Mags

Please tell me the student got expelled.

JuliaM

What does he mean, ‘no apology, no explanation’..? It’s right there in the video!

’ Alright sorry about that man, we just had a robbery that occurred in this location and whatnot, so were are just checking it out..’

So either he’s unable to understand words, in which case what’s he doing at university, or he’s a lying race-baiting arsehole, in which cases what’s he doing at univ... Oh, wait, I think I answered the latter.

Burnsie

Another martyr. Say his name!!!

Martin D

the most traumatic thing I have ever experienced.

"Our betters", as our host would say.

David

“Our betters”, as our host would say.

It does, I think, illustrate a type of personality strongly attracted to progressive activism. A type we must’ve seen dozens of times over the years. Think of it as woke morality laid bare. Which is to say, narcissism, status-seeking, unrealism and eye-widening dishonesty - and an utter disregard for whoever will be imposed upon or wronged as a result of the lying.

David

It’s right there in the video!

I suppose you have to imagine just how self-absorbed you’d have to be, how desperate to be applauded by fools, that you’d lie so dramatically, seemingly oblivious, or indifferent, to the fact that said lie would almost certainly be exposed.

And again, utterly unconcerned by the fallout for others.

Because they care so very much.

Burnsie

the most traumatic thing I have ever experienced.

I've had first dates that were more traumatic.

Hell, it was so traumatic that he asked the cops for a lift home. Instant Stockholm Syndrome, I guess.

David

it was so traumatic that he asked the cops for a lift home.

Heh. The mismatch of his account with what actually happened is quite funny, in a pathetic sort of way.

Of course, chappie may simply know his peers quite well and may understand that they, like him, don’t much care whether the Outrage Of The Week actually happened and will be outraged anyway. And by the time his dishonesty comes to light, they, and he, will have moved on to the next Reason To Be Pious And Agitated.

The emotional drama, and self-flattery, being what matters.

WTP

Aside from the words quoted from this specific video, JuliaM's comment and David's responding comment to her could easily, literally apply to the "Trump told people to drink bleach" hoax and the "Fine people on both sides" hoax, and several others perpetrated by the MSM and even our current president. Soooo....what's the big deal? Just a (likely) journalism major learning/practicing the craft.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

The four most feared words out of a rozzers mouth...

Hey, how ya doin' ?

There were two cops behind me - hands on their guns.

Aside from the fact that they were looking for a yte guy, and that it appears they didn't even get out of the car, if they were behind him, how would he know they had their hand on their guns ?

The guy is a crappy liar (so maybe a "journalism" student indeed) but you have to wonder what crap he would have come up with if they had given him a ride ?

"After they tazed me and knelt on my neck till I couldn't breathe, they smashed my head into the roof of the squad car as they threw me into it like I was a sack of potatoes or Hillary!, and then drove around like they were playing Mario Cart, bouncing me around as if they were playing squash with a superball."

asiaseen

Oh! Just imagine how the story would have developed had the cops given him a lift. "At gunpoint I was brutally and viciously forced into the police car and made to lie on the floor while the cops continuously trampled on me and kicked me with their heavy boots, spewing insults about me and my colour..."

Severian

When I retired from university teaching a few years back, this kind of lie was so commonplace, it barely registered anymore. "I couldn't turn in the paper, because I had to rush home to be at my dying Granny's bedside!" No, you didn't; you were at the sorority formal; there are pictures of you there all over social media. I've said many times that if Generation Selfie aren't actual, diagnosable sociopaths, they're functionally indistinguishable from same. They'll lie to you on spec, for any reason or no reason, just to see what they can get away with. And if they get caught lying, they just shrug it off. It's creepy, it's weird, and when the majority of kids start doing it, it's damn frightening.

I don’t recall Jussie Smollett being meaningfully held to account for his tissue of lies so this little POS will surely graduate as if nothing happened.

"In short, my brothers, we’ve all been forced to enter the weird mental world of American Blacks, where nothing’s as it seems and everything is a giant conspiracy..."

Out of curiosity I visited a couple "afro-centric bookstores" back in the late 80's/early 90's. They were fascinating repositories of paranoia, hatred, and crackpot theories.

