In diverse-identity news,

Ex-soldier exposed her penis and used wheelie bin as sex toy in public.

If you detect dissonance in the headline, you’re a very bad person, obviously.

Chloe Thompson, 42, was caught rubbing herself on a public wheelie bin before using a sex toy on herself in an alley in Middlesbrough, Teesside, on August 13 last year. A couple shouted at her and she ran away. On the same day, she exposed herself on the street where she lives and thrust her hips into a fence. A witness said Thompson looked at her and the group she was with “as if Thompson wanted them to notice her.” Once she was inside her house, she exposed her bum and thrust against her window.

And remember to steer clear of the words mental health issues. These are merely “challenges,” according to Judge Stephen Carroll.

Update:

In the comments, Mags highlights the woke dishonesties in the quoted paragraph:

It is faintly surreal, even setting aside the novel use of a wheelie bin. And Thompson’s history of indecency and molesting children.

I can understand the reluctance to appear indelicate or to cause needless offence, and in some situations there may be scope for polite fudging; but pretending-as-default, or worse, pretending-as-law, can lead to unhappy farce and a kind of collective derangement. And presenting the reader with an obvious distortion of reality, and seemingly an expectation that we should all pretend too, is also rather offensive.

Also, open thread.

Thompson was already on the sex offenders’ register before she had come out as trans when she was legally named Andrew McNab. She has 17 convictions for 22 offences, including sexually assaulting an underage girl in 2011.

22 offences.

All I see is an unrepentant criminal sociopath playing the system like a pro.

One minute it's "That disgusting man is exposing himself!" and the next minute the media, police, lawyers, and judges are falling all over themselves to show "her" the utmost respect and understanding. The effing judge is apologetic about putting this creep behind bars!

I've had enough. I'll have a coffee with Stephanie and wait for SMOD.

One has to wonder if all his name changing had anything to do not wishing to run afoul of Steven Mitchell CBE, AKA Andy McNab, late of the SAS.

If only the prior 17 convictions for 22 offences had given us some small reason to suspect that this young woman with a penis has a problem functioning in society.

Tangentially related, if women can have penises and men can menstruate and have babies, why the hell are we butchering children and stuffing them full of life destroying hormones to give them simulacra of "traditional" gendered body types? Maybe the war on reality should slow its roll and just pick a damned lane already.

ccscientist

With 22 offenses and 17 convictions, why is this person on the street? They guy who ran over grandmas at a parade a few months ago in Wisconsin had a long long rap sheet for serious crimes, but was not in jail. If it doesn't mean anything to get convicted for assault on an underage girl or armed robbery (where someone could get killed) then we should not be surprised if criminals get bolder and bolder.

There is a subset of criminals who will be deterred by the prospect of jail. My friend in high school figured out how to break into vending machines. When he went to cash in the coins, a raised eyebrow by the bank teller gave him the clue to stop doing that. Others are nuts and will not stop--removing them from society is our only protection.

Yeah. I get how that's supposed to be light hearted and funny and all, what with cops and their reputation for having such a great sense of humor. But there's a bit of the problem with the police in this. Stop haranguing the rest of us and deal with the actual problem. I have a funny feeling that whomever that was meant for has some other issues that are far more concerning than pantsless posting. Were I a neighbor with small children or daughters or such, I don't think I would find it all that funny. By the time (most) people choose to involve the police in such situations, the problem has likely occurred far more than once. Surely in this age of cameras everywhere, this person could be caught and dealt with more properly.

Daniel Ream

The nonce/tranny overlap is remarkable

Over 90% of dysmorphics were sexually abused as children/adolescents, and childhood sexual abuse is the number one indicator of adult sexual offenses against children. It's only remarkable when you believe the disingenuous excuses instead of looking at what's right in front of you: severely traumatized adults in the throes of a self-destructive coping mechanism.

Hippogryph

Some larger thoughts.

As a matter of accommodation, I'm willing to use preferred pronouns ("he" or "she", though not "xe" or "they", etc.) for civilized transgender folk who are doing their part to emulate the opposite sex. Amy Schneider, that transgender-woman Jeopardy champion? Fine.

