Karma is a b*tch.

Karl

Chai nitro toluene?

David

Recreational rioting – it’s all just jolly larks... until they start smashing your apartment building.

Again, reciprocation. Some people apparently struggle with the concept.

Burnsie

The next installment in this type of saga usually begins,"But I'm on your side!"

Captain Nemo

Chai nitro toluene?

Chapeau.

Trinitrotoluene is TNT, so Karl made a funny. Good one, Karl.

The typical American, and can probably extend this to Western civilian in general, is so completely brainwashed I fear there is no turning back. People I have known most of my life, "smart" people, class leaders, team leaders, managers, former teachers, etc. have been exposing their profound ignorance quite regularly to me over the last few years but especially in the last few months. The confidence with which they 'know' things that simply aren't so. The denial that words have specific meanings, that events have consequences, have them blinded to reality. I'd be willing to bet that this guy still, and to the day he dies, believes that nothing serious is happening here. He is quite confident because the septic soup in which he swims is his total experience. Everyone else he knows believes the same things. The media, the culture, everyone he looks up to. Thus, #Truth. Many of them literally, physically even, cannot turn back because at this point they lack the thinking skills to navigate outside of Teh Narrative.

The next instalment in this type of saga usually begins, “But I’m on your side!”

Given that the “chill dawg” comment was made at a time when hours of footage of the so-called ‘protests’ was readily available, and the motives in play hard to miss, the denial of reality looks very much like a choice, not an improbable oversight.

News just in: Chief Executive Officer Catherine Roome (annual compensation in 2018: $446K) has bravely changed her title to Lead Executive Officer because 'chief' is insensitive to indigenous people. I suppose LEO is free now that law enforcement officers are going to be defunded and abolished.

Every day I can't help but think of Mark Steyn's line about a society sometimes being too stupid to survive.

Annoying Old Guy

Not all of it is explicitly willful ignorance. A smart, politically active person I know brought up the "anonymous federal agents are snatching people in Portland" thing. I pointed out that there had been 45 days of continuous rioting by then. He literally had no idea _any_ unrest had been happening. He didn't believe me, but another person in the group who lives just across the border from Portland confirmed it from direct experience. The first guy was openly stunned to hear this. On the other hand, he will (like so many others I know) continue to trust his current news sources despite this 2x4 level revelation he is being mislead. Where this endless well of credibility comes from, I don't know.

On a semi-related note, I think our host could make money by selling a T-shirt that had a hand holding a 2x4 piece of lumber labeled "reality" with the tag line "The beatings will continue until enlightenment occurs". I'd buy one.

Steve E

bravely changed her title to Lead Executive Officer because 'chief' is insensitive to indigenous people.

"One particularly courageous colleague pointed out that I was using a word in my title, president and chief executive officer, that represents something deeply meaningful to many Indigenous peoples. It is a word that is honoured and respected in First Nations culture and conveys a meaning very different to organizational leadership."

So just another case of indigenous people appropriating the white man's language and culture.

David

particularly courageous

[ Puts fingers down throat, vomits loudly into hands, rubs vomit into eyes. ]

Ah, that’s better.

JuliaM

@WTP:’ Johnson says protesters called him a coon, Uncle Tom, and the n-word—”with the -ER, not -a.”’

Because the latter would somehow be ok..?

Daniel Ream

So just another case of indigenous people appropriating the white man's language and culture.

Oh, she knows.

"The origin of my original title is European."

WTP

Oh for the love of God. The etymology of the word chief is flipping French derived from Latin. WTF? Did indigenous people anywhere call their chief, 'chief' outside of context of speaking with Europeans? This person makes $400K+ but doesn't even consult a dictionary?

---
Julia,
Was just discussing this sort of thing with a friend of mine and it occurred to me/us that the people whom I know who used the N-word the most years back are now strong leftists and even among the woke of the woke. One of our mutual friends would use that word so often, it would even get under my relatively thick skin. I used to joke if you asked him the color of the night sky, he'd say "N****r".

JuliaM

Meanwhile, in Austin Texas, an Antifa goon finds out there’s no respawn in real life when your wild shots at a car your buddies have surrounded result in someone (who practised at the range) returning fire.

Life comes at you fast. But death comes at you at 1,200 m/s....

sk60

a reminder that those real-world consequences can really chafe your cheeks.

1200 m/s is rifle territory! I think the defender in this case used a handgun.

@WTP:’ Johnson says protesters called him a coon, Uncle Tom, and the n-word—”with the -ER, not -a.”’

True story. I once overheard a conversation between a high school assistant principal and the mother of a black student who had been disciplined for using the former. She insisted with complete sincerity that the two words were completely different. He very gently suggested that, as classrooms were noisy places in which it might be difficult to hear clearly, that the student in question refrain from using either.

I should note that the school in question was about 75% hispanic/latino, 20% asian, and 1% everything else.

Squires

. I pointed out that there had been 45 days of continuous rioting...

In my experience most people do not know what led to the National Guard being called into Kent, Ohio, nor do they know why a group of Guardsmen opened fire on a group of “protesters”.

Where this endless well of credibility comes from, I don't know.

Fear.

Ah, that’s better.

