How Dare You Not Defer To My Lack Of Self-Possession.

A “queer person and educator” is asked not to swear and scream in the workplace. Loud outrage ensues.

Objections to being shouted at, and sworn at, are framed with great haste as a sign of complicity in oppression: “Tone-policing is rooted in colonialism and white supremacy,” we’re told. In short, then, when a suitably black or gay person shouts at you, you “need to be quiet and listen” - and by implication, you should promptly defer, however wrong or ridiculous, or nakedly opportunist, the shouting person may be. You must “validate” their rage, and any incoherence, with lots of silent nodding, before rolling submissively onto your back. Because, being members of a Designated Victim Group, even if irrelevant or based on nothing whatsoever, they matter, and clearly, you don’t. What with all that “privilege” you apparently have. And because reciprocal courtesies just ain’t woke. It’s the progressive pecking order. Know your place.

You’re A Monster, Just Admit It.

If you aren’t keen to become fat, activist William Hornby thinks you must be racist.

Mr Hornby is, of course, “raising awareness,” a mission that entails steering his followers to a Fat Liberation Syllabus For Revolutionary Leftists, where we learn that, “Fat liberation is a radical anti-capitalist, anti-colonial, anti-state movement that was started by fat Black and Brown disabled queer and trans people.” And where we’re told, quite emphatically, that a reluctance to become fat is “intrinsically entangled with white supremacy, anti-Blackness, settler colonialism, and capitalism.” And therefore, obviously, really, really bad. The goal, then, for all chubby-and-enlightened people, is to “abolish capitalism and settler colonial states like the US,” along with “abolishing prisons and police,” and dismantling the “fatphobic logic of productivity, discipline, and personal responsibility.” One can only hope that this revolutionary project doesn’t involve stairs or significant exertion.

It Says ‘Poison’ In Large Red Letters

A reminder that the absurd and the sinister aren’t mutually exclusive.

Given the eye-widening content of the educational material, it’s worth comparing the readiness to comply of so many educators, with the reactions of parents, including immigrant and minority parents, who are belatedly discovering what exactly their children are being taught. All in the name of “equity” and “social justice.” It seems to me that if someone – say, a middle-school teacher – doesn’t find the idea of inculcating racial guilt at all troubling and is happy with the prospect of children’s personalities being disintegrated, such that they become estranged from friends and parents, and such that they can’t sleep, then this should be ringing alarm bells. Quite loudly.

Well, it was right there. And I’m only human.

I was browsing the subsequent thread when this caught my eye:

It occurs to me that quite a few fat woke-lings have seen the cowing power of racism accusations, even false or ludicrous ones, and want some of that leverage. The tactical advantages of insinuating racism, however incongruously, are fairly obvious. As is the kind of person who would use such rhetorical horseshit against others.

Bears repeating, I think.

Well, since "queer educator" Amber Leventry dismisses as "tone policing" any objection to what she says, then she cannot object when we tell her she is a scumbag.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

I can't imagine where this poor kid got his strange notions.

David

Well, since “queer educator” Amber Leventry dismisses as “tone policing” any objection to what she says,

Ms Leventry, a dysmorphic woman, does seem to have, um, issues, not least regarding anger. And her politics does seem to be an elaborate rationalisation for behaving obnoxiously. Say, when teaching her small children to scream profanities at passers-by, or when screaming abuse herself at the merest opportunity.

pst314

Ms Leventry, a dysmorphic woman, does seem to have, um, issues, not least regarding anger.

I can personally testify to the problems that such a person causes. In the organization that I do volunteer work for, the accountant gets unjustifiably angry and uses foul language in virtually every meeting. Not only does this make it much more difficult to get information and make decisions, it leaves everyone stressed out and emotionally exhausted. It takes me hours to fully calm down and the president, who is older than me, sometimes has to take a nap. But the accountant thinks that his grossly uncivil behavior is no big deal and laughs.

pst314

From the same link, in the comments: Harvard epidemiologist in Mao hat wants ‘accountability’ for anti-lockdown academics.

What sort of "accountability" should Justin Feldman face now that evidence is accumulating for the harmfulness of severe lockdowns, the rather limited effectiveness of the mRNA vaccines, and the superiority of naturally acquired immunity? Should he be "held accountable" in ways inspired by the policies of Mao that he admires so much? Seems like a very fair question to put to him.

Apolitical arson is the best arson.

“I do think you have a lot of gifts to give,” the judge said.

fat phobia is white and racist? Tell that to my slim, fit black neighbors. Or to Japan where fat is really not common. You want to be crippled by age 60? Gain 60lbs.