I do this out of generosity, not out of obligation. And I do all this as a polite fiction--a fiction because it is a stepping around something which all parties should yet admit to be a truth. Which is: The concept of "sex" is a real and ineradicable, and one sex cannot become the other, through any medicine, surgery or technology. Changing gender is only a matter of changing self-presentation, and a poor coping with what is a monomania and a mental illness.

The transgender activist types don't accept that my position is that of most "normal" people, at least those who are willing to make accommodations. But normal people like me, even the most generous, are not going to play along if playing along makes us look like fools, or turns us into liars. All of the activists' doctrines, and much of their behavior, is aimed at those two things. The pushing (and air-brushing) of Lia Thomas, in the interest of damaging women's sports and humiliating women who protest, is an example. Playing dance-of-the-lemons with the Loudoun county teen rapist, that's another. Telling First Graders in Florida that they might need to be castrated, another yet.

The push-back will be harsh.

ccscientist

Hippogryph: when there was push-back a few years ago in maybe NC about women in men's bathrooms, the media defended the trans to the nth degree. They elided over the real problems of male bodies in women's restrooms, talking about the single user restrooms you see at gas stations (even there, the lock is often broken...), claiming that if you use a stall there is no problem when in fact there is always a gap and women do not want to see hairy legs in the next stall. They objected that "most" trans are not going to assault and that "no one" would say they were trans just to get in the locker rooms--when both of those were false. Since there is no way to prove who is "really" trans and who not, there is no way to keep out the fake trans until AFTER they have committed a crime. Oh, yeah, the defenders said assault and taking pics in a bathroom are already illegal but if men are not able to enter the risk does in fact go way down. Some said "but in Europe they have co-ed saunas"--but we are not europe. And as the case of Lia shows, it is not just bathrooms with stalls but locker rooms and showers and YMCA and high school gym locker rooms and spas and women's shelters. Women need private spaces. But my concern here is how the media immediately took sides and were happy to obfuscate and lie to defend the trans.

"The push-back will be harsh"

Indeed. I'm guessing most of the West is headed for a dose of "bad luck"

Hippogryph

@ccscientist

I remember that one, too. I remember the bad faith and dishonesty, and the scant respect paid to the safety of women.

Like I said, I want accommodation for civilized and decent transgender people. But that just isn't going to put them in the same spot, in every instance, as the other sex. There are times when its unsafe, unfair or humiliating for others.

As it is, there are people trying to take advantage. Some of them are very vile. And its absurd to ignore that it's happening.

Daniel Ream

As a matter of accommodation, I'm willing to use preferred pronouns

I'm not, for the same reason I wouldn't serve someone whom I knew was an alcoholic "just one more".

ccscientist

We are to believe that trans are everywhere but in my life I have seen 2. One was a scientist who transitioned in his 40s and made a very dumpy and unattractive woman. The other was a very muscular young man in a frilly dress being led around by a friend (obviously had not had surgery and did not have fake boobs or women's makeup)--he was very scattered and off. I must pat myself on the back for hanging out in the right circles.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

I'm not, for the same reason I wouldn't serve someone whom I knew was an alcoholic "just one more".

Exactly, it is no one's responsibility, neither is it a duty under the guise of politeness, to feed or affirm someone's delusions whether it is sexual confusion, "body positivity", the latest craze of Tourette Syndrome/dissociative identity disorder, or any other major malfunction.

They are coming out of the woodwork as it is.

ComputerLabRat

But normal people like me, even the most generous, are not going to play along if playing along makes us look like fools, or turns us into liars.

And that is why I am not willing to accommodate any of this pronoun nonsense unless it's under penalty of law, as it seems to be in some places across the pond, or if the person is just that good that I cannot tell what sex they are genetically. Besides, if I am talking to them, the pronoun is you. I don't people well at the best of times, with the unconfused, let alone the confused and/or mentally ill.

APL

As a matter of accommodation, I'm willing to use preferred pronouns

No, not going to play that game. If you start to play the pronoun game, or "call me Doctor because I got a PhD in something" game, or any other "preferred title" game, I will simply avoid speaking or interacting with you. Conversations will be brief, but since you likely have variety of mental issues, I don't think I lose out on anything.

