Progressives, 10 years ago: ‘It’s an outrage that women can claim they don’t want their male partner prosecuted for domestic abuse and the police listen to them! The State must act, and prosecute regardless, to send a message!’
Progressives, yesterday: ‘It’s an outrage that the State pressed ahead with a prosecution against this fragile beauty for domestic abuse! We must listen to the victim’s wishes!’
In examining ‘lawful excuse’ [to avoid successful prosecution under Section 137 of the Highways Act 1980 - willful obstruction], courts need to decide if an activity causing an obstruction is itself lawful and whether it is reasonable: in the case of a protest, taking into consideration Article 10 (freedom of expression) and Article 11 (freedom of assembly) of the ECHR.
Expect the police to do absolutely nothing to remove them.
Further to the above, and as illustrated here many times, it’s curious just how often woke ‘protest’ takes the form of what might otherwise be regarded as overtly and triumphantly anti-social behaviour, naked malice, even outright sociopathy. That the two should coincide so reliably probably tells us something about the kinds of people involved and what it is they really enjoy.
No pardon needed. If you’ve ever seen these clowns up close, you’ll have noticed that they tend to be a fairly specific, decidedly twattish, demographic.
Nah. It's not sociopathy. Sociopaths lack the social skills or understanding as to why their behavior is wrong. Sociopaths don't understand society. Sociopaths technically do not justify their behavior based on morals. This sort of thing is much, much worse. These people were created by our culture, our academic institutions, our news and entertainment media (blurred lines and all there), and much of the psychology profession, to become destructive tools. Sociopaths, for all their faults, at least do care about themselves. These people have been brainwashed into becoming creatures of their own destruction. I would say that the people who made them this way are sociopaths. Or even psychopaths. Especially many of the psychologists, who unlike academics, can do their nefarious work behind closed doors. We have a very nasty cancer in our society. The only hope is that people start to wake up, stop wasting their youth (and stop putting themselves deep into debt) in academic BS, and start thinking for themselves by getting their minds out of the Narrative.
Well, if your go-to solution to pretty much any ostensible cause is to screw over other people – whether by obstructing traffic, or immobilising trains at rush hour, or harassing random people, or vandalising their property – and doing it while visibly exulting in the power of mob coercion - then it seems to me that what you want is the thrill of behaving anti-socially, seemingly with impunity, and having power over other people. The rest is a glorified pretext, merely an opportunity.
The modern police farce aids them by...closing the roads.
Having achieved Brexit the UK citizenry (those on the saner side of the spectrum anyway) would be wise to begin cleaning their room in earnest. The plod seems hellbent on becoming the most wet, effete secret police* the world has ever known, consequences of which are unclear but not good.
*Maybe called "The Gazpacho", or maybe "The Brown Skirts"? Suggestions?
Despite the pretence of martyrdom and claims by the participants that they “do not enjoy” exerting power over random passers-by - or would-be passers-by - it seems quite obvious that personal gratification is by no means incidental. These disruptions and obstructions – forcibly immobilising large numbers of people - are very much recreational, a rush of ego, as bullying often is. Now imagine being so privileged, so removed from normal concerns, that being arrested is a form of recreation, a leisure activity, a way to impress your peer group and accrue status.
The thrill comes more from filling a hole. In any social group members attain status by contributing to the group's progress. Our institutions have denigrated any form of productive work. Listen to most music, hell look at the (God help me) "Bowling for Soup" video linked here recently. The (former) ideal of becoming a productive member of society is mocked even by lame conservative-leaning bands.
Debbie just hit the wall
She never had it all
One Prozac a day
Husbands a CPA
Her dreams went out the door
When she turned twenty four
Only been with one man
What happened to her plan?
