For readers unfamiliar with that particular idiom.

Zombie Dodge

Matt Taibbi has the funniest, most vicious takedown yet of that stupid pro-looting book:

https://taibbi.substack.com/p/dont-steal-this-book

Strange, how the old class-war lefties now strike me as much more palatable to me than the new race-war lefties.

Trevor

I’ll leave this here.

Sadly not news to many of us. Contrary to neigh-sayers there can scarcely be a homosexualist who hasn't been victim of equine heteronormative bigotry.

David

Sadly not news to many of us.

It’s an outrage, I tell you. One can only hope those horses were taken out and shot. As a lesson to the others.

Captain Nemo

[E]quine heteronormative bigotry

Band name.

Darleen Click

#Walkaway and be fabulous while doing it.

Alex

Those horses don't want to go over the rainbow, because then they'll become unicorns!

Richard

@Zombie Dodge - thank you for pointing me in the direction of that Matt Taibbi piece. Since you read the article this handy link was posted below: https://www.lootsafe.org/

Daniel Ream

I’ll leave this here.

That's fascinating, because horses are largely colour blind and shouldn't even be able to distinguish most of the colour bands.

Hal

I’ll leave this here.

That's fascinating, because horses are largely colour blind . . . .

A comment from parade management and operation and street subway grates is to walk the horse _around_ the grates . . . the comment is that horses don't understand metal grids, all the horse will see is this big hole in the ground.

With wide enough stripes there, I'm wondering if the horses were seeing some sort of depth related optical illusion because of their color perception . . .

David

That’s fascinating, because horses are largely colour blind and shouldn’t even be able to distinguish most of the colour bands.

Gay rays. It’s the only explanation.

asiaseen

horses are largely colour blind

Therefore, in today's terms, very racist. Time for an equine race course.

asiaseen

therapeutic property diminishment (TPD), otherwise referred to as “looting”

From the lootsafe manifesto. Presumably volunteering as a lootee automatically negates any insurance cover they may have.

neal

Horses and cows are raised on properties with cattle guards.
The pattern of the physical barrier can be entertaining unless one is in close with the critters.
Two dimensional gay inspired rodeo, with police.
Very urbane.

Adam

The police horses are doing a poorly executed side-pass. I had a paso fino horse who could side-pass smoothly all day. I’ve seen police use it to move unruly people - herd them, so to speak. People don’t know how to process a horse behaving like that. Disrupts whatever mischief they are committing.

Hopp Singg

Wait! In the city of Vancouver, Canada they launched a manhunt (can I say that?) for a miscreant who left skid marks on a rainbow crosswalk. Maybe these horses are progressive heroes...

Hal

TORIES IN TOTAL HARMONY

At least some politicians can play nicely together. James Cartlidge, the MP for South Suffolk, is forming a band with his fellow Tories Will Quince on vocals, Mark Garnier on bass and David Morris on guitars. “We don’t have a name yet and we don’t rehearse but other than that we’re top of the charts,” Cartlidge told Matt Chorley on Times Radio, following his leader’s example in letting confidence make up for bad planning. Chorley asked listeners to suggest band names, of which my favourites were the Prorogues, the Backstop Boys and Run DCMS.

Hmmm. I wonder if there's some place where they might get one or two suggestions for a band name . . .

JuliaM

’ horses are largely colour blind’

Someone theorised that, since they see in mostly grey, they saw the rainbow as a patch of water.

David

Still seems a little odd, to me, that modern, supposedly gay-affirming imagery tends to involve either the cartoonish and grotesque – drag-queen story time, say – or the childishly sentimental – rainbows, for instance. It’s possible I’m just a grump, of course, but it’s all faintly alienating. Can’t say I’ve ever felt much affinity with glittery unicorns or lurid transvestism.

[ Adjusts cravat, polishes monocle. ]

Deus Vulture

Disappointing. I was waiting for the horses to defecate as horses do.

Ed Snack

I do trust that it is a SILK cravat !

asiaseen

a miscreant who left skid marks on a rainbow crosswalk

Presumably, then, the miscreant has pristine underwear.

Hal

[ Adjusts cravat, polishes monocle. ]

Peers into camera . . .

Governor Squid

That LootSafe site is a work of art. I can't wait to share it with my very trendy friends looking for something to set them apart now that everybody's sporting BLM badges on their clothing, houses, cars and businesses.

Governor Squid

...modern, supposedly gay-affirming imagery tends to involve either the cartoonish and grotesque...or the childishly sentimental...

Where along this spectrum would C-3PO fall?