In my own case I have a niece who is demanding pronouns and claiming to be another gender. But as I told my sibling, just because someone wants to be called Napoleon, doesn't mean you should indulge them, and it sure as hell won't help to pretend you're Josephine.

David

If you’ve a taste for the darkly ironic,

Please don’t judge me for what I am doing.

And possibly rather telling.

David

But normal people like me, even the most generous, are not going to play along if playing along makes us look like fools, or turns us into liars.

Shamelessly, he quoted himself:

Taken broadly, we are being asked to affirm, wholesale, a bundle of phenomena that includes not only actual gender dysphoria, whether the result of developmental anomalies or childhood molestation, but also autogynephilia, serious personality disorders, adolescent pretension, and assorted exhibitionist and unsavoury compulsions. The expectation seems to be that we should take these different phenomena, with very different moral connotations, as being one and the same thing, and then defer to them, habitually and uncritically. Which is asking rather more than can readily be agreed to.

We’ve previously noted the ways in which the activism of pronoun stipulators differs from that of other groups with which they are often equated. Someone being gay, for instance, doesn’t generally entail an expectation that the rest of us should pretend that the physical reality we can see is somehow not the case. And unsurprisingly, people may object to being told that they should disregard the obvious and become dishonest on demand, thereby leaving themselves open to any prankster, or bedlamite, or sadistic opportunist in search of leverage.

Some insist that not indulging modish pronouns, including animal pronouns and clown pronouns, and pronouns that can change randomly, several times a day - and being reluctant to indulge any other attendant psychodrama - is a violation of human rights and a basis for severe legal consequences. One might think that coercively eroding the probity of other people, demanding that they lie, and even hallucinate, is a pretty bad thing too. At best, a recipe for grim farce.

Yet here we are.

Stephanie Richer

Every society separates men and women for certain activities. Even in places like scandanavia where there are coed saunas, such saunas are voluntary. Same with nude beaches. But the current trans fad that sees female prisoners getting pregnant from a "female" prisoner violates all the "voluntary" association of the sexes. Take the case of Lia Thomas the swimmer: since he is showering with the female swimmers and has all the male equipment and they have been told to shut up, we can ask what is the limiting principle for when someone must wear clothes? Is it simply the naked man's internal opinion? How can a naked person walking in the street be arrested if we force other women to shower with a naked man? And if this applies in high schools too? Laws are supposed to be consistent to be respected.

@various

"As a matter of accommodation, I'm willing to use preferred pronouns." (My generosity, if you can call it that.)

"No, not going to play that game." (Several posts, in essence.)

And that's the problem. I want to be generous, since there are people who deserve some sympathy and cooperation. (Their situation is pitiable.) Not that any of you are obligated to provide it. Using the pronouns, and keeping up with a certain fiction can be done, without compromise of anyone's honesty. A fiction is a fiction, and not a lie, because an audience knows that it is what is is.

But, I get it. Those who say "No, not going to play that game" aren't ogres. They know the routine--among the activists and those who swallow what they put out. *Give an inch, and they take a mile.* They want you to submit, and to be abused by their whims.

I don't have any significant number of transgender types if my life that I need to deal with. But if it comes to it, with the way things are, I'm only going to be able to be generous in a way that makes clear that I'm not selling out people like the ones on this thread. What I mean: never, ever imply that I'm giving any endorsement of the activists' ideology, just because I'm being thoughtful of some colleague at work. Or something like that.

It's another burden foisted on us by the Left, along with CRT and the other means they are using to get the public under their boots.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

I want to be generous, since there are people who deserve some sympathy and cooperation.

Again, no.

There are people who became iatrogenically addicted to opiates, the solution is not to give them a shot of heroin or a handfull of oxycontin because it wasn't their fault, the solution is to get them off the stuff. These pantomime men and women are not actors on a stage simply playing a part, they are either grifting (e.g., the prisoners), or have mental issues that need to be addressed. Pandering to either does indeed compromise the honesty of both parties when normal people go along with the charades.

It's another burden foisted on us by the Left...

What do you mean "us", kimosabe ? If you let them put another rock in your rucksack, that is on you, not them.

