Farnsworth M Muldoon

Woman in background muttering, "She doesn't have the same future...", yeah, about that...

We'll gloss over that the only ones scaring their kids about the future are the ones screeching about our certain doom ever 10-12 years every 10-12 years.

(BTW, thanks for not having that Disqus/Recaptcha horsecrap here)

Have we reached peak Silly Bint?

Like Peak Guardian, Peak Silly Bint is ever-receding and beyond mortal calculation. Like guessing the weight of an angel’s breath.

Speaking of protests, can someone explain just what the hell is supposed to be going on here, or is it just someone from the Ministry of Silly Walks demonstrating something new, maybe ?

Many are preparing to go on hunger strike so they need some food now...

Wait, what ? You just can't start, you have to gorge up like a bear preparing to hibernate (protip - it doesn't work that way in people), or just laying in stocks for the "hunger strike" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) ?

WTP

Many are preparing to go on hunger strike so they need some food now...

One of the ironies within the ironies, people so concerned and convinced about what the future holds don't seem to be able themselves to plan a day or two in advance, nor grasp the consequences of their actions on their very selves. Odd how often this sort of thing just happens to them. Heinlein observed that such things were once called "bad luck" but I'm sure today it must be attributed to something Trump did.

“What’s a nice lady like you doing buying fentanyl from drug dealers on the streets of San Francisco?”

An interview with Heather Mac Donald.

The article mentioned in the interview, the one involving the fentanyl, can be found here.

Sam

Yesterday I was enjoying the Missed Apex podcast whose Formula 1 discussions are always pleasant and wonderfully politics-free. When talking about how too many races a year would result in wives divorcing the mechanics, drivers etc (a mostly tongue-in-cheek observation) the special lady guest just had to make a "women hardest hit" argument. To wit: since women are more likely to take up childcare duties a packed calendar of races would discourage them from adding to the diversity of F1. To the guys' credit, they quickly move on without comment, but you cannot escape these idiots, can you?

Da

Absolutely (see, I knew that ancient civ minor would come in handy eventually).

These patterns are quite common amongst preliterate European cultures. There's some suggestive evidence that they were sometimes inscribed on the ground or the floor of a stone cave, and traversed as a form of ritual or worship[1]. The repetitive spiraling inward walk is quite calming, actually.

Neopagans have adopted Celtic labyrinths as a meditation/mindfulness tool. The thing is, you're supposed to walk them calmly and deliberately while focusing inward on yourself. These pretentious clowns are doing the typical neopagan "look at me, look at me, I'm sooo non-traditional and not-Christian and so much more earthy and virtuous than all you uptight straights" arm-waving. Motion catches the eye. You're less likely to notice them without the flailing.

[1] Maybe. There's a reason "if you don't know what it was for, it was probably ceremonial" is an archaeology joke.

Lancastrian Oik

....the one involving the fentanyl

Must have missed that particular episode of Friends.

Mrs. Oik and I were there in September 2017- the Embarcadero was fine but, sweet baby Jesus, the Tenderloin was nasty, as was some of the area up near the old Winterland on Van Ness and parts of Haight Ashbury. Five or six million bucks for one of those gingerbread "Victorians" when you've got schizoid junkies taking a dump by your front gate? I don't think so.

Other than block traffic and generally make pests of themselves, of course. You really have to wonder if these sorts of cretins really think their buffonish antics will actually do anything.

May contain nuts - The Guardian does a photo essay on arrested Exhibitionist Extinction Rebellion fruitcakes. Some quotes, as an amuse-bouche, as it were.

Hallam was arrested in 2017 for criminal damage when he and another person spray-painted “Divest from oil and gas”, “Now” and “Out of time” on walls at King’s College London, using water-soluble chalk-based paint.

Both were cleared of all charges by a jury in 2019 after they defended their actions as being a proportionate response to the climate crisis. [WTF, jury ?]