Shouting: it is not easy for large groups of humans to work together or share a bus or plane. Civilized behavior enables this to work. You can call it "tone policing" if you want. We had a guy with a temper scream at people in a meeting whom we needed cooperation from (ie not employees). He was fired within hours. He was white, why do you ask? We have taught our small grandchildren to say please and thank you and (mostly) to not yell. Ages 2, 3. It is not that hard but if you let them be feral, you get feral. Resentment and anger are not good social lubricants.

The disconnect between millions of brown people crossing our southern border for the good life and the claims of how awful and racist the US is, so awful that the only solution is to "dismantle" it, does not seem to bother any of these clowns.

ccscientist

arson: the conceit that all these people are "exhausted from fighting racism" is really precious. The median income for black and white women is almost identical. Blacks with a college degree make slightly more than whites with one. The big gap is for black men who have spent time in jail. It is an inner-cite cultural problem. The solution is NOT a get-out-of-jail-free card, though this is what the Left wants. Amy Wax had it right, so of course they are trying to destroy her.

pst314

but if you let them be feral, you get feral.

Indeed. Our president has remarked, "He's been this way all his life. He's not going to change now." So we all spend extra time looking for ways to minimize his volatile reactions to any unwelcome information. There are no other accountants in the available pool of potential volunteers, and it's hard to get people to volunteer anyway. Grrr.

pst314

Meanwhile in Pennsylvania...

I wonder what she did to the pizza manager to start the initial confrontation.

David

Not only does this make it much more difficult to get information and make decisions, it leaves everyone stressed out and emotionally exhausted.

As I said in the post,

It is, for instance, generally easier to process calm speech and to formulate a meaningful response. Dealing with agitation and temper isn’t often conducive to mutual understanding, and it’s hard not to be defensive when someone is shouting and swearing at you. Needless to say, fits of vehemence and impatience aren’t the most obvious path to nuance and the clear communication of detail. And it may, of course, be the case that the person doing the shouting and shrieking is simply a bully and accustomed to getting their own way by means of decibels and arm-flailing.

And if your arguments are contrived and aren’t remotely load-bearing, as is the case with Ms Leventry, then shrieking and arm-flailing would be a handy distraction and a way to prevail anyway. If only because the targets of such bullying don’t care to hang around in order to argue back and point out all of the errors.

Farnsworth M Muldoon

I wonder what she did to the pizza manager to start the initial confrontation.

There are two Milano's pizza joints in Pittsburgh:

Dawson had been vocal in protesting Milano’s after a manager at the Uptown location, Mahmut Yilmaz, was accused of attacking and assaulting Jade Martin on Jan. 12, 2018.

A video of the attack went viral, and the manager was charged. But he was later found not guilty.

Because she did not get the desired outcome of the trial, our protester resorted to the apolitical arson at both locations, as one does, of course.

pst314

...a manager at the Uptown location, Mahmut Yilmaz, was accused of attacking and assaulting Jade Martin on Jan. 12, 2018.

She accused the manager. But I'll bet she started the incident, either by assaulting the manager or by threatening him or otherwise raising a ruckus so that he needed to throw her ass out.

WTP

Maybe our Pittsburgh pizza protester was actually trying to get into the Allegheny County Jail. With its beautiful views of the Mon river, health care services, physical fitness equipment, and inmate personal tablet program. Ever think of that? Say maybe in your home owners association documents? Just curious.

pst314

Hmmm. Depends.

Big news from the White House: Biden finished meal and showed his cleaned plate.

pst314

Maybe I'm weird but...has anyone ever heard of a true lesbian orgy?

Off-hand I cannot remember hearing of one. From everything I've read and heard and seen, lesbians are dramatically less inclined towards the sort of promiscuity that gay men are known for, and especially the extreme promiscuity they are notorious for:
Very old joke:
Q: What do lesbians do on a second date?
A: Rent a trailer.
Q: What do gay men do on a second date?
A: What second date?

Stereotypes are of course stereotypes, and individuals vary. I have known a few lesbians who were promiscuous, picking women up in bars for one night stands, or even brief "encounters" in bathrooms, but I never heard of any of them participating in orgies.

Darleen

Stereotypes are of course stereotypes, and individuals vary

True, but the difference between gays and lesbians is not really their orientation but their sex.

General truth: men are much more variety oriented in sex and are willing to do more extreme things as sexual thrill is the goal. Women certainly enjoy sex but the thrill isn't the end goal, sex is part of achieving and enjoying an exclusive partnership.

It does seem to be the general pattern. Over the years, I’ve lost count of the “social justice” howler monkeys whose grandiose outpourings – published on their own websites and in their own official press releases, and often about “inclusive excellence” - are littered with typos, grammatical errors, and bewildering non-sequiturs. As if consistent tenses and basic proof-reading were outrageous expectations and a crushing imposition.