Hal

Where along this spectrum would C-3PO fall?

Somewhere in the grey?

Trevor

It's possible I'm just a grump

You certainly show promise. I'll spare no effort to drag you down to my level.

pst314

White people owning dogs is racist.

White people love dogs because they miss owning slaves.

fnord

I’ll leave this here.

At some point God is going to want his rainbow back

"How long can you tread water?"

David

You certainly show promise.

And yet, by and large, people find me a delight.

What?

Trevor

White people owning dogs in racist

The author is so insane he would make an ideal understudy for Boris Johnson.

WTP

White people owning dogs in racist

Shirley that's satire. Yes?

asiaseen

Fetching firewood for humans

He's gone beyond insanity.

POC deserve to exclusively own dogs as a form of restitution for their stolen ancestor’s work. Supporting the idea of white dog ownership is spitting on the grave of past POC generations.

Eurasians (who first domesticated dogs) were the ancestors of POC?

Paul Carlton

If you think that "White people Owning Dogs is Racist" is sheer lunacy (and it is) then how do you describe the video to "I Stole a packaged Ham From the Store Today & Gave it a Proper Burial" (linked from the site)?

https://twitter.com/UnbiasedKatie/status/1301557923244584960

I feel that the musical accompaniment and tributes at the end enhance the whole experience.

Crazyness to this degree must be a spoof but the comments are pure gold.

"As homeless people have suffered so much themselves, they're more likely to empathise with animals and understand that it's better to starve than to be complicit in murder." for example

Squires

He's gone beyond insanity.

Can you blame me for suspecting it was satire for roughly the first 1/3 to 1/2?

WTP

It's satire. Change my mind. I double-dog dare you.

Deus Vulture

“[I]t’s becoming clearer than ever that the conventional language used to describe wine isn’t merely intimidating and opaque. It’s also inextricable from racism and sexism, excluding dimensions of flavor that are unfamiliar to the white, Western cultures that dominate the world of fine wine and reinforcing retrograde notions of gender."

— Esther Mobley, San Francisco Chronicle

I show I’m an ally by keeping my Night Train in a paper bag of color while I drink it in the parking lot of Walgreens at two in the morning. I think it enhances the subtle overtones of dumpster, especially when paired with cheese in a can.

Deus Vulture

“I Stole a packaged Ham From the Store Today & Gave it a Proper Burial"

A single slice of pineapple on the grave would have been a nice touch.

Jonathan

This seems as good a description of the typical Academic Communist Apologist as any I've read:

A Morality Tale

You probably don’t know the name Malcolm Caldwell. I’d like to take a moment of your time to introduce his life story to you for some of the lessons he can teach us. Born in Scotland in 1931, Malcolm Caldwell was a British academic and a prolific Marxist writer. As well as being an academic, he was a leading figure in protest movements across the West during the 60s and 70s and campaigned for developing third world countries.

So far. so ordinary.

But there's more:

Caldwell was a particular cheerleader of Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge regime. At a time when western Marxists were divided in their support of Russia/China and Vietnam/Cambodia, Caldwell was firmly in the Sino-Cambodian camp and supported Cambodia over Vietnam. He wrote articles in The Guardian rubbishing claims of genocide in the killing fields. Any deaths were undoubtedly due to American interference and those that were purged were only “arch-Quislings who well knew what their fate would be were they to linger in Cambodia".

A young man's wish is granted!:

In December 1978, Caldwell received some great news. He was granted a two-week visit to Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge and would even have an opportunity to meet with Pol Pot himself. He would be the first Briton to be invited to the new reclusive regime....."He didn't want to know about problems with the Khmer Rouge," one of the companions says. "And that carried over to not wanting to know about problems between Cambodia and Vietnam. He was stuck in '68 or something."

However, Professor Calwell's bootlicking of Communist tyranny didn't do him any good:

That night, as Caldwell and the journalists slept, a group of heavily armed men arrived at the hotel and knocked on Caldwell’s door.

Caldwell was taken outside and shot dead.

The utter refusal to accept material facts and engage in any genuine critical thinking is a quite striking mark of the breed.

Read the whole thread Here.

. . . of fine wine and reinforcing retrograde notions of gender."

— Esther Mobley, San Francisco Chronicle

Lately the Chron has been getting rather thick with hipsters frantically hoping to fail to notice their irrelevancy . . .

Hal

. . . . and those that were purged were only “arch-Quislings who well knew what their fate would be were they to linger in Cambodia".

. . . 'K, so in simple terms, we can expect that he wasn't the least bit surprised.