We’re stuck with this kind of confessional, teenage girl’s personal account of trauma, style of writing for a generation or more. Schools English language and writing curricula encourage it these days, and the same goes for mandatory writing classes in colleges that have them. It is no wonder that an entire generation of opinion writers, especially those who are both female and minorities, think that this is the highest, or perhaps even the only, form of intellectual cogitation and expression.

style of writing

Indeed. Combined with the WikiStupida research methodology (first hand research bad, third hand commentary good), it's a wonder that any information is transmitted at all...

@pst314,

welcome back, though you obviously haven't missed much -- unlike our gracious host here, who somehow regularly churns out quality content, my posting is sporadic and hobby-horsey (it's a word). Re: conspirazoids, I still occasionally check out Black social media - it's cheaper than dropping acid, and doesn't show up on urine tests. My favorite semi-recent one was the assertion that ghetto bangers should stop wearing their pants so low as to show off both butt cheeks, as this is a relic of slavery -- apparently the slaveholders used to rape their male slaves to "break" them, then force them to wear their pants like this out in the fields while picking cotton to show they've been "broken."

I am in no way kidding about any of that. And while I don't know for sure, I certainly wouldn't bet *against* the idea that this curious notion originated in academia, as the lurid fantasy of someone with "PhD" after his name, making upwards of $100K a year at taxpayer expense.

@pst314, welcome back

I always bookmark interesting blogs. [ tips hat] Yours was added in 2016.

My favorite semi-recent one was the assertion that ghetto bangers should stop wearing their pants so low as to show off both butt cheeks, as this is a relic of slavery...

When you are stupid and paranoid, everything is a "relic of slavery".

I certainly wouldn't bet *against* the idea that this curious notion originated in academia

There certainly are black professors who are intelligent and sane and work in departments devoted to real subjects, but it does sometimes seem as if most are mediocrities doing pseudo-work in departments of grievance studies.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

We’re stuck with this kind of confessional, teenage girl’s personal account of trauma...

From Wanda's link:

Before the pandemic, the simple act of walking to the courthouse where I work demanded exhaustive control of my body. For a while I tried very hard to make myself look less feminine and more white. I’d pretend to be deaf when strangers addressed me with their eyes pulled back into a slant while taunting “Me love you long time” or loudly said they had “yellow fever.”

Right. In town dominated by leftists. Like our friend brutalized by "Okay, well you have a good night", it would be nice if these idiots could at least come up with halfway believable BS.

David

There should be serious consequences for what he did.

In a saner world, people indulging in such behaviour would within days find themselves expelled, with their belongings dumped on the roadside, and their parents informed in detail as to why, in a letter including the words unfit for university and no refund.

In a saner world.

Speaking of conniving little shits

I was happy to see Professor Jacobson's article ... the "official" sci-fi/fantasy community has gone full-wokeistan for several years (which is why Sad Puppies happened) but people outside fandom probably have little clue on what is going on.

This, like the Invasion of the Sanity Snatchers in other distinct-interest groups, needs all the publicity it can get. Otherwise we become like the Soviet system of "approved" art, movies, writing, knitting, etc ...

People are being judged on their personal entertainment choices and one can even be fired for refusing to give the Wakanda salute.

WTP

They'll lie to you on spec, for any reason or no reason, just to see what they can get away with. And if they get caught lying, they just shrug it off. It's creepy, it's weird and journalists have been doing it for decades. I had a feud with our local newspaper (Orlando Sentinel) that went back and forth for a couple of weeks over their assertion that a certain baseball stadium did "not have a bad seat in the house" when in fact there were seats (and I previously had been sold two of them) located behind a light pole such that most of left field and a good bit of left/center could not be seen. Worst seat I have ever seen in a modern stadium. They then blamed this on a book that the article pulled its information from. A book that was not referenced until about 3 or 4 weeks later in the "corrections" section. See, they needed to reference a book because they were too lazy to send anyone out to THE PHYSICALLY CLOSEST SPRING TRAINING BASEBALL STADIUM TO THEIR OFFICES...like 20 minutes down the road. On Disney property. On another occasion, the ombudsman pretended to be unfamiliar that the phrase "War is peace" is used in Orwell's 1984 yet they used it in a headline reporting on a GW Bush, seeming to quote him (Bush: War Means Peace...or some such) speech in which that phrase was not literally used. It was like Orwell on top of Orwell. And this was about 15 years ago now. So like I said, kid was simply using what he learned in J-school.

