We got email at work today that we are required to undergo training against "unconscious bias". I have no input whatever into hiring decisions and told them years ago that I would resign if required to be a manager. This is such a waste of time, not to mention incredibly annoying.

pst314

we are required to undergo training against "unconscious bias".

That's the training where your claim that you are not a racist is proof that you are a racist. Zero evidence for that fraudulent product of a corrupt academia.

I wonder what percent of corporations are now going to impose this sort of evil filth on their employees.

WTP

Just went out to Indeed.com to look for work. Was met immediately with a banner regarding how they support Black Lives Matter. The failure of normal society to support and stand by George Zimmerman was the final straw getting us here. Yes, it took another 8 years but they forced you to swallow their lies. Be prepared to swallow more. Cowards.

Fortunately we're working from home and I helpfully said I would not return to the office until there was a vaccine against COVID-19. In other words, never. So it will be all online and I will do my best not to interact at all, which is my standard way of dealing with meetings.

This city disbanded its police department 7 years ago. Here's what happened next

Now, seven years after the old department was booted (though around 100 officers were rehired), the city's crime has dropped by close to half. Officers host outdoor parties for residents and knock on doors to introduce themselves.

Carrot "Head Banger" Ironfoundersson

Carrot joined the Night Watch while it was still only a small group of miscreants running from evildoers rather than trying to subdue them. He initially had some difficulty with this attitude, as his "old-fashioned" view of justice led him to arrest the leader of the entirely legal Thieves' Guild on his first day. He since seems to have learned to understand the city a bit better. The city learned about him as quickly when he single-handedly survived a fight against every miscreant in the Mended Drum tavern—including the then-splatter (like a Bouncer but harder) Detritus the troll.
. . .
. . . it is noted that Carrot has added some supplementary questions to the quiz machine in the Mended Drum, asking players who was responsible for certain recent crimes and frequently making arrests as a result.
. . .

Carrot is also famous enough in the town of Ankh-Morpork that there are Carrot Ironfoundersson action figures in production, sought after by children.

A coincidence, I’m sure.

Thing is, the series was often interesting not because of the behaviour of the officers, but because it revealed the behaviour (and demographics) of the criminals.

His father long ago decided he didn’t want to perpetuate stereotypes, so he insisted that the show feature as many white people being apprehended as people of color.

I'm certain that the murder of Justine Damond by Mohamed Noor (a Somali immigrant and affirmative action hire in the Minneapolis Police) passed without notice.

For the most part, it did, in the mainstream media complex, anyways. The Aussies weren't too happy, and I think local memorials were held for her, an actual innocent person. But her epidermis had too little melanin for her life to matter, and the poorly trained idiot with anger management issues had plenty of it, plus he worshipped the only Approved religion in the secular lefty world, so it was under the rug with that inconvenient mess.

There may even have been talk along the lines of "she shouldn't have been outside after calling the cops" or some such she-brought-it-on-herself excusing of Noor's behavior.

David

His father long ago decided he didn’t want to perpetuate stereotypes, so he insisted that the show feature as many white people being apprehended as people of color.

Which rather sounds like a roundabout admission of The Unspeakable Statistics. And despite these efforts, it was still quite striking which demographics are more likely to resist arrest, often with great physical enthusiasm. It was practically a drinking game.

Adam

Note that Camden NJ did not "do away" with policing or defund the police. They closed the department temporarily and reorganized it to get rid of corruption. They implemented some sensible community relations efforts that are used my many other PDs. The officers shown wear badges and emblems reading "Police". Camden does not send social workers as first responders to emergencies. The article makes a good case for police reforms favored by the Minneapolis Mayor Frey rather than the dismantlement pushed by the Minneapolis City Council.

pst314

“For the most part, it did,”

Nikw211

From Thucydides's History of the Peloponnesian War (my emphasis):

