Yay! Ephemera again! Thank you, David!

Is Elephant Gerald The Other Half? (Hi, Mr. Half! ✋🏽

TimT

I don't think so, Pogo. The Other Half did make one memorable visit to these parts, I seem to recall. I'd link it but it's lost in the mists of cyberspace.

Morning, all.

I think the woman was trying to eat live octopus on TV. Evidently, the creature had other ideas.

That’s a great documentary. Two hours well spent.

In terms of pacing and structure, it’s certainly one of the better ones, I think.

Given that the ladies’ ambition - and the purpose of the chart - is to “educate everyone on the insecurities that height can cause,” the disproportion is quite funny.

There are too many people in desperate need of attention and that's the source of a disproportionate percentage of problems.

That question goes back to when the first caveman had developed enough language to stck his head out the door of the cave one day and think,” You know., there’s got to be more to life than this.”

The crowds at the Brexit Party’s rallies do not seem especially fearful. Nor do they seem especially enraged. An honest analysis would rather surmise that they seem to be comprised of ordinary people expressing a wholly justifiable concern that for the first time in British democratic history, the vote we cast in 2016 appears not to be accepted by the dominant political class. Worse still, it appears that this political class is intent on stopping that vote coming into effect, claiming – essentially – that although there were indeed two options on the voting slip in 2016, only one of them was actually permissible.

Douglas Murray, here.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

The answer is not wypipo, the answer is Continental Drip.

As every schoolboyperson knows, north is up, and south is down. It can plainly be seen, and as illustrated below, the continents are dripping down, Central America and Florida from North America (we are hoping the latter drips all the way to Antarctica), India from Asia, Australia is dripping at both ends, Italy from Europe, and of course South America and Africa have large drips from the northern main mass, and so on.

QED.

David

In other news, the future of Salon is looking doubtful.

Can’t imagine why.

Windeye

north is up, and south is down

And cartography had been dominated by a sinister cabal of Greenland supremacists, until a courageous band of educators showed the world the truth - "When Boston public schools introduced a new standard map of the world this week, some young students’ felt their jaws drop. In an instant, their view of the world had changed." Not sure if that happened, but it would certainly be a scene in the powerful, inspiring film adaptation of the article.

The intention is to undermine the cultural confidence of Europeans who think that their way is the norm, sometimes because they're ethnocentric, which is racist when Europeans do it, and sometimes because Europeans conquered the world and set its global norms. But it's a mistake in terms of of the bigger goal of demographically replacing wypipo. For that purpose, it's a good thing if Mercator-deluded Europeans don't get the feeling yet of being small, peripheral, and fragile - they should believe for a decade or two more at least that their gigantic continent has plenty of room for the rest of the world put together.

Now police don't have to be 'fit or strong'? On a scale of 1-10 how f*cked is this country?

Oop

Now police don't have to be 'fit or strong'?

It's like the sexist trope of firemen rushing into burning buildings.

David

On a scale of 1-10 how f*cked is this country?

Readers may have seen various YouTube and Twitter videos of small female police officers being easily overpowered and laughed at by burly lawbreakers. The frequency of such interactions and the circulation of such footage seem likely to have unhappy consequences, not least in terms of demoralising both the public and the police, and encouraging more of the same. Hiring police officers who are physically unable to enforce lawfulness, even in pairs, or even in threes, and who are openly mocked by criminal thugs, is, shall we say, suboptimal.

But apparently, it’s more important to have women “in every role,” at “fifty percent,” because people mustn’t “see policing as primarily a male-dominated job.”

Again, honk.

Adam

Does this mean Alex Jones gets his media platforms back?

Sam

Dave Cullen spots yet another illustration.

Oof that was rough, and that's going in with low expectations. Hopefully this female swap gimmick will eventually play out, like spaghetti westerns and blaxploitation films. The genre is producing such utter schlock that I'm beginning to think it's actually anti-feminists making content to besmirch the movement.

For instance, I assumed as Gurl Power Lesbian Batman she would build her own batcave in a studio apartment or something, program all her own tech, make her suit so it would have no hint of sexuality, etc. But instead, the trailer shows her just fucking taking Batman's cave, demanding her safe beta token butler do all tailoring work on Batman's suit, and using frying pans to subdue ONE baddy. This is empowering? Boldly following the trail blazed by a man while spouting pure go-grrrl cringe with basic bitch femrock blasting?

Daniel Ream

Hopefully this female swap gimmick

It's not quite that. Batwoman has been around for quite some time in the DC Universe. This iteration appears to bear as much resemblance to the comics as the CW Titans show does to the source material, though (Starfire was cheesecake in the comics, but she was powerful and in control of her sexuality. Making her an angry black hooker seems...a step backward.)

I'm beginning to think it's actually anti-feminists making content to besmirch the movement

Yes, that's my working theory.

Alternatively,

As always, what’s striking is the casual arrogance, the sense of entitlement. As if even the idea of normal consequences were somehow outrageous. It doesn’t seem an optimal way to go through life. I live near a campus and therefore see plenty of things I don’t care for, ranging from the merely dumb to the morally deranged; but I don’t feel that I should therefore be free to steal or destroy someone else’s property, and then lie to the police, and do it all with impunity.

Oh, it’s worth watching and is certainly enthusiastic. But it does feature some of the most laughable accents, and some bizarrely variable acting, to say nothing of the tone. Oh, and Keanu Reeves’ randomly changing hair colour. There are some great shots and images, for sure – Dracula turning into a six-foot pile of rats lingers in the mind - but the whole thing’s a wildly uneven shambles. And camper than Christmas.

