, cockier) than whites, and Asians more "feminine" (delicate, modest) than whites, giving black men and Asian women an advantage in interracial dating, and causing resentment in black women and Asian men.

Most of the youngish men with Asian girlfriends that I would know of would be of the "woke" variety.

Much of the "Asian fetish" I suspect is a traditionalist fetish, and not just among the postal bride crowd who might admit to wanting a traditional wife, but among "woke" men too who are very much in denial about their motivations.

Feminism brings up women to believe that it's empowering to create drama for their boyfriends, and it brings up men without any of the skills their grandfathers had to ignore female drama by going to the pub, or to put a stop to it by asserting themselves, or to deflect it with a Clark Gable smirk. A "woke" man who longs for a girlfriend who'll treat him kindly and with whom he can have a quiet life isn't able to acknowledge these feelings, because that would make him "intimidated by strong women".

Instead he finds himself strangely drawn to Taoism or Hokusai woodcuts and starts going to language lessons and making travel plans. The interest is genuine, but you can become intellectually interested in anything. The gravitational pull behind the interest is a great hunger for a feminine gentleness that's become discredited and shameful in the West, and a belief that Asian women are still brought up to cultivate those attributes.

Our Chinese-American writer has spent her life suspecting her boyfriends of motivations along those lines. Any instinct she has for gentleness and a quiet life with her beloved sets off alarm bells for her, and the need to stir up drama to recertify her feminist credentials.

Squires

What would make feminists happy?

For most, a spanking.

And I am serious.

Deadly serious.

Steve Sailer's theory is...

Two alternatives:

Feminist/Marxoid ball-cutting has less affected certain social aspects black male behavior vs. white male behavior.

Yet, at the same time, political machinery has not effectively degenerated east Asian and white families the way it has black family structures, the result being that being white and dating an Asian girl, or black and dating a white girl, is a safer bet than dating in your own race for either.

a different James

Much of the "Asian fetish" I suspect is a traditionalist fetish, and not just among the postal bride crowd who might admit to wanting a traditional wife, but among "woke" men too who are very much in denial about their motivations.

If I was in the market for a wife, I imagine that I might be attracted to Asian women for those reasons (being the last socially conservative man left in Ireland).

The young hipster/ student types however? I would have said perhaps the modern devotion to multi-culturalism etc predisposes them to seek out exotic partners.

That line of thinking however does not account for the extent of the white male/ Asian female phenomenon, so your explanation seems more plausible.

Now, how do I explain to my wife (a most non-deferential Irish woman) the inevitable bombarding of the family laptop with ads for Asian Brides?

Pogonip

Don’t even try, you’ll just get in trouble.

MC

how do I explain to my wife (a most non-deferential Irish woman) the inevitable bombarding of the family laptop with ads for Asian Brides?

Tell her the interwebs have identified your discontent, but that you are not actively shopping around.

I find myself slightly bemused by the whole 'Asian women are subservient' thing. People who say that ought to try dating a Hong Kong Chinese girl.

However, Asian women are more keen on marriage and family than drunken spinsterhood and a meaningless career in PR.

Pogonip

Asian women are, in general, feminine. Not their fault if Americans confuse this with subservience. Asians are also, in general, polite.

The above do not apply if the Asian attends an expensive American college; she’ll end up as obnoxiously indoctrinated as any American graduate of same.

Daniel Ream

we are told that girls are still "behind" in STEM

I've mentioned this before; my class of 1996 chemical engineering was about 35% female, which was the average for a decade or two. After twenty-five years of aggressively marketing engineering to high school girls, giving them no-effort scholarships and proividing all kinds of women-only support and mentoring programs, the percentage of women in engineering has dropped by about 30% (in terms of absolute numbers; it's about 20-25% in chem eng now).

By any evidence-based standard, what we're doing isn't working. Which is all you need to know about whether this was ever about getting more women into STEM in the first place.

re: Asian women

While I think there's something to the gravitational pull of the traditionalist woman theory, my personal theory is that it's basically just attraction to the exotic combined with millenials watching waaaaay too much anime.

Fred the Fourth

MC,
"Subservient". Oh yeah.
The lady i married, and a coworker, were happy to be known as those "tough Asian broads".

So, no.