David

And that’s the problem. I want to be generous,

As I’ve said before, I’m generally polite by default, at least in person, and don’t go out of my way to needlessly put a kink in someone else’s day. I’ve had perfectly civil chats with people who regard themselves as transgender or gender-non-conforming or whatever. Nobody got upset. One exchange was actually quite jolly. We made each other laugh – in a good way. But those exchanges didn’t involve someone insisting that I use farcical pronouns, or defer to some irresolvable mental drama, or pretend that things are other than they are.

Hippogryph

@David

Appropriate thoughts. And I think that's near where I draw the line, for myself. If someone *insists* on certain pronouns as if by right, or invites some other farce, I think that's just the instance where I'd withhold.

@Farnsworth M. Muldoon

I understand you. And that's the problem for me. I want to act according to what I think is good and right, in a particular instance for a particular person. See my note to David above, for example. Do I withhold my generosity from a particular person, because of my ire for another? Do I withhold it, strategically, so that it won't be used against me, or against others whom I respect. (e.g., Farnsworth, et al.)

The answer is, in practice, that I'm going to be withholding my generosity sometimes. I'm not even going to call Farnsworth uncharitable. I'm world-wise enough.

PiperPaul

What revenue streams does Twitter have?

WTP

What David said. Though I have not had known personal encounters with any trans beyond the "that's her over there" variety. Though I do totally agree on not participating in the farce if it appears to be a farce. The "toyself" crap is right out. There are people with various genetic defects such that they have these issues. They should be treated with respect. I would also expect such people to be genuinely understanding of society's problem with this issue as well. I have found the two or three blind people whom I have met/known to be very understanding of sighted (sighties as my former friend called us) awkwardness around them and I really don't think it is much to ask the trans to be as understanding. If they cannot respect society's concerns, it is a HUGE indication to me that their issues are not genuine and thus attention seeking.

Hippogryph

@WTP @David

Interesting thoughts from WTP, on sympathy for the ill and the damaged. Transgender-ism is for some a surrender to a mental illness---a dysphoria that that person could not defeat. A transgender person of that sort is someone who has been beaten, who has given in. It's not a matter of being brave, or being loyal to one's 'true self'. I feel pity for sufferers of such an extremity of gender dysphoria.

But, transgender-ism is for others turning into attention-seeking, abusiveness, and worse. The mental illness at stake seems more often to be of the *Cluster B* variety. I think David has documented some fine examples on this blog. I feel no pity at all for these sorts.

I do hate to treat Group 1 as if they are Group 2. But I don't want to play into the hands of Group 2. This is Farnsworth's and others' point. I acknowledge that the primary result of the recent Left push of transgender-ism to to vastly multiply the population of Group 2.

ccscientist

Saw an email from someone with the footer:
Pronouns S/H/T
which I assume means she/he/they but would be pronounced "shit"
maybe they were supposed to pick one or something and forgot, but if someone uses she and he and they, they have lost me.
The problem for me is when it becomes official at work that people list pronouns on their emails which then implies that you better use them or else. Not cool.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

Hippogryph,

But those exchanges didn’t involve someone insisting that I use farcical pronouns, or defer to some irresolvable mental drama, or pretend that things are other than they are.

This. This is where you can be generous, and still draw a line. If you are talking to a pantomime man or woman directly, there is no reason to use third person pronouns anyway, and if you are having a reasonable and polite conversation fine to a point, but if the guy has a beard and male pattern baldness, insists on being called she and invites you to perform acts on his girl johnson, just say no, or better still, sod off, swampy.

You are under no moral or (as yet) legal obligation to indulge in other's grifts or delusions, not doing so does not make you ungenerous or a bad person.

This guy gets it.

ComputerLabRat

Seconding David. If I am actually talking to the person in question, the pronoun to be used is "you". I may or may not use the name they've chosen - but again, no need to really, when in a conversation with them. How I speak of people when they are not around is not to be dictated by them, any more than I can control how they speak of me when I am not around.

Further to the idea of generosity and accommodation, and the non-affirming ways we treat alcoholics and drug addicts: why do we not affirm the very real body dysphoria of anorexics? Why is this debate only about the trans and not about people who are anorexic, people who think they are Napoleon, people who think they are another race, or people with any of the other very real (to them) delusions and dysphorias? Why are the trans people special? Because they say so?

