Womenfolk, Know Your Place

And in sports news:

An adult biological male who identifies as a woman edged out a 13-year-old girl to take first place in a women’s skateboarding contest held in New York Saturday.

Sometimes reality is a little too on-the-nose.

Update, via the comments, where Melofon adds,

Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire takes a brave stand in favour of ... the tradition and competitive integrity of the sport of women’s skateboarding. Opening itself up to the (correct) rebuttal that it has no interest in skateboarding or women in skateboarding, and is only covering it to pick on the tranny.

Well, I doubt that ladies’ skateboarding is a regular topic of conversation at the Daily Wire, or among its readers, but the particulars of the sport are not the thing that’s most interesting. There is a wider context, of which the above is very much part. I would guess that readers are more likely to be interested in the pretence that unwell men can become women, seemingly by dint of wishing, and are therefore to be admitted, unopposed, into women’s sports and women’s intimate spaces. The Daily Wire’s readers may even regard this trend, correctly, as pretentious, unrealistic, and unhappy in its implications.

To register this phenomenon - and its wide and rapid spread - as noteworthy is rather more than, as Melofon puts it, picking on the tranny.

More details of the skateboarding saga can be found here.

Readers will note that several wins by dysmorphic men have occurred in women’s skateboarding, and that female players who aren’t entirely happy with this arrangement find themselves assailed by trans activists for daring to complain. Again, the issue isn’t ladies’ skateboarding as such, but rather the ongoing and widespread efforts to normalise something that’s quite odd, one might say surreal, and often unjust.

If another example is required, one that shows, quite vividly, just how awry things can get…

Ladies, meet Tyler.

Note that, being scrupulously woke, the women’s shelter sided, quite emphatically, with the male interloper. A man who is seriously mentally ill, who boasts of stabbing people and is very excited by the thought of poisoning the water supply, and who seems to enjoy taunting the abused women with whom he shares a space by making sure they see his erection.

Despite what would seem to be a full board of flashing red lights, the woke administrators denounced criticism of their policy – and concern for the actual women subjected to his proximity - as “transphobic.” Concerns regarding the inaptness of his presence, and its implications for the women’s safety at a time of vulnerability, were dismissed as unworthy of acknowledgement: “We refuse to engage in a dialogue that gives a platform to transphobic groups or individuals or otherwise does damage to women who are transgender.” Instead, the shelter’s administrators insisted, proudly, on being “non-judgmental.”

It would, I think, be a plausible premise for a psychological horror film. Not one I’d care to watch, mind you, but still.

And if someone, or an entire institution, can be fundamentally compromised on something so glaringly obvious, with the sociopathy staring them in the face, where is the upper limit of all this pious pretending? What bridge would be too far?

Update 2:

And no, the above is not some one-off aberration.

Consider this an open thread. Share ye links and bicker.

What makes it even crazier, is that by simply existing a corp is already "doing good".

I shake my head at these fools who think it is not enough for a company to hire people based solely on their skills--that they must have hiring and promotion quotas based on race (and eventually sexuality, non-Christian religion, etc.) What could be more corrupting? Or harmful to the competitive strength of the company? Not to mention fostering resentment and other pathologies by rewarding people out of proportion to their merit.

Top Gun: Maverick

What a great movie!! This sequel, IMHO, exceeds the original. And it is the great, grand, big screen experience that has been SO lacking in the last few years. Everything is pitch perfect.

I never saw the original film,

Neither had my husband. It's running on Amazon Prime video right now so we watched it over the weekend. He thought it was a good movie but a tad formula. After seeing Maverick, he agrees that the sequel is even better.

Another thing I really like is that the flying sequences are real, not CGI. The actors are sitting in the 2nd seat of the F18s with cameras so staged they look like they're piloting and it's Navy pilots really taking them through the paces. You can practically feel the g forces through the screen. You just can't fake how a body reacts during the climbs, dives, rolls these actors went through.

pst314: hiring based on nepotism or being buddies with someone (unions) or based on spouting the right ideology (communism, socialism) leads to huge inefficiencies. Unions end up costing twice as much and take twice as long to do a job. Sometimes they extend work by years (NYC subway tunnels, big dig boston). A society that is not efficient is poorer. Lots poorer. Rank incompetence can be deadly too. We hired an incompetent plumber back in college and the water heater he fixed had an exhaust pipe into a chimney full of bricks. The water heater exploded. Fortunately no one was home. We currently have rainbow diversity people running a bunch of federal agencies just because they are gay or trans, and they are grossly incompetent. don't know beans.

