Persons wishing to learn more about the history of the Reagan administration might start with the writings of two repentant Reaganistas, David Stockman and Paul Craig Roberts. Another good work on the inner workings of U.S. politics is Secrets of the Temple, by William Greider.
Hey! We hit the century mark again!

Hmm... nothing about David Stockman being an Ayn Rand worshipper. Nor Paul Craig Roberts.
Granted, Alan Greenspan was well within Ayn Rand's circle. But even the Objectivists criticized much of Greenspan's tenure at the Federal Reserve on trying to manipulate markets through interest rates rather than letting them free.
Reagan tried his damnedest to put the brakes on a metastasizing deepstate. Didn't work.
Posted by: Darleen | March 31, 2019 at 03:30
Why, yes, I do get a bit cranky about my nation being destroyed.
(Anti-Rand) howling snipped. That pride may be somewhat out of proportion to the facts, especially the inherent evil of SS conjoined to its sacred but-I-paid-in! condition. Surely Ayn lived to personally regret that component.
And yes, self-employment is a particularly painful version of that theft. But we argued the sanctification of Personally Paying The Corporation's Fair Share a few weeks back so never mind.

Speaking of when it all went wrong upthread, it was by 1913. That not even half of rightists know this is concerning. Or why.

And foregoing taking the benefits will help or hurt the program? Don't make this a fight between generations and let the government off the hook.
Forgoing the benefits won't hurt the program. Accepting the benefits constitutes receiving stolen goods. The whole program is corrupt and *someone* is going to get screwed, regardless of whether the scam continues or gets abolished. That's how Ponzi Schema work.
If I had kids I'd probably just allocate my "benefits" to their retirement accounts, or whatever other instrument would allow them to get their money back without paying taxes on it again. Alas, I have no children, so I'm honestly torn as to what to do when I'm old enough to start getting Other People's Money. Probably put it into a fund to finance research into gerontology, or a scholarship in STEM. I've never planned on needing it myself.

We demons of pallor.
And so, the New York Times, a newspaper supposedly aimed at clever people, denounces fears of white minority status as a “racist, sexist doctrine” and a reprehensible “conspiracy theory,” while simultaneously publishing endless articles exulting in precisely that scenario and framed in overtly racist, anti-white terms, with “whiteness” disdained as a pathology, and with headlines that boast, “We can replace them.” (The rhetorical fig leaf here being that the term “them” supposedly refers only to white nationalists, but the implied definition is, shall we say, expansive and seems to include just about anyone who objects to white people being routinely demonised in academia, and throughout the leftist media, and, reliably, in the pages of the New York Times.)
As a snapshot of the ‘progressive’ worldview, or a very large chunk of it, it’s quite instructive. Again, you have to wonder how these people cope with the screeching mental feedback.

Sounds like Motte and Bailey. Yet again.
I'm surprised this dishonest tactic isn't pointed out more often.

Accepting the benefits constitutes receiving stolen goods. The whole program is corrupt and *someone* is going to get screwed...
Unless I defy all odds and live to be about 113, even though I could start taking SS now, I will never get back in Socialist Security that which was taken out of my pay, or which, even though retired from my day job, I continue to pay into via self employment tax for that work I do to amuse myself, and which bumps me up into the higher tiers of the Medicare "You make too much so pay us more" premium penalty.
To recap, I don't get back what I paid in or am still paying in for SS, I still pay in to Medicare both via tax and premiums plus the "You make too much" penalty. Yes the program is corrupt and a shell game, but the only "stolen goods" I am going to get back is like getting back my stolen car without the interior, doors, motor, windows, and transmission.

US government funding the Northern Pacific Railroad to the tune of $300 million back in 1870....or was it the Union Pacific RR scam of 1872? I want my money back from Credit Mobilier...the American one or the French one..wait...

Siiiigggghhhh . . . .
I keep watching left wing absolute shrieks---and equally matching mere right wing equally absolute shrieks---when it comes to bog standard storytelling in a library.
Let's look at what a kid sees.
Makeup, costume, prolly a wig, reading a book.
Now. From the point of view of, say, a five year old, what's the difference between either of an adult-dressed-as-a-clown and an adult-dressed-as-a-drag-queen, with either one reading a story.
Wellll, from the point of view of the five year old? It's storytime with someone in costume.
It's always the alleged adults---the extremists instead of the actual adults---making all the noise.
If the kids were objecting, then that would be the actual story that turns up . . . . .

One doesn’t have to be prudish or pearl-clutching to be unimpressed by the woke self-congratulation of Mr, um, Nightbus. And I’m not sure that it’s “vital” for small children, including children who may grow up to be gay, to associate the word gay with theatrical transvestism and bearded drag queens. Specifically, bearded drag-queen activists who smugly dismiss those who demur as “not… being part of the future.”
As role models go, I suspect there’s room for improvement.

oh good lord ... another variation on the self-congratulatory "right side of history" nonsense.

It isn’t the kind of thing that would leave me breathing into a paper bag, but it also doesn’t strike me as a vast improvement on being gay being associated with Larry Grayson or Dick Emery, or Mr Humphries from Are You Being Served?.

OTOH, as a model of what not to emulate, he is doing a bang up job.

Speaking of woke self congratulation, the right side of history, and being gay, Sofia is shocked at Hizzoner apparently being insufficiently gay.
You can't win for losing with these clowns.

Well, to present a cartoonish drag-queen outlier – a role generally regarded by gay club-goers as a form of entertaining grotesquery - as somehow representative of the (God help me) “LGBTQ+ community,” and also a “role model,” seems both self-serving on the part of Mr Nightbus, and generally, well… sub-optimal.

I watched Happy on Netflix yesterday.
Why do I get the impression that Mr. Nightbus, having never grown up into sane human being, isn’t too keen on any of the children doing so either.

Some of us would prefer that our children not be trained from an early age to see abnormal people as normal.
Posted by: pst314 | March 31, 2019 at 23:53
“not… being part of the future.”
To be part of the future one would seem to need a presence in that future. A presence which seems unlikely to stem from any part of the LGBTBBQWTF+-*/ "spectrum" as few, if any, members of said spectrum are likely to reproduce themselves.
Hence their insistence on memetic reproduction via other peoples' children.

Is this a Squires original? Don't recognize nor finding it in google search. If so, props dude. Maybe it's the martini, Jameson, cognac, and cigar combined with this Bruins-Red Wings games that I really don't care about except for the chaos, but that hit a sweet spot.