Farnsworth M Muldoon

Transgender-ism is for some a surrender to a mental illness---a dysphoria that that person could not defeat.

Yes, there are some of those, but of the "trans" population they a minority of a minority and the question has to be asked why the person couldn't get his or her mind right, as it were.

At the same time, however, there are people with body integrity disorder and want to become disabled. The fundamental difference between thinking you "are in the wrong body" and having wrong body parts is vanishingly small, yet we don't (yet) lop off arms and legs, blind (though there are those who have done to themselves), or sever spinal cords of those with BID. Given that, why are people in a rush to maim people, particularly kids, ho claim to be "trans"?

Why are the trans people special? Because they say so?

Pretty much, and loudly.

I might, on some occasions, go one step farther than David and use a "he" or "she" pronoun. I'm thinking here of a potential co-worker---I'm in a position of responsibility at a large industrial concern. I help keep people's electrical power on. I shouldn't just tell someone to sod off, if that person is behaving with basic dignity, doing the job as engineer, and *not* making a spectacle or farce. And its not my role to save people from themselves and their transgender-ism. Again--electrical power, that's what I care about.

But yes. Someone trying to suck me into some farce is a different thing, entirely.

I can't go one-size-fits-all in the way I respond to transgender-ism.

(All that said, if some Leftist or Karen starts banging on Chris Rock or JK Rowling, or even somehow discovers our own Mr. Muldoon, I'm going to defend each of them.)

Back to Musk, not satire.

Hmmm...look like satire, smells like satire.

ccscientist

Musk: they have been banging on for ages about how Titter (not a typo) is a private company so they can do what they want...but a private company can be bought. That is what the word means. There is a curious inversion these days where a handful of students dictate policy to the college, even to the extent of demanding and getting a minority-only student center or whatever. Where a few employees at a publishing house demand that a book not be published--profits be damned. They have been allowed to get away with this for so long they are bringing their bullying to their employment.
I just have to add that the hysteria about Musk is like so much of the hysteria these days: it is feminine. Women (not some of the fine women here of course) freak out about a mouse in the house or a bug in their hair. They become hysterical about things and cry to get their way. That is how society has become. Whining and wailing about trivia. And everyone has become so thin skinned. ugh

WTP

Women Hysterically Indignant about Nearly Everything. Apologies to Al Capp. People blame social media for these problems. I believe it was on Insty where there was a post yesterday about someone speaking to TN Senator Lamar Alexander about why our society has gone off the rails (or some such) and he, according to the story anyway, walked over to his desk, picked up his cell phone and waved it saying "social media". What BS. And how dramatic. Probably never happened exactly like that but it reads well for the hysterical types. The fault has been there for decades now, growing in magnitude, and yes modern tech has accelerated it. But the most common denominator in all of this is the penchant for society, both men and women, to cave in to hysterical females.

My cigarette and blindfold if you will kind sir...

Nope, this clown is the Target Toothbrush Guy whose hissy fit didn't exactly go to plan.

[...] and always tried to find a nice pic of Hilary.

Which explains the constant recycling of pics.

WTP

Yes. Privileged prick. I looked him up later. Daddy was prof at Stanford and mommy some sort of activist. Boy went to Yale. Born in 1961. Has anyone read any of his stories? A huge, entitled clown barking for people to be banned from Twitter.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

Different guy, but the rest seems spot on, this is the bozo.

Gaming writer David Leavitt tweeted in the midst of the confusion, “MULTIPLE CONFIRMED FATALITIES at Manchester Arena. The last time I listened to Ariana Grande I almost died too.”

Class act.

WTP

Bah. I was wrong. That is twice today. But it is Thursday. And I am a bit under the weather...

I do hate to treat Group 1 as if they are Group 2

You're making the mistake of treating them as mutually exclusive categories. They aren't. The definition of a cluster B personality disorder is that it's the result of complex PTSD. Remember, 90%+ of people with severe dysmorphia were sexually abused as children (all the commenters who want to treat them as freaks deserving of a beatdown, do keep in mind you're talking about child sex abuse victims here). But a rabid dog isn't any less dangerous because it's his fault; these people need isolation, treatment, and not indulging their self-destructive coping mechanisms.