So revolutions broke out in city after city, and in places where the revolutions occurred late the knowledge of what had happened previously in other places caused still new extravagances of revolutionary zeal, expressed by an elaboration in the methods of seizing power and by unheard-of atrocities in revenge. To fit in with the change of events, words, too, had to change their usual meanings. What used to be described as a thoughtless act of aggression was now regarded as the courage one would expect to find in a party member; to think of the future and wait was merely another way of saying one was a coward; any idea of moderation was just an attempt to disguise one’s unmanly character; ability to understand a question from all sides meant that one was totally unfitted for action. Fanatical enthusiasm was the mark of a real man, [ ... ] Family relations were a weaker tie than party membership, since party members were more ready to go to any extreme for any reason whatever. These parties were not formed to enjoy the benefits of the established laws, but to acquire power by overthrowing the existing regime; and the members of these parties felt confidence in each other not because of any fellowship in a religious communion, but because they were partners in crime. If an opponent made a reasonable speech, the party in power, so far from giving it a generous reception, took every precaution to see that it had no practical effect.

Revenge was more important than self-preservation [ ...] [A] victory won by treachery gave one a title for superior intelligence. And indeed most people are more ready to call villainy cleverness than simple-mindedness honesty. They are proud of the first quality and ashamed of the second.

Love of power, operating through greed and through personal ambition, was the cause of all these evils. To this must be added the violent fanaticism which came into play once the struggle had broken out. Leaders of parties in the cities had programs which appeared admirable—on one side political equality for the masses, on the other the safe and sound government of the aristocracy—but in professing to serve the public interest they were seeking to win the prizes for themselves. [... ] [N]either side had any use for conscientious motives; more interest was shown in those who could produce attractive arguments to justify some disgraceful action. As for the citizens who held moderate views, they were destroyed by both the extreme parties, either for not taking part in the struggle or in envy at the possibility that they might survive.

JuliaM

“That's the training where your claim that you are not a racist is proof that you are a racist.”

When Evil Pretends That It's Good:

They don't want an end to racism, they want to insist upon it. They want white racial identity to be the most important part of our lives. They want white people to band together according to their race and identify and value their race.

You know, like white supremacists do.

And when they get what they want they're going to feel like the Good Guys about it. Because they're fully and profoundly evil. All of them.

And that's from March, before the Church of George even started. But the choice of words is apt. This is evil. Not least because it'll only be the useful idiots, the footsoldiers, who'll feel that rush of righteousness. Their Generals will feel satisfaction, after calmly and deliberately creating the enemy they need to win power.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

“They're called Black Lives Matter! How can you object to that?”

So much of what passes for public language these days seems to be an intentional troll. ‘Black lives matter’ practically lusts after the response ‘all lives matter’ (‘how dare you!’) For the same reason the phrase ‘all lives matter’ has been relegated to the fringes, so any nut who wants attention can get it by putting on an ‘all lives matter’ t-shirt. Likewise the phrase (cooked up in 4chan as a deliberate troll) ‘It’s okay to be white’ sends otherwise sensible people into conniptions. The best way to deal with trolls is not pay them attention. So - considering our current media environment - we’re stuffed....!

The Washington Post defines “unarmed” loosely to include suspects who have grabbed an officer’s gun or who are fleeing from a car stop with a loaded semi-automatic pistol in their vehicle. Those nine allegedly unarmed black victims represent 0.1 percent of all black homicide victims, which number about 7,500 a year—more than all white and Hispanic homicide victims combined.

After the tally of nine unarmed black victims was reported in certain news outlets last week, the Post reclassified over a dozen of its armed victims of police shootings as unarmed. This reclassification occurred six months after the Post had already closed its 2019 data base. The reclassification was not done on the basis of any new information; it was undoubtedly done to get the black victim numbers up.

One more time, always respect the media.

Tom
Do they keep Londoners safe?

It does seem that any beneficial effect is increasingly incidental.

Not sure where I read it, possibly at this very establishment, but it's true nonetheless. You, meaning the society in which you're living, needs to decide if your police and military are meant to do what it says on the tin or if they're just a jobs programme. The video shows a police force (service?) that's a jobs programme, much like the flock of yellow-vested, blue-crowned, slack-spines that ran away from the crowd in London recently and needed to be saved by a young girl.

None of this bodes well for us I'm afraid. I had a small hope that it might work out well until I saw the police and, God help us, the National Guard, kneeling in supplication to these scrotes.

David

Not sure where I read it, possibly at this very establishment,

Maybe this, or over at Tim’s.

