That's no way to treat a book.

David

That’s no way to treat a book.

It’s no way to treat an audience. Even one for performance art.

WTF is that thing on the rail that looks like a boot coming out of the back of a goose?

Probably a boot coming out of the back of a goose. Underestimate these people at your peril.

Darleen

A book of blank pages - oddly apropos.

It might be a copy of this...

David

One for the ladies.

Squires

During the last decade I uploaded a considerable number of photos, a lot of writing, and a small number of videos, all under personal accounts that I made no effort to promote.

Ms. (I assume) Schaefer is supposedly a professional artiste, with some manner of institutional backing, and very much going with the flow of her disordered little segment of society.

How is it then that her published, ahem, “works” attract fewer views on average than my own avocational nonsense?

It occurs to me that not even the people who orbit in the pretenses of this sort of wankery are inclined to waste their time looking at it, least of all when they cannot be seen doing so.

David

Ms. (I assume) Schaefer is supposedly a professional artiste,

An award winner, no less. For “artistic excellence.” And a recipient of the Boston ICA’s 2015 Foster Prize - being described by the ICA’s senior curator as “amazing,” “compelling” and yet inexplicably “underfunded.”

Ms Schaefer has, of course, taught those less gifted than herself.

Ms. (I assume) Schaefer is supposedly a professional artiste, with some manner of institutional backing...

I would not be surprised to learn that she has a government grant to develop her silly walk.

Governor Squid

One can only assume that this is our punishment for coming up short on the fundraising goal.

I know that threats of extortion are beneath the dignity of our gracious host, but for the love of all that is holy, David -- just give us a target and we'll move Heaven and Earth if it means no more exposure to Sandworm Schaefer.

David

just give us a target and we’ll move Heaven and Earth if it means no more exposure to Sandworm Schaefer.

[ Starts flicking through upscale shoe catalogue. ]

Jonathan

I found myself profoundly moved - to make myself a large G&T.

ComputerLabRat

I'm surprised she hasn't tried to capitalize on the current zeitgeist and make this about Black Lives Matter, or maybe narrowed even further to Black Trans Lives Matter (that was linked here earlier, in another context).

She's not kneeling to or bootlicking, or feet washing her betters - just being white and prancing about with a white book. Can I safely dismiss her now?

pst314

They came willingly. They deserve it. Or are they students who will get downchecked if they don't attend?

Sue Sims

Audience? Have I missed something?

BTW, David, you've been pinged. I've been fascinated recently by some of your blessings upon those who contribute, which seem to cast light on the home life of our dear host, and am waiting impatiently to see what further insights may await your patrons.

David

BTW, David, you've been pinged.

Bless you, madam. Having cleaned the bathroom mirror, may you never discover, minutes later, that your significant other has adorned it with a fine spray of toothpaste.

Darleen

more of the Earth-trembling . . .

David

which seem to cast light on the home life of our dear host

It’s even more thrilling and glamorous than it sounds.

No, really.

Ms Schaefer has, of course, taught those less gifted than herself.

I don't think it quite coincidence that this made me think of The Walrus and the Carpenter.

Hal

??? Test, test.

What does This look like???

Hal

'k, of the above, dunno what may have been visible on David's end, but I got a puddle of italics, or an extanded link, or sumpin' . . .

David

I got a puddle of italics, or an extanded link, or sumpin' . . .

You buggered up the close italics tag. Being the gracious host, I fixed it discreetly.

Well, not discreet now.

sk60

Well, not discreet now.

David

Heh. I don’t just stand here wiping the bar, you know.

Ferrari, famous bastions of moral propriety, has decided that their Driving Academy is "not just purely and simply about selecting the best drivers, but also working on their cultural, technical and ethical education".

Personally I'm comforted to know that Ferrari is leveraging its unimpeachable culture of fair play to fill in the ethical gaps these lucky youths' parents carelessly neglected. That the fine gentleman of Maranello, Italy will have an opportunity to share their wisdom on the specter of male privilege with teen girls desperate for a driver's seat is particularly edifying. All in the service of equality and diversity and perhaps rocking that Patriarchy boat a bit, of course.

For instance, here is Ferrari F1 team principal Mattia Binotto sharing some of the wisdom we can no doubt expect from the program:

“We felt we had to make a further effort to expand our area of operation to include female youngsters who want to get on in motor sport. Although there is no actual barrier to their participation, we are aware that it is harder for women to progress in this field.”
Governor Squid

“Although there is no actual barrier to their participation, we are aware that it is harder for women to progress in this field.”

I'll have to ask the Lovely Bride if the Needlework Guild of Minnesota offers scholarships to young men, given the appalling underrepresentation I've seen at their various functions.

It's just awful, the way that men are expected to confine themselves to the golf course or the fishing boat. I don't know how these guildwomen can sleep at night, knowing how much they contribute to such suffering...

Hal

Well, not discreet now.

Bingo!

Given the timing and results I was seeing at the time, I did wonder if we were both putting in a fix at the same time . . .

Trevor

Heh. I don’t just stand here wiping the bar, you know.

You wipe the bar? With what?

Hal

You wipe the bar? With what?

Now, now, that sausage roll has to get fed somewhow . . .

Hal

. . . but also working on their cultural, technical and ethical education.

When I read of the concern for ethics, and Ferraris, of course these were the automatic first thought that came to mind . . .

NTSOG

Ferrari: “We felt we had to make a further effort to expand our area of operation to include female youngsters who want to get on in motor sport. Although there is no actual barrier to their participation, we are aware that it is harder for women to progress in this field.”

There was a young woman, Renee Gracie, obviously skilled, who raced 'super cars' in Australia. She has changed careers recently:

https://www.foxsports.com.au/motorsport/supercars/historymaking-v8s-driver-renee-gracie-shocks-sport-by-turning-to-porn/news-story/2a0114eb349071c49efdaee7e0aae9c9

I guess she's a 'liberated' woman and being a real woman makes it easier to pick up work on the side - or on her back - and "progress in this field".

Re: the original post - I'm not looking and you can't make me.

Re: Renee Gracie, bring me my google!

Felicity

I know well the embarrassment of italic shaming. The rickety stool with two legs is very uncomfortable.

Daniel Ream

She has changed careers recently:

“It has put me in a financial position I could never have dreamt of"

I expect she's going to be put in a number of previously undreamt-of positions.

There's a video floating around on YouTube of other drivers forced to share a track with Danica Patrick and their unfiltered exclamations about the state of her driving.

Jay Guevara

As Gore Vidal said of the Rockettes, no talent is not enough.

Re: the original post - I'm not looking and you can't make me.

It's garbage, but at least she keep her clothes on. This time...

Cloudbuster

That White book is racist. She must be canceled.

Cloudbuster

There was a young woman, Renee Gracie

Her face in the photo at the top of that article looks like a RealDoll.