WTP

Keepin’ It Real:

"Note, please, that I don’t actually blame Blacks for believing shit crazy enough to make Q-Anon seem calm and reasonable. Think about what our 'educational' system must do to them. There you are, getting set to learn about Plato and Socrates and whatnot in your Western Civ class… only to find out that those guys really stole all their stuff from Black Africans..."

That certainly plays an important role, but the lunacy predates the corruption of the "education" system: Those batshit-crazy "afrocentric" bookstores existed long before the universities started giving tenure to black racialist cranks.

Via Instapundit: "Latest scientific trend: Woke Quantum Physics":

An editorial in Scientific American informs us that "The popular term 'quantum supremacy,' which refers to quantum computers outperforming classical ones, has inescapable racist overtones." The editorial concludes: "These kinds of linguistic hotfixes do not reach even a bare minimum for diversifying science...to make it less white and male."

From the blog comment thread, two examples of how academia is "diversifying" science:
First: Student submits fraudulent paper to doctoral review committee. Committee says he should not be punished because 'we are not awarding PhDs to enough minorities, so this has to be taken into consideration.'
Second: Med school student discovers that TA's are giving exam answers to students in minorities-only study session.

I thought it was just the BBC shows being politically correct, (and I freely admit our own idiocy that every two bit police force over here has a chief wearing four stars), but is every Chief Constable over there female ?

David

“These kinds of linguistic hotfixes do not reach even a bare minimum for diversifying science... to make it less white and male.”

We are skipping merrily through the Land Of Farce. But then, if you’re employed by a once-reputable science publication and are simultaneously committed to any number of false premises – say, regarding the aggregate distributions of interest, aptitude, and cognitive wherewithal – then tensions will arise, and mental contortions will have to be performed.

[ Added: ]

And so, we get researchers at Yale and New York University spending large sums of public money to howl and agonise over why fan-edited Wikipedia entries on TV programmes tend to be more thorough and detailed when written by men. And inevitably, crying “sexism” and “systematic gender bias.” That men and women may, in aggregate, differ in their interests, perhaps quite markedly, and in their willingness to write lengthy, often bewildering Wikipedia entries on products of pop culture, is apparently shocking and quite literally unthinkable. And so, diabolical forces must be the only explanation.

But this is what happens when social science, such as it is, is increasingly dominated by self-styled activists, i.e., leftists, and the science, such as it is, is effectively downstream of the activism and subordinate to it. Somewhere between a thin rationalisation and a laughable fig-leaf. You end up with narrow, parochial thinkers begging questions at a rate of knots and arriving, reliably, at the same wrong answers, every bloody time.

I dunno. It just seems VERY convenient, and dare I say white, that the police just happen to have a video and a transcript to be released to the public. They will stop at literally nothing to demean a person of color who steps forward with his truth about police brutality. A full investigation of how this video and transcript were created and who handled them must be done immediately by Federal Authorities!

This is unacceptable. The police must be disarmed, defunded, retrained, re-uniformed and reimagined immediately so that this soul and spirit crushing trauma does not happen to any person of color in the future for any reason!! Also, provide a free ride service for all University students of color.

Also, provide a free ride service for all University students of color.

That was pretty much the icing on the cake:

“Excuse me, sir, we’re looking for two armed robbers in the area. Did you see or hear anything?”

free ride service for all University students of color

My alma mater used to run a "Safety Van" service to ferry female students living off campus home if they didn't feel like walking. Despite assaults of lone female students being effectively nonexistent, the ridership policy was that male students were only allowed on the Van once every female student who wanted a ride was seated.

The service was ultimately retired when it became too obvious to ignore that female students were much more likely to be assaulted by the driver of the van than a random miscreant while walking home.