It has been noted before the similarities between the current SJW project and religious orthodoxy. It seems for Ms. Byerley, only Caucasians suffer from "total depravity" in the form of melanin deficiency. It is for her (and others like her) the Original Sin. Query, does she believe her "salvation" is a result of the "irresistible grace" afforded the "elect" like her, or is such grace "prevenient" and available to all of us if we can just see the light?
The "elect", like these Nice White Lady educational bureaucrats - "These decisions are being made because DOE leadership believes that skin color plays a role in how to get equity — that white people can’t convey the message". The message is an anti-white message, and its measure of sincere implementation is that there be more Black Bodies and fewer White Bodies in positions of influence, yet these ladies thought they could carry on "conveying the message" without it circling around on them.

jabrwok

"Skin color". So tired of the pretense that that's the sole defining characteristic of race. Might as well claim that, aside from coat pattern, all canids are identical and interchangeable.

Reproductive isolation + genetic drift + differential selection pressures = sub-speciation, IE race or breed. Skin color is just the most immediately obvious, visibly distinct characteristic differentiating the various races, it's by no means definitive. Sub-Saharan blacks, Australian Aborigines, and east Indians are all melanin enhanced, but no one (with a brain) will confuse one for either of the others. Likewise Swedes and Italians and Slavs, etc.

Yes, the races blur together at the boundaries, but so what? The electromagnetic spectrum does so as well, but red and violet are still distinct colors. Chihuahuas and Saint Bernards and Timber wolves aren't exactly interchangeable even though they can interbreed and produce fertile offspring.

I realize that "color" is shorthand, but I frequently think that many people have forgotten that and have decided that melanin count is the *only* distinction.

Ok, got that out of my system. Rant over.

WTP

hence it must take the Greek plural form.

Well who made that rule? I'm gonna continue to call them "octopi" and there's literally nothing you can do to stop me.

Under Carranza’s leadership, sources said, whites, in some cases, are being told they must give up power or lose responsibilities no matter how well they have performed.

More than a dozen high-ranking superintendents and deputies who had served under ex-Chancellor Carmen Fariña have been demoted — some with large pay cuts — or pushed into retirement, sources said. Others have lesser duties and new bosses.

[snip]

“White supremacy is characterized by perfectionism, a belief in meritocracy, and the Protestant work ethic,” the exec said, adding that whites who object when accused of deep-rooted bias are called “fragile” and “defensive.”

A common observation is "it's as if they want a race war."
But in fact they are already waging a race war, albeit with very limited use of firearms. It's just that one side has been mostly passive.

This also raises the perennial question: if American liberals are so moderate and reasonable--not crazed radical leftists at all--then why do they keep supporting and electing such extremists? The answer is left as an exercise for the reader.™ ;-)

Ten

As noted before, it’s funny until it’s sinister.

It's the blackest of comedy:

The crucial thing to understand is that motherhood is a very powerful ideological edifice. It’s not that there isn’t a massive hormonal kick that comes about after [conception], particularly during postpartum. There are endocrinal factors that make us high from the experience of caring for our neonates. But there is also a hell of a lot of ideology that makes us unable to comprehend that someone might not actually like mothering, and makes us unable to speak in slightly moderate terms about figures like Yoselyn Ortega, the nanny who killed the two babies in her care in Manhattan; that is the same case that inspired Leila Slimani’s book The Perfect Nanny. Even just talking about that excess, that monstrosity at the edge of maternal life, is surprisingly uncomfortable for our culture.

Dismantle family and you'll destroy civilization. Men with no acknowledged children have no stake in the future of their societies beyond their own lifetimes. I think our moral and intellectual betters would love a full-out shooting race war. The problem is the rest of the population isn’t interested, especially now that interracial relationships are common among the peasantry. Go into Nordstrom sometime and count the white women with white children in tow and the white women with brown children in tow. Then go into Walmart and do the same thing. And it’s the Walmart class that fights the Nordstrom class’s wars.

I think in another 30 years America will look much like Brazil does now. A small upper class, a miniscule middle class, and a huge number of desperately poor people. (This is already happening in Silicon Valley.). And there will be a fair number of black people, a small number of white people, and a big bunch of brown people. (This is already happening at your local Walmart.)

Ten

So it wasn't the 100 million or whatever murdered, the economic failures, the Orwellian societies, North Korea, Cambodia, China, USSR, Venezuela, etc. etc. etc. it was simply the pretentiousness of it all? Interesting.

Jeff Goldstein (of protein wisdom) has been on Twitter. In recent remarks about Alabama's strategy to force Roe comes some turd in his timeline who elects to endlessly parse the abortion problem - and ensuing debate - down to the relative brilliance of what is effectively Irish street law on the matter, versus the alleged horrors of State courts in the US as eventual legal reformers of constitutional, federalist, and functional travesties like Roe.

To reduce abortion to how you make legal sausage and by what democratic process you can cleverly re-liberalize it - and to reject and block any attempt to lend back some perspective to the core issue, which said turd does - reminds one of the above: The problem of 100 million innocents killed has little bearing, just as another enormous number of dissected human babies shall have no bearing.

It may all be pulled from the ass or Marxism but it screams of humanity's defining refusal to face whatever it insists on denying even if it's its own species. Which I guess are the same thing.