Re the skateboarding story, 'from something they haven't chosen to defend themselves against' is fairly clearly untrue, as there are female skateboarders speaking out about the issue. As for skateboarding 'not being a real sport,' it is an individual sport, like surfing, skiing, snowboarding, motorsports, that requires skill in which there is no team to fall back on, and thus has little appeal to the ball-sport fanatics. The X Games are an attempt to market many of the individual 'extreme sports,' whether or not the 'flailing' around appeals to all, or earns one enough to purchase weed is of little concern. The activity is often undertaken for the simple pleasure of doing so, to not comprehend this and to denigrate the athletes says much.

WTP

Naomi Wolf has a similar message.

Ms. Wolf comes close but if she made this point I missed it as I kinda skimmed through the latter half. And this is the BIG point that I have seen ZERO conservatives hit. I'm sure someone out there besides myself must have hit on this and written about it but if so it hasn't been replicated to where I have seen it. This overturn of RvW is even more the fault of the hard, extreme pro-choice crowd because had the Mississippi law, one that is much more in line with what the vast majority are fine with, pro-choice and those ok with first trimester (not sure if there's a specific category for these people even though just this group is probably > 50%)...a law very much in line with what many countries in Europe have and even less restrictive than some...if that law had not been challenged, we would effectively have legal abortions up to 15 weeks or whatever the MS law stated. But no. The left could not let that stand. They had to take this case to the SCOTUS when it was bloody obvious they had a conservative leaning court. It should be bloody obvious who is to blame for driving this at this point and even more bloody obvious what the overall intent is. But will conservatives..."conservatives" use this opportunity to bash the left? No. The overwhelming spiking of the football that is going on, while some of it being understandable after a 50 year fight, but the rush right now is to push banning all abortions from conception. This being a long-term losing position. After much hysteria and putting the slam-dunk 2022 mid-terms to some extent at risk, they will lose. I pray that DeSantis does not take the bait and sticks to letting the legislature deal with the existing/pending(?) rollback from 24 to 15 weeks or something similar down to 12 weeks, which is what most people agree with.

But then again, it wasn't until just now that I realized that 'caricature' does not have an 'h' in it...and bloody spellcheck had no idea what I was getting at...but I digress...

Interesting about Gen Shafter but it does seem he had a rather glorious career before settling down to 3, 4, 5 decent meals a day. But could Gen. Shafter throw back a liter of vodka a day? Hmmm? I got lost trying to find any other info on this Russian General Pavel. As for skateboarding 'not being a real sport,'

Sports are entertainment, period. The prizes in a sport are a direct reflection of how much people are willing to spend to watch that sport. This is why competitive Street Fighter IV leagues, cup stacking, and skateboarding are not real sports: the prizes are worth less than the equipment required to participate.

Richard Cranium

@WTP, you could read https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/284419.The_Bear_Went_Over_the_Mountain to get an idea about how the USSR handled things in the 'Stan back in the day. If you haven't been in the Army (or Marines), it won't be an especially easy read.

As for General Shafter, I could point to ISBN 0-253-31075-0 "The Art of War: Waterloo to Mons" by William McElwee which contains lines such as

It was on 26 May 1898 that orders to load 25,000 men and their equipment on to [sic] the transports already assembled in Tampa Bay reached General William R. Shafter, a gouty veteran of the Civil War so obese that when he sat on two biscuit boxes to preside over operational conferences his belly hung below his knees.

He did a good job of managing the Cuban portion of that particular conflict. Make of that what you will.

Ehhh, that's not quite how it works. More accurately, Canada has no abortion laws whatsoever - they were struck down in their entirety via the Morgentaler decision.

The various provinces have regulations, and the provincial medical colleges have their own codes &c., but there's no criminal restrictions at all. Provinces can't create their own criminal laws, that's exclusively federal jurisdiction. So a doctor could potentially lose their license or be fined by their college or something but that's about it.

