Richard Cranium

When I was a younger man, I used to say the title of Metallica's debut studio album with a smile.

And so, while standing a few feet from a deranged man with a knife, a man threatening to kill himself, the clown-shoe radicals’ priority was to scream abuse at the police officers, making their job harder and the use of force more likely, and to repeatedly screech about how outrageous it was to be touched or asked to move back.

So they're saying that he fit right in?

semi retired conservative

More than one schizophrenic at that scene, I'll wager.

Governor Squid

Pretty sure I'd just tell the guy with the knife that there was "a purple-haired girl over there" who wanted to help him die, and then just let nature take its course.

There's a reason the company keeps me locked away with my spreadsheets.

I strongly suspect that if any of my employers had ever truly realized exactly what kind of power and access to information a sysadmin/devops engineer actually has I'd be facing criminal charges.

Tsk. As we’ve seen, many times, Antifa devotees are the very model of mental health and in no way deranged.

Portland

Oh. *shrugs*

MC

hostile Antifa protesters who had already been gathering nearby at Powell’s Books calling for Andy Ngo’s upcoming book [on Antifa] to be banned

They are protesting about a yet-to-be published book outside a bookshop which, presumably, has nothing to do with the publication and probably won't stock it anyway (because Portland). Mental as anything.

I wonder how many Antifa will secretly buy the book to see if they are in it? "Ooh, look, that's me! I was the purple-haired tranny with facial tattoos who spat in his face and screamed Nazi over and over again!"

Darleen

calling for Andy Ngo’s upcoming book [on Antifa] to be banned.

I've got the book on pre-order ... nothing makes me hit the "buy now" button faster than these screeching, 2nd rate, bookburner escapees from Fahrenheit 451

Hmm. Can I get one of those helmets?

Governor Squid

They keep shrieking that Ngo is Literally Hitler, yet fail to acknowledge that Powell's will sell you a copy of Mein Kampf right now.

And not only will they happily sell you some Marx & Engel -- they'll sell you a bunch of texts by bitter PoliSci/Philosophy majors helping you understand what Marx & Engel are really all about. (Curiously, citations of the M&E Body Count are very scarce across all of these materials.)

The compassion & humanity of the left/liberal/progressive is a wonder to behold.

The compassion & humanity of the left/liberal/progressive is a wonder to behold.

"Sure, Professor XYZ is a Communist, but he cannot in any way be a bad man: After all, he never raises his voice and he smiles a lot as he talks about the desirability of totalitarianism."

JuliaM

The saddest line in that article? ‘Police made no arrests.’

Sporkatus

Sure, Professor XYZ is a Communist, but he cannot in any way be a bad man

What some probably feared in the Victorian age or have since pretended was the age's defining goal has come to pass:
"Niceness" and "smartness" have totally replaced true decency and morality. A clever bon mot, an extravagant social posture, and all is forgiven because one is the right sort of person. Combine with a shrinking category of whom one must be nice *to*, and we have the modern left figuratively kicking urchins in a tophat while smoking a cigar and condemning the rest of us for just how terribly backward we are. Letting the side down, we are.

"Niceness" and "smartness" have totally replaced true decency and morality.

Indeed--although I would add that some "conservatives" also take this attitude.