It is a curious way of spelling “vain and chickenshit”.

Karl

Karl made a funny. Good one, Karl.

Are you being sarcaastic or sumfink my son? One of my least favourite fings that 'appens to be - saarcasm.

I wos walkin the dog, right, and this bloke he comes up to me an 'e says "nice day innit?"
But it wasn't! It wasn't a nice day. It was a little bit cloudy. Which makes 'im very sarcaastic.

So actin' as if nuffink 'ad 'appened, right, I got 'is head right, I stuck it in my maaf right, actin' dead casual like, I closed me teef right, and BIT HIS 'ED OFF.

'Cos I 'ate people bein' sarcaastic.

This is close, but not exactly that which you requested...

She insisted with complete sincerity that the two words were completely different.

They are, actually. Just as "dig" isn't the same as "dog".

Not that an ofay could use either, but the -a/-ah version appears to be inspeak and the -er version is the cross-race insult.

Since I am an ofay, I don't either one, but I've observed usage. YMMV.

Thon Brocket

by selling a T-shirt that had a hand holding a 2x4 piece of lumber labeled "reality" with the tag line "The beatings will continue until enlightenment occurs"

Never mind the T-shirt. Sell the 2-by-4s.

David

The peacefulness intensified. It was, as they say, intensely peaceful.

David

Maximum wokeness. Something, something, “white supremacy.”

H

Maximum wokeness.

Does not compute.

David

Does not compute.

Apparently, “women of colour” look a bit butch – what with their “strong jaws” and “facial hair” - and therefore - yes, therefore - if you’re not erotically drawn to transgender people, you’re not only “transphobic,” you’re also, somehow, “racist” and, by implication, perpetuating “violence” against “women of colour.” Or something. Although confidently announced, the sequence of thoughts is not, I grant you, entirely persuasive.

In his Twitter feed, Mr Sanni, who likes to paint his nails and take photographs of himself, spends quite a lot of time telling the rest of us how educated he is, how terribly enlightened. How we should aspire to be like him.

Up in the clouds, close to God.

David

It’s a little odd, being given grand and unsolicited moral lectures by a man who behaves like a self-preoccupied thirteen-year-old girl.

David

It’s almost as if hyper-dramatic, self-involved teenage girls were some kind of blueprint for these people.

David

Oh, and Antifa are now trying to blind people with lasers.

Because they care so very much.

Tom

Oh, and Antifa are now trying to blind people with lasers.

Because they care so very much.

Honestly, I've now gotten to the point where police snipers could pick those bastards off and I'd shake my head and think, "Oh well".

Given how long this nonsense has been going on and the lack of a boogaloo appearing I'm wondering if someone on the leftward side might be planning to start one. It does actually indicate a large amount of restraint being exercised by those to the right of centre that there hasn't been more violence. They don't seem to be quite the blood thirsty fascist savages that BLM and their fellow travellers make them out to be. Strange that.

PiperPaul

OK, everyone who took Eisenhower's "If a problem cannot be solved, enlarge it" to heart can stop now.

JuliaM

@Tom: ’ Honestly, I've now gotten to the point where police snipers could pick those bastards off and I'd shake my head and think, "Oh well".’

I find it really saves time if you start out from that point...

Going to be interesting, though, following the Garrett Foster shooting, to watch all the hoplophobic leftards desperately trying to overlook the fact he was shot while holding one of those eeeevil death weapons. Peacefully, of course!

WTP

The guy who shot GF will be in more trouble than the idiot who fired at his fleeing vehicle. From GF's GoFundMe page...

Garrett Foster was murdered last night July 25th while attending a peaceful protest in Austin, TX with his disabled fiancée in her wheelchair. An unknown vehicle barreled into the crowd and this evil person shot and killed Garrett, while he was trying to protect his fiancée. A great person was taken away from his fiancée, his mother, father , siblings and a host of loving family members. He fought against injustice , served in the military and was fiercely protective of his fiancée. They fell in love at 17 and were never apart. This fund is established to cover funeral , burial and other expenses in the days to come. We appreciate all the love , support and compassion during this emotional time.

Truly a hero and a patriot. Update your right-wing dictionaries accordingly.

Darleen

he was shot while holding one of those eeeevil death weapons

Evidently there are witnesses who say he pointed that weapon at the driver before being shot, and another protestor opened fire on the car after Foster was shot.

Peacefully.

We'll see how this eventually shakes out but I'm sure the lawyers are lined up to civilly sue the driver right now.

David

Somewhat related.

This thread pretty clearly lays out some things fairly obvious to people who have had Portland on their radar for a while, but less so to those who've only just heard that there are protests there.

In Canada, PARTICULARLY in Alberta we have a visceral hate for Prime Minister Trudeau and his Wormtongue, GM Butts, ex World Wild Life Fund CEO actively engaged in destroying Western Canada's resource extraction industries.

And yet they also hate Trump. I posed the question on Facebook as to why they have such a negative opinion of the current President considering his actual accomplishments and improvements for the American people. The misinformation Canada is fed by our MSM is as bad and more often worse than U.S. Media.

Last night Global News literally blamed Trump for the violence. If you can stomach watching this you will have an idea of the propaganda Canadians are subjected to every day.