And needless to say, in terms of credibility, this kind of thing doesn’t exactly help.

David Cole has and excellent piece in Taki's:

“If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—for ever.” That’s the standout line in O’Brien’s spirit-crushing monologue from Nineteen Eighty-Four. But Orwell was only partly right. In the book, he uses the word “boot” 29 times, almost always in conjunction with the “tramping of heavy boots” that accompany the state’s stormtroopers. Thus, in O’Brien’s diatribe, the face-stamping boot is implied to belong to agents of the state—soldiers and thinkpol.

In reality, that’s not how it’ll be. The state’s not going to stamp our faces itself; it doesn’t like to get its boots scuffed. It will use proxies—immigrants, thieves, tenement dwellers, looters, rioters, trespassers, lunatics, and other assorted criminals to whom we can’t say no.

There’ll be no “tramping of heavy boots.” Just calls to open the border and defund the police, followed by the excited skittering of Jordans and huaraches.

As one group of Americans—whites—are prevented from saying no, other groups will hear nothing but yes. Jaden Hayden, the black mental patient who was purposely housed by the state of Michigan in a nursing home and locked in a room with elderly whites who could not fight back, represents more than just one horrific human who committed one horrific act. He represents an inevitable concluding chapter in the book of life for American whites. You’ll be beaten down, unable to say no, throughout your entire miserable existence. And on your deathbed, when you can’t even raise your arms in defense, you’ll be beaten down once more, just for good measure.

David

And… we’re back.

I'm certain I got the facts wrong, but not that GF was willing, nay, thrilled to bow to the will of the State.

At least someone on the Left understands that something is wrong with the pictures we're seeing on TV every night. I was about to say that he “gets it”, but reading the article, I'm not sure he does. He ends:

What good is achieving systemic change if our respect for laws is rendered so weak as to be unable to enforce it?

They don't want the laws to be enforced, Connor, even new ones more amenable to them. They want their own whims to be enforced. They want power. As many on the so-called “right” have noted over the years, Marxism and its derivatives, while appropriating the language of science and reason, are the counter-Enlightenment (many among BLM and its hangers-on openly decry it - the movement which resulted in the recognition of slavery as evil and resulted in its abolition - as, predictably, “racist”). They want the end of the rule of law, and a return to what Rand called the rule of men*: arbitrary “social”, i.e., mob, justice and strong-man Leaders.

Still, at least there's a glimmer of recognition, if not that these are bad people, at least that they're dangerous.

*Although no doubt it will also include women, and those who aren't quite sure. At least at first. Until the strongmen crush them.

London’s vermin problem has not improved.

The national chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation said: "How dare people stand by and video my colleagues in distress. Far too many people stand back and [watch] rather than assist anyone in trouble."
So if you see a neighbo(u)r being assaulted and you step in to defend her, you're going to be put through the wringer by the cops, the press, and the SJW brigade because you're some sort of above-the-law vigilante. "Law enforcement must be left to the professionals" they'll say. And when you stand aside to let the professionals exercise their superior skills and training, you're put through the wringer for not getting your hands dirty.

It boils down to, "We can't protect you, and we insist that you not protect yourselves or each other, and also we demand that you protect us." Do any of these idiots understand the damage they do with this kind of messaging?

The national chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation said: "How dare people stand by and video my colleagues in distress. Far too many people stand back and [watch] rather than assist anyone in trouble."

London and other Police Forces have, for the last week
- facilitated the gathering of crowds when the country is apparently in the middle of a pandemic and such gatherings are illegal
- stood by as property was destroyed by these crowds
- pandered to these mobs by "taking the knee" with the approval of their Chiefs
- run away rather than confront the mob

I wonder if the Police Federation Chairman is any good at joining the dots?

Ah, a check of my memory (aka Google) shows it was Tommy Robinson who I was thinking of.

A check of Guido Fawkes' archives will reveal the details. It should be said that by standing outside with a camera, the police assumed that he was planning to violate a judge's order over publicity of an on-going trial. But GF's contempt for TR and his fans were on a par with, well, you know who.

Mind you, I'm an American who believes in near-total free speech. Adjust your attitudes accordingly.