The Rev Sue Parfitt, 77, from Bristol...“Being part of XR I realised being elderly is a great privilege and we have to offer ourselves as arrestables and be on the frontline. We get our pensions and have no jobs or careers to worry about.

Bryn Raven, 75, retired English teacher, yoga teacher and shiatsu therapist...“I was thanked so many times by complete strangers for being arrested. I feel humbled by this...My grandson calls me gangster gran.”

Phil Kingston, 83, retired probation officer and lecturer in social work..."Whatever the future situation, I hope we will learn to live a very different way of life to what we have learned under capitalism.”

RTWT, as the kids say, and learn about our better and why there is a crisis in mental health.

I was skeptical about climate change, but now having seen the odd Swedish girl and these activists, I'm convinced by their calm, reasoned arguments and the dispositive data they proffer.

WTP

Every time they link climate change to capitalism it solidifies my belief that there's nothing there. The worst polluters in the world are and have been in the past the counties most opposed to capitalism. Yet these people don't harass those countries, they pick on people even when those people are doing the right thing.

At my previous job, millennial guy and x-ers that I worked with essentially ostracized me for saying, not that climate change doesn't/isn't happening, just that scientifically the conclusions were unsound. I was mocked with"Do you believe in dinosaurs, dude?" etc. during one discussion. Now millennial boy who most was all-in on this idiocy had traded in his Mustang muscle car for a Chevy Tahoe, just to drive his butt to work and back. Meanwhile, my Acura gets 30+ mpg. Similar BS from our x-er, quasi-commie lead who drove a big pickup (forget the model). These people are full of themselves.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

The proper way to deal with "anti"fa.

Unfortunately it was Portland, January 2017. Also happening in January 2017 the nitwit who gives stand-down orders took office as Portland mayor and police commissioner. I am sure there is no coincidence in the way "anti"fa riots are handled now.

It's almost as if the climate change is just a vehicle for agitation. Just like environmentalism generally, LGBTQ stuff, feminist stuff, BLM stuff, illegal immigration stuff, etc.

Here's the test: ask a liberal/leftist for his take on a news item, but first redact any political signifiers. They don't know which way to jump, unless they just resort to their prejudices, in which case it's easy to cross them up. The unvarnished facts do not suffice to let them make a determination; they need to know which way hurts America, the West, men, whites, etc. THEN they're either outraged, or understanding, as the case may be.

I once asked a liberal his take on a case in which several thugs beat up a college student as he left a bar.

He predictably plumped for the thugs - they were deprived, suffered from systemic racism, should be treated leniently and with compassion, went to poor schools, came from broken homes, etc. while the college student had white privilege (i.e., probably had it coming).

I then informed him - and gave him the link to the news story - that the thugs were white. The college student was black.

Did he learn anything? I doubt it. But if you have to know irrelevant aspects to decide what you think, you need to take a long look inside yourself, and then to realize you've swallowed agitprop hook, line, and sinker. You've been had.

pst314

Yet these people don't harass those countries, they pick on people even when those people are doing the right thing.

This is exactly parallel to what I witnessed with "peace" activists throughout the sixties and seventies and eighties: they always condemned America and the West, and never the Communist tyrannies. Eventually I realized that there was zero possibility that these people were sincere seekers of peace.

Interesting plant pot design. Described as a 'shape-shifting origami pot' that unfolds as the plant grows to accommodate the size of the plant.

They haven't changed for decades. Orwell, Notes on Nationalism (1945):

But there is a minority of intellectual pacifists, whose real though unacknowledged motive appears to be hatred of western democracy and admiration for totalitarianism. Pacifist propaganda usually boils down to saying that one side is as bad as the other, but if one looks closely at the writing of the younger intellectual pacifists, one finds that they do not by any means express impartial disapproval but are directed almost entirely against Britain and the United States. Moreover they do not as a rule condemn violence as such, but only violence used in defence of western countries. The Russians, unlike the British, are not blamed for defending themselves by warlike means, and indeed all pacifist propaganda of this type avoids mention of Russia or China.