David

Caldwell was a particular cheerleader of Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge regime.

I did rather like this bit:

Utopia is not under the slightest obligation to produce results: its sole function is to allow its devotees to condemn what exists in the name of what does not.

Sounds about right.

Trevor

Caldwell was taken outside and shot dead.

I do like a happy ending.

pst314

Caldwell was a particular cheerleader of Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge regime.

Note also this passage: "Caldwell’s Guardian obituary eulogised him as 'an irreplaceable teacher and comrade whose work will undoubtedly suffer the customary fate of being better appreciated after his death.' "

...demonstrating how enthusiastically the Guardian will embrace any evil so long as it wears the hammer and sickle.

WTP

undoubtedly suffer the customary fate of being better appreciated after his death.

Oh...’after’. First read that as ‘by’. Never mind.

asiaseen

@ WTP
It's satire. Change my mind.

Enough to change your mind?

"Cayde is a father to two and a lifelong conservationist. When not committing time to the local zoo, Cayde spends his time creating and disseminating educational materials for local schools that help kids understand why protecting animals and LGBTQIA+ rights is so important."

Cayde -6 does not have a satirical bone in his brain

Jonathan

Sounds about right.

Commies haven't changed their beliefs in more than a century.

Of course if you never admit that you've made a mistake in the first place, how could you learn from them?

David

I’m getting lots of bra adverts on the YouTube app.

Just sayin’.

pst314

"...why protecting animals and LGBTQIA+ rights is so important."

Does Cayde know many LGBTQIA+ animals? ;-)

Jen

I’m getting lots of bra adverts on the YouTube app.

Tough sell. :-)

David

Tough sell. :-)

I don’t recall ever having expressed an interest in generously stuffed ladies’ undergarments. And yet on the YouTube app on my phone, I’m getting endless lingerie ads with boasts of “flat back, super support,” and pictures of busty young ladies bulging at me.

It’s all faintly unnerving.

Darleen

RIP Mrs. Peel.

Darleen

I've read this now twice and I'm calling Poe's Law.

Steve E

It’s all faintly unnerving.

Two possible explanations. Someone in your household has been using your computer to peruse the Frederick's of Hollywood online catalogue or; The League of Transvestite Gentlemen has launched a cyber attack in revenge for recent anti-flamboyance comments. Either way, not fabulous.

asiaseen

RIP Mrs. Peel

RIP indeed, one of my not so youthful lusts

asiaseen

I'm calling Poe's Law

Ah! The "only POCs can own dogs" man. I suspect this site will be a never-ending source of incredibilty

Sam Duncan

“RIP Mrs. Peel.”

God, I hate 2020.

David

RIP Mrs. Peel

I remember watching Mrs P coping with karate-chopping Cybernauts, high-voltage spies, and villages in which the population is mysteriously shrinking.

Good times.

David

That’s shrinking as in being reduced in number, not height. (Though there is an episode involving a shrinking ray of some sort.)

David

Right, tomorrow’s Ephemera has been compiled and should materialise just after midnight.

WTP

... protecting animals and LGBTQIA+ rights ...
Cayde -6 does not have a satirical bone in his brain

Ah, but see...that's all part of the satire. Animal AND LGBTQIA+ rights? I mean, come on. Pick one or the other. Otherwise you're just a bit over the top. Shirley.

WTP

Exhibit B...from Darleen's link...

We are always in need of transgender leadership within our world, and what better way than to call upon a fishy friend to keep the alt right in check.

Now tell me THAT ain't satire. I for one, welcome our new seahorse overlords.

Baceseras

what better way than to call upon a fishy friend

Leigh Hunt

To a Fish

You strange, astonished-looking, angle-mouthed,
Dreary-faced, gaping wretches of the sea,
Gulping salt water everlastingly,
Cold-blooded, though with red your blood be graced,
And mute, though dwellers in the roaring waste;
And you, all shapes beside, that fishy be --
Some round, some flat, some long, all devilry,
Legless, unmoving, infamously chaste:

O scaly, slippery, wet, swift, staring wights,
What is't ye do? What life lead? eh, dull goggles?
How do ye vary your dull days and nights?
How pass your Sundays? Are ye still but boggles
In ceaseless wash? Still naught but gapes and bites,
And drinks and stares, diversified with boggles?

Baceseras

...and hoping to be first to get this in:

diversified with boggles: band name

Hal

diversified with boggles: band name

For that matter,

drinks and stares,

ceaseless wash,

dull goggles,

and,

infamously chaste.