When you don’t say what the rules are until afterwards:

In the wee hours of Monday morning, June 21, down came the Reddit ban hammer. The popular subreddit TumblrInAction, with almost 500,000 active users, and its little sister sub, SocialJusticeInAction, with 96,000 users, each received a no-warning ban for “promoting hate” on the platform…

It might seem strange in retrospect, but until the ban, the subs had been in Reddit’s good graces without a single significant issue or warning before this year. Just six months ago, a Reddit administrator reached out to [TumblrInAction moderator,] Hatman to let him know that TIA would be in danger of a ban if they didn’t enforce an unwritten rule about “identity invalidation,” or as Hatman told me, “Basically, the idea that if we don’t affirm someone’s self-identity, we’re engaging in hate speech,” no matter how serious or silly it may be.

You will pretend, or else.

Elsewhere, why black kids should study Larkin.

The poetry critic Jeremy Noel-Tod argues in a piece for the New Statesman that someone like Larkin should be replaced by the Nigerian writer Wole Soyinka. He writes that, “as a white teenager growing up in rural Norfolk in the Nineties, I wish my teachers had taken the chance to talk about the Soyinka poem in class”, because the Nigerian poet “might have helped us to understand structural racism as the scaffolding of the home country we took for granted”. If Noel-Tod wants to argue Soyinka is as good a poet as Larkin, fair enough, but his argument doesn’t reference art or merit. He is treating poetry as a sub-set of sociology — arguing that we should read non-white poets because they offer us insights into social and political issues.

Daniel Ream

the women’s shelter sided, quite emphatically, with the male interloper

I have some direct experience with the women's shelter network in Canada. Like most charity gigs, helping its clients is not even remotely part of its agenda. It's a make-work program for otherwise unemployable radical feminists. Their internal "counselling" programs damage their clients even more by encouraging them to see all men as The Enemy and keep them in a perpetual state of "I am a Victim, see how damaged I am". Most of the employees and a fair number of the bureaucrats are former clients.

They've simply figured out that to keep the government funding going, they have to spout the Party Line, which right now in Canada is that a single dysmorphic beats a full house, rape victims over battered women.

Elsewhere, why black kids should study Larkin.

"This is not a male or stale sentiment" - his argument being that Larkin, who most people would think is deeply rooted in England, is untainted by the sentiments of the people he belongs to, and is therefore safe for the egos of minorities who live among those people but fear, hate, and resent them.

The embarrassing existence of talented writers who are Englishmen is alibi'd by (1) he's universal, or (2) his references to English life are the subversive satire of an outsider mentality. One almost-universal sentiment that English writers aren't supposed to admit to or expand upon is the sentiment of not being ashamed of where you're from or who your people are.

Unlike English intellectuals or their resentful proteges, foreigners who go to the trouble of reading the English literature of the country of England often do so, strangely enough, because they see some value in finding out how Englishwomen and, God help us, even Englishmen look at the world.

It's just cash for the machine. It's offensive that food donated by local people to emergency workers right down the street would get passed through a "charity" which then asks those hungry workers for cash in trade for a homemade peanut butter & jelly sandwich.

They were "donations" just like many offices used to (does it happen anymore?) collect a donation of a dollar or two on Fridays for the privilege of wearing denim pants. "Gosh, it would be nice to be a bit more comfortable at work on Friday! What do you mean I'm supporting drag queen story hour?"

@Muldoon, thanks for the link to the original book!

I would claim that the late 1970s/early 1980s Soviet Union believed their own propaganda; the Romans knew that you can exterminate everyone and call that a peace. At some point, you have a population that doesn't want to be integrated with yours. You can move them somewhere else where they may live, exterminate them, or some odd mixture of the two (killing a subset of humans tends to piss off the survivors/relatives of the exterminated subset, so it's a bit of a non-starter).

But, you can be part of the glorious people's republic!

The parallels to what the US did are depressingly similar, although I'm not aware of books on that subject.

