Concerned pet.

Well, that's certainly putting on the dog . . .

Hal

Headline of note.

Ehn, or more like bustline of note . . .

That list of Peel sessions is a mighty work! I have never been a big radio listener so didn't tune in as a youngster, but there's some fantastic bands there and a greater variety than I expected - thought he was all punk/indie but there's a bit of electronica and reggae too (including Misty in Roots, who I caught live at a festival a few years ago; one of the best live sets I've seen, even allowing for my substantially altered state at the time).

"And finally, a quiz for all the family..."

Damn it, Narmacil! I was on a winning streak until you showed up!

Lady Cutekitten of Lolcat

I missed 2 on the Tolkien game.

Daniel Ream

Star Wars, “The original radio drama,” 1981

Pirate rips of these were probably the most requested bit of digital media from my collection. Fantastic to see they're now freely available.

Liz

Antidepressant or Tolkien Character?

That's hard. :-)

Scenes.

The owl hoot is perfect.

Morning, all.

The owl hoot is perfect.

It’s the icing on the uncanny cake.

Assorted Peel Sessions

God I hate it when people lovingly produce alphabetical lists, but put (for instance) "The Cure" under "T" rather than "C" where they should be!

I regularly used to swap my cornflakes for the dog’s Winalot until I was about 7...

As a wee seedling, I did once cause consternation when found stuffing my face with dog biscuits.

George

I dare to hope that, like me, you did draw the line at Lassie Meaty Chunks

George

... although I do have some questions about the cottage pie on the bar menu.

David

They were bought in bulk, in a big sack, and stored in what I suppose was called a pantry. Seeing the dog enjoying them, and being a wee seedling, I went to investigate. I vaguely recall they were quite savoury. But the fussing of the adults, and warnings of imminent doom, deterred me from any further investigation.

Crank the volume for some inter-species punishment.

Dear Wife (pbuh) is giving me a meaningful look.

LOL Brilliant.

Angela Lansbury paired with teapots.

That's so good. :-)

David

That’s so good. :-)

If you scroll to the end, there are links to other pairings. But the Lansbury thread just sort of works because it’s, well, Angela Lansbury. And some of the matches are quite precise.

So I was looking at the aerial photos of farmland and as I scrolled to the end I was greeted with the legend:

"Become a Colossal Member"

So I was just wondering if anyone had tried this.

(Asking for a friend.)

At last, iridescent chocolate.

Yes, because they really must make chocolate look more appealing if they want it to take off.

Some of the replies to this are quite something to see.

“His is better than yours.”

I may explode from envy. I like my driving games, but I'm stuck here with a 1280x1024 monitor and an XBox360 controller with a dodgy cable.

“Assorted Peel Sessions.”

Ooh, nice. Where else would you find Queen on the same list as The Fall, The Future Sound of London, and the Zimbabwe Cha Cha Cha Kings?

I don't want to risk my mysterious secret identity, but one of my brother's best mates is on that list. In fact, I'm surprised his band only features once; they did a ton of 'em. (My brother's claim to fame is that Dannii Minogue once sat on his lap at one of his friend's after-shows. So, as you can imagine, I'm no stranger to crushing envy.)

“but there's a bit of electronica and reggae too”

Yeah, he got quite heavily into electronica in the '90s. I think I discovered the Warp label through the Peel show. (Oh, and looking through the list, definitely The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa. I'd forgotten about them. Was there ever a more Peel-esque band name?)

“Angela Lansbury paired with teapots.”

Well, that's... peculiar.

David

Can I suggest that you read Richard Murphy tax research uk

I may have dislocated my jaw with laughter.

David

Some of the replies to this are quite something to see.

Tim Worstall’s archive, linked above, features Mr Murphy’s ongoing struggles with coherence and rudimentary facts. If you like what I suppose might be called inadvertently comedic economics, there’s plenty to poke at. If not, it’s just worth noting that Mr Murphy is the kind of chap who feels comfortable announcing in public that he will no longer “tolerate… those that seek to oppose my views.”

Hmmm.

. . . no, not a comment on the Archbishop, I thought I'd see what a bit of Googlemancy had to say . . .

Oh, very nicely done. Especially the bagpipes.

” But the Lansbury thread just sort of works because it’s, well, Angela Lansbury. And some of the matches are quite precise.”

The brief all-caps rant in that thread re: Mrs Potts is worth the price of entry alone.

Angela Lansbury paired with teapots.

Ugh, again?

David

BBC only hires the best people.

And so, a suitably woke BBC-employed historian denounces “virulent class prejudice” as a self-evidently bad thing, and then, in the very next tweet, is publicly amused by the thought of “rich, white, middle-aged men” being killed in disproportionate numbers. And when people point out this contradiction, with varying degrees of liveliness, she doubles down and dismisses them as “right-wing” crayon-eaters. Presumably on grounds that no-one else, none of her enlightened leftist peers, would see a contradiction.

Wink, wink, indeed, madam.

WTP

I may have dislocated my jaw with laughter.

But that's effectively what they taught in (Keynesian) economic classes 30-40 years ago when I was in school. Granted they did a little better with the hocus-pocus, presto-changeo lingo, yet they still had the cajones to call it the 'magic multiplier'.

David

BBC only hires the best people.

I think we’ll give that one a short post of its own.

"How Countries Fight Their Wars..."

How clever was that. Excellent link, thank you.

The only Peel I ever cared about was Emma Peel.