A philosophy of carelessness and incompetence that some are happy to make explicit. Say, professional educators - teachers of writing, no less - who take over a year to write a simple 500-word press release.

John D

As if consistent tenses and basic proof-reading were outrageous expectations and a crushing imposition.

"Intriguing prose". LOL

David

“Intriguing prose”. LOL

Well, if you’re employed by a university, ostensibly to cultivate excellence, and your own prepared text – published on a university website on the subject of said excellence – contains umpteen glaring blunders, in practically every paragraph, and four grammatical howlers in a single sentence - and nobody notices or bothers to correct them - then the word irony scarcely seems adequate.

[ Added: ]

Given sufficiently high doses of female hormones, and given sufficiently zealous pumping, some men can indeed be made to secrete a substance from their nipples, albeit in limited quantities, though the resulting discharge is of no nutritional value to the infant. That this discharge is wholly inadequate and basically an exercise in dysmorphic role-play doesn’t seem to matter much to those who enthuse. As noted by Dr Bowen in the article,

What comes out of a man’s nipple is not mother’s milk, but a watery substance devoid of antibodies and nutrients that are found in mother’s milk, the composition of which changes as the baby grows up.

But hey, screw the hungry baby. Let’s focus on affirming the dysmorphic man.

No.

Breast milk, "milk, human milk, mother's own milk, parent's milk, father's milk"

Breastfeeding mother or nursing mother, "lactating parent, lactating person; combinations may be used for clarity such as 'brestfeeding mothers and lactating parents'"

From the article, Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine Position Statement and Guideline: Infant Feeding and Lactation-Related Language and Gender in "Breastfeeding Medicine".

"The premier journal providing evidence-based information for understanding the complexities and benefits of breastfeeding for mother and infant. This indispensable resource covers a wide range of lactation medicine topics including epidemiologic and physiologic benefits, breastfeeding protocols, and the health risks of artificial feeding."

Because nothing says "evidence-based and indispensable" like thinking men can breastfeed, though I am triggered by "...breastfeeding for mother...", that is bordering on fascist non-inclusion.

A lot of our homeless problem would be alleviated by bringing back asylums. I don't mean the kind that tortured people and did lobotomies, but the kind where non-functional people could be safe and have a routine. There used to be such. People who were crazy or just non-functional could live there with a simple job--most had farms attached and other simple businesses like a laundry. They had dorms and regular meal times. If these were available, you could give people who poop on lawns a choice: get it together or go to the asylum.

Pst314, could at least one of the female employees go to Human Resources and tell them the shouty accountant makes her feel unsafe? That should straighten things out.

I believe this was a volunteer board for a charity or similar that pst is on. I am beginning to suspect that there is a concerted effort to drive off sane, normal, rational people from such organizations and leave what remains as vulnerable pickings for the lawyers. The very kind of sane, rational people such organizations need do not stick around long due to the insanity or perceptions of legal risk. Or maybe it has always been thus. That much like psychiatry, a disproportional number of nasty and stupid types are drawn to these positions. Either would explain why that in spite of the amount of resources thrown at problems, they just continue to get worse.

Lady Theo

I wish our prisons were serving nutritious food and keeping the inmates safe from violence. Perhaps Dalrymple was referring to British facilities.

My son is in prison. He can't maintain his 150 lbs on prison food. He has been beaten nearly to death. Drugs are brought in by medical providers, guards, and DOC vehicles. Work is considered a privilege, and so most inmates sit idle. We had to go to the Superintendent of the DOC to get our son placed in housing for vulnerable inmates; it was the only course to keep him from being murdered by the black gangs.

As for the "personal tablet..." He has one. It has no general internet connection--i.e., an inmate cannot access Google, etc. The inmates can use them to have video visits or make phone calls. That's it. It solves the problem of long lines at the phones that keep inmates from communicating with family.

CMOT Dibbler

That's right: this is a small volunteer endeavor, so there is no HR department--just four volunteers.

I don't think there is any conspiracy involved in our situation, just one person who difficult to get along with. Getting people to volunteer has always been a difficult proposition: I have been told by experienced people that you're doing well if you can get 5% of the available pool to volunteer. We have a potential pool of about 70 adults, and it has always been difficult to get more than four or five people willing to serve--and for the last six years it's been three.

I think WTP is correct that these sorts of positions tend to attract people with difficult personalities. I've already described the accountant. The president doesn't yell but she does tend to talk down to people and talk so much that it's hard to get a word in edgewise, possibly because she is a retired social worker who spent her life helping dysfunctional and low-intelligence people.

My ambition is to get us caught up on all the work that was neglected when a previous key member died suddenly, and to fully document everything that people will need to know: That will tremendously reduce the burden and make volunteering more attractive. [ Gazes in mirror. Sees Dudley Do-Right. ]