She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass
On the hood of White Snake's car
Her yellow SUV, is now the enemy
Looks at her average life
And nothing has been alright
Well, who wants that life? Drive an SUV? Marry a CPA? Nah. That's for losers. You young people need to aspire to shake your ass on the hood of a rock star's car. Or BE the rock star! Oooh! Follow your dream! Which of course leads to failure. So what to do, what to do, what to do...Ah! You can Save The Planet! There you go. See, no sociopathy required. Not that it doesn't help. But many, many of the people in these groups, not the ones doing the anti-social behavior but the majority...those supporting it, cheering it on, are not getting satisfaction from their own sociopathy. They're getting it from the standard human, even mammalian social contract that runs much deeper in the human brain than the appearance of one-off sociopaths. While similarly juiced, it's actually a much more dangerous thing than run-of-the-mill narcissism. Though as you say, that is what is being fed. By the real sociopaths.
Why would the XR crowd venerate Newton's Tree while tearing up the lawn to demonstrate man's destruction of the Earth? Wouldn't it be more woke to cut down the tree to symbolize cutting off the root of the problem of Western (white) Civilization?
I suppose if they did that the local po-po would have to rouse itself and arrest someone, and the College administrators would have to make a show of condemning the act despite totally agreeing with it.
Wouldn't it be more woke to cut down the tree to symbolize cutting off the root of the problem of Western (white) Civilization?
Heh. Just wait until a few more alumni die off. Or at least that's how it will be done in the US. Though we rely on alumni for a lot of financial gifting/grifting. Don't know how important that is over yonder.
That's the Sofina Foods pork processing plant in my city of Burlington, Ontario. This group of "pedestrians" shows up once a week to harrass drivers. There was a recent lawsuit brought against the "protestors"--animal rights extremists. They were giving water to the pigs after stopping the vehicles. There were fears that the water may have contained poisons or other drugs.
Last time I checked, wilfully obstructing traffic was an arrestable offence.
Technically they're not on the roadway obstructing traffic. They're on a private driveway owned by Sofina Foods attempting to prevent access to Sofina's private property making this a civil matter of trespassing. The police are even less inclined to make arrests for trespass than they are to prevent traffic blockades.
The delivery trucks used to arrive at the same time. If the protestors were able to stop the first truck then traffic would back up on the roadway as a dozen or so semi trucks waited to get into the plant. Now the deliveries are spread out causing less congestion. Still it shows how the narcissists are able to force businesses to absorb extra costs and cause disruptions.
The plant has gone through several ownership changes in the last 10 years.
Stumbled across this on my lunch break: "Lecture: How the Cigarette Linked Jim Crow Segregation and Capitalist Imperialism" https://www.memphis.edu/calendar/index.php?eID=1184 (she's even got that lefty head-tilt thing down pat.)
I could have sworn tobacco cultivation predated Jim Crow by a couple hundred years. Wasn't it the Virginia Company or some such that in the 17th century established a colony in the New World to grow tobacco? I know, I know - 1619 and all that - but the original colonists were British and white. Or at least that's what I learned as a wee rat. I guess my learning's all wrong, and I am going to need a heavy dose of regrooving.
Their fifth album after having to replace the bass player because on the Asian tour for the fourth album he disappeared into a Bangkok brothel during a hard night partying with the roadie crew and their bus drove off without him because, him being the bass player, he often went unnoticed and thus nobody remember they had promised the road manager that they were bringing him with them. Rumor is he's now either a Buddhist monk in Kantharalak or the (ahem) 'madam' at a brothel in Malacca.

I actually knew some of those protestors (before I knew they were those protestors) and I think the chance of that is essentially zero. These loons treat the pigs like Hindus treat cows. That said, there's a good reason tampering with the food supply is illegal and they deserved the conviction.
Yes, that's the Harvester Rd. entrance at the South Service Rd. intersection. I had to drive by there a couple times a week during the winters to take my son to indoor baseball training. I'm not sure how recent that footage is though. You could probably get a video like that at least once a month.
There's another group of loons that gather outside the L3Harris Wescam building on the North Service Rd. a couple times a month to protest the fact that they make imaging equimpment for the military. That won't be for much longer though. They're moving the whole operation to Waterdown. L3Harris shares a driveway with my son's former primary school. Ironically, they weren't as militant. They never physically blocked the entrance.
I think the chance of that is essentially zero.
Agreed. I think they needed a better reason to stop them from blocking the entrance than trespassing.