Go on. Follow it all the way through. You're almost there.

So as for Musk: an interesting gambit. He can't lose; if the takeover bid succeeds, he deprives the prog left of one of their greatest weapons. If he's blocked - which would require extraordinary and extralegal measures - not only has he pulled off the mother of all pump and dumps, he'll have forced the US government to reveal its cozy relationship with Big Social.

Of course if he does somehow succeed he's going to be the target of every alphabet agency for the rest of his life. Hopefully that arc reactor project is close to completion.

Daniel Ream

Dammit. Because it's not his fault.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

...all the commenters who want to treat them as freaks deserving of a beatdown...

Which, of course, no one suggested.

ccscientist

As to beatdowns, I wouldn't care so much if so many of them didn't end up as teachers.

Darleen

The issue is how do you separate out the "sincere" and "true" dysmophics from the obvious cheats like Lia* Thomas or grifters like Jessica* Yaniv? Not to mention the "drag" queens who are on the sex offender registry gaining access to kids at library reading times.

I have deep compassion for people struggling with addiction or mental illness. I have none for people who claim the victimology in order to target and exploit women and minors.

Do they have free will or not? If the abuse that was done to them makes them incapable of interacting in a civilized manner with the rest of society, then they should be isolated from the rest of society.

And, yes, I can certainly imagine how horrible that can (and thus will) turn out to be for everyone involved. Especially given the weasel wording of "incapable of interacting in a civilized manner with the rest of society"; no way THAT will be weaponized, you betcha.

While almost everyone deviates from the norm (https://www.rush.com/songs/vital-signs/), it would be nice to stay with 2 standard deviations from said norm. (Given the clientele in these parts, I expect to pummeled relentlessly about my inappropriate application of basic statistical concepts. I'll preemptively mention that those doing the pummeling will likely be correct in doing so.)

Daniel Ream

If he's blocked - which would require extraordinary and extralegal measures

It's already started: former SEC heads are publicly advocating aggressive investigations of every business Musk owns. Anything to stop him.

how do you separate out the "sincere" and "true" dysmophics from the obvious cheats

Easy: look for meaningfully self-destructive behaviour. The dysmorphia stems from a deep self-loathing, no different from cutting, drug abuse, or other attempts by previous generations to stave off suicide with lesser attempts at self-destruction. I said the same thing a long time ago about alleged "feminist rape survivors". Will Thomas isn't on hormones, hasn't had surgery, has done nothing that would permanently affect him. I think Jonathan Yaniv actually does have CPTSD, but remember what I said about rabid dogs, and the primary factor in adult sexual abuse of children. People that clearly damaged do not need "societal acceptance", "societal tolerance", or god forbid celebration; they need intensive therapy and probably institutionalization until they can keep their destructive and self-destructive impulses under control.

Not to mention the "drag" queens who are on the sex offender registry gaining access to kids at library reading times.

That's a whole different problem. There's no excuse whatsoever for rational adults exposing children to people with dangerous mental illness and celebrating it. I can't fathom how or why parents have allowed this to go on as long and as far as it has.

Twitter has suspended Libs of Tik Tok for "hateful conduct".

I've been wondering, David, if your blog might be vulnerable. After all, you and your commenters are hardly reticent in taking note of the left's insane delusions. Has Typepad suspended or terminated any other blogs for offending the sensibilities of the left? Regardless, do you back up your archives somewhere?

David

I've been wondering, David, if your blog might be vulnerable.

Typepad don’t seem anywhere near as censorious (or active) as Twitter. I’ve not heard of anyone on the platform being shut down for their failure to be sufficiently progressive. It doesn’t strike me as the kind of platform where that’s much of an issue, or where heated political rumblings occur very often. Present company excepted.

That's good to hear. I do worry about this.

Watcher In The Dark

I shouldn't, but I will: "Hey there, you look wheelie, wheelie nice. I'd love to be friends with you, because it's bin so long since someone was wheelie nice to me."