Sam

Severian - when's that Basic College Girl book going to print? Sorry to say but no future historian is ever digging up the pixels spilled discussing how we suicided the West, so you might as well entertain in the present, right?

Severian

Sam,

the problem with my Basic College Girl stories is that, while they're all true, nobody believes me. Like the time one of them took her complaint about my refusal to give her a "make up" exam all the way up to the Dean. The thing was, this lovely lass *started* by admitting, in writing, that she'd simply forgotten what day the exam was due. Everything subsequent to that -- the wailing and gnashing of teeth about her GPA, her scholarship, her law school acceptance, and, of course, the granny that died right before it was due that she just now remembered -- was attached in a series of replies to the original email. You know, the one that said "hey, I just spaced on the date, can I take a make up?"

My response to all of this, at every administrative level, was simply to forward the email chain on to the relevant authority. All of them passed the buck, so that the Dean eventually got it (the civilian equivalent would be, I dunno, something like appealing a traffic ticket all the way up to the Supreme Court). I don't know what happened after that, since I made it clear in my email to His Excellency that I would be happy to give Snowflake a make up exam -- or, indeed, simply mark down any grade at all for her in the grade book -- provided he gave me explicit instructions in writing.

For all I know, it's still in appeal, and do you see what I mean? I was there, and I hardly believe it myself.

pst314

the problem with my Basic College Girl stories is that, while they're all true, nobody believes me.

Oh, I would probably find all your stories very believable. The one you just mentioned certainly is, sad to say.

pst314

Speaking of unbelievable stories that ought to be believed, here are a few from the CWBChicago blog (on Twitter):

Bond court -
Prosecutor begins presenting complaint against man accused of shooting another at a West Side #Chicago gas station...
State: "On September 25...."
Defendant: "Nah. It was September 11!"
Public Defender: (GIF of man banging head repeatedly)

Felony bond court —
Private defense attorney argues that she can't believe her client, charged with attempted murder, is guilty of the crime because his mother runs an anti-violence organization. #Chicago

Today's felony bond court highlight:
Prosecutor: The defendant attacked his barber, which caused the barber's eyeball to hang out of its socket.
Defendant: I definitely knocked his eye out.
Public defender: Siiirrrr! Don't say anything!

Man stole tow truck, then called 911 to complain because victim pulled a gun on him.

Today's bond court highlight —
Judge: Sir, you are charged with aggravated robbery...
Defendant: Yeah, I do that, so what?
Judge + Public Defender: Sir! Sir! Sir!
Judge: We're gonna do you a favor and press this 'mute' button.

Peachy rex

There is often hilarity to be found on CWB. But it will all be much funnier in a few months when I am no longer a resident of Chicago.

NTSOG

@ Severian: "... provided he gave me explicit instructions in writing."

It's amazing how recalcitrant and/or lazy bureaucrats become effective on specific issues when explicit instructions in writing are demanded of them or they are faced with incontrovertible written documentation/advice from an independent specialist on some serious issue. Learning to report up in writing is an essential part of functioning safely in any bureaucracy: document or be damned.

Daniel Ream

You've been lucky, then. I've been fired for asking for requests in writing.

pst314

But it will all be much funnier in a few months when I am no longer a resident of Chicago.

Yes! Best of luck!

pst314

no-nonsense rozzers such as these:

The police have been forced to back down, albeit in a mealy-mouthed way:

"Merseyside Police was forced to clarify that 'being offensive is not an offence' after a local policing team shared an 'incorrect' statement stating the opposite on the side of a van in Wirral...Superintendent Martin Earl later released a statement in which he explained the 'well intentioned' poster was part of a campaign drive encouraging people to report hate crime. He said the force apologises 'for any confusion this may have caused'."

I doubt there was any "confusion" about what the police meant.

Superintendent Martin Earl later released a statement in which he explained the 'well intentioned' poster was part of a campaign drive encouraging people to report hate crime.

Y'all are becoming quite the Stasi state over there. Wasn't that a feature of the old East Germany - rat out your neighbor before they can rat on you? We've got it here too, what with masks and "social distancing" and other Covid-related crimes.