Twitter Suspends Jordan Peterson…

So, the Twitter howler monkeys – their blue hairs, as it were - want us to believe that Dr Peterson was trying to “threaten, harass,” and/or “promote violence” against Ms Page by using the word “her.” “Violence” being defined by said howler monkeys as the “misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals.” But which party is really doing the misgendering? Ms Page is a mutilated woman with mental health issues, of which she has spoken often, not a man. And it isn’t clear to me why the tragic fantasies of such people should be allowed to inhibit, among everyone else, even a fleeting acknowledgement of objective reality. But it seems we’re supposed to believe, or at least pretend, that when the woman named Ellen Page was having her breasts removed, she wasn’t actually a woman having her breasts removed.

Coming out at Panera (and other extremely heterosexual restaurants)

It's odd, but I've never found the need to proclaim my sexuality in restaurants. It's not as if my meal is dependant on me announcing loudly to assembled diners, "Everyone - I'm gay, and I'd like to order brunch, please." And just what would an extremely homosexual restaurant look like anyway? Would the menus be filled with innuendo-laden options like cock soup, meat balls and spotted dick? Would my food order be brought to the table with a side-serving of "I am what I am" sprinkled with a garnish of "YMCA"? And as for tipping the waiter, that's something which has "comical misunderstanding" written all over it...

Farnsworth M Muldoon

Coming out at Panera (and other extremely heterosexual restaurants)

I see, apparently it is heterosexual because they tend to be in the suburbs and there are more non-"queer" people there than in the Castro district, even though they changed to name to Panera from St. Louis Bread Company - probably because St. Louis claims to be the gateway to western expansion and colonialism, genocide, etc., etc.

Meanwhile...

You don’t have to come out at Waffle House. Every part of you is instantly illuminated by the fluorescents when you walk through the door at three in the morning. Waffle House knows you’re queer before you do...

Right. Waffle House has absorbed all the redneck vibes and can spot one of them queers a mile away - or something. These people are barking mad.

pst314

Would the menus be filled with innuendo-laden options...

In addition to my general wish to avoid annoying and obnoxious people, I would not trust such in-your-face restaurant employees. If they are so psychologically damaged as to need to constantly proclaim their sexuality in public in explicit ways, I would wonder what else they might do. I have, for instance, learned of a few sexually messed up people who were caught doing reprehensibly illegal sexual things to the food. And then there are all the cases of people contaminating food because they disliked the customers for racial or religious reasons.

Just an aside - but after clicking thru a few linkages, I did notice that most/all of those pictured are... how to put this,er... "full figured" folks. Chunky, as it were.

These people are barking mad.

I started to think a while ago that the benefits of widespread instant global communications may not outweigh the negatives.

Personally, I've somewhat comforted that those who I suspected were farking nutzo are willing to show that they are, indeed, farking nutz. I've noted before that each family has always had a loopy Uncle/Aunt/Whatever lurking in the far reaches of the family tree, but now with endless communications, well... they're not far enough away...

I logged back on to do something, but now I cannot remember what.

While on a family vacation in the US my brother-in-law and I fancied a proper breakfast and headed to the local Waffle House to enjoy their world-class waffles, eggs, hash browns all-ways (that means with all 8 toppings before you ask) and bloody good coffee.

Inadvertently choosing similar coloured polo shirts was, with hindsight, a mistake as became obvious the moment we stepped inside.

Some good news.

Yaniv gets suspended sentence? WTF. Speaking of "barking mad"--a wonderful expression. All this suspended sentence stuff is very dangerous. If I remember correctly, the nut who drove into the wisconsin parade killing 6 had 22 convictions--why was he out of jail? The molotov cocktail throwing NYC antifa guys who threw it at a police car with cops in it (ie attempted murder) got a very light sentence. No arrests at all for antifa trying to burn down federal office buildings with officers inside.

pst314

That is good news.

But have you noticed that Wikipedia articles never give the birth names of trans people? A "curious" omission, given Wikipedia's claimed interest in accurate and complete information.

That's why I said "good" instead of "great". And it *is* Canada, too, which has notoriously stomped its government boot on the necks of anyone non-progressive, so that the judge has put some serious restrictions on Yaniv rather than having Billboard Chris dragged out of court in chains is very much in the win column.
